Abstract

This research was conducted in the enclave of livestock production Fat-Tailed Sheep (DEG) in the district of East Lombok for the purposes to know the reproduction efficiency level of the DEG covering digits are Anestrus postpartum (APP), numbers service per conception (S/C), Service period (SP), days open (DO), Lambing Interval (LI) and body weight of the age at puberty. The location determination is done by purposive sampling based on the management system. Sampling livestock was done randomly as many as 30 DEG (15 tails at each location have been determined). Observations began from giving birth parent DEG until back pregnant. To determine differences in levels of reproductive efficiency of sheep tail fat at different management system the dates were analyzed using a t-test. The management system was a significant effect (P <0.05) to the reproductive efficiency of sheep tail fat. Parent DEG reared semi-intensively experiencing an estrus postpartum estrus, Days Open, and Lambing interval is longer than the parent DEG reared intensively.

Abstract

A research had been conducted in order to determine the Neutral Detergent Fiber (NDF) and Acid Detergent Fiber (ADF) of local forages given to 20 cattle raised in communal stalls/cages of “Batu Ngompal”, West Lombok Regency. Sampling was taken hierarchically. First, forage samples were collected from each feedbag containing 30-kg forages. Every bag was sampled 6-kg for determining their botanical composition. The total botanical sample bags were 120. The forage varieties identified from each bag were pooled and ranked to be 28 dominant kinds of forages. The second determination was conducted for analyzing the cell wall (ADF and NDF) contents from the total botanical composition of forages indentified. The results showed that the contents of NDF and ADF were 51.76 ± 15.18 % and 35.95 ± 10.38 %, respectively. The forages ADF contents were then converted to be energy in terms of net energy maintenance (NEm, Mcal/kg), net energy gain (NEg, Mcal/kg), and Total Digestible Nutrients (TDN, %) with the results of 0.59 Mcal/kg, 0.31 Mcal/kg, and 58.74 %, respectively.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the blood protein diversity first generation of Kedu chickens (G0)at Satuan Kerja Non Ruminansia Maron, Temanggung. The materials used in this study were each of 14 red andblack comb Kedu chickens. The methods of this study were observational and electrophoresis PAGE(Polyacrylamid Gel Electrophoresis). The observed parameters were loci of pre albumin (Palb), albumin (Alb),ceruloplasmin (Cp), transferrin (Tf), post transferrin (Ptf) and amylase-I (Amy-I). Gene structures were observedto characterize genetic diversity. Characterization of genetic diversity based on individual heterozygosity, meanheterozygosity and chi-square values for testing Hardy Weinberg equilibrium for each observed loci. The resultsshowed that red comb Kedu chickens had the highest gene frequencies of pre albumin, ceruloplasmin, transferrin, post transferrin and amylase-I those were 0,714; 0,714; 0,643; 0,643 and 0,536 respectively. The highestindividual heterozygosity of red comb Kedu chickens found in amylase-I (0,497) and also post transferrin (0,500),and amylase-I (0,500) for black comb Kedu chickens. The highest mean heterozygosity was found in black combKedu chickens (0,458). The chi-square calculation showed that the whole loci were at Hardy Weinbergequilibrium except pre albumin at red comb Kedu chickens.

Abstract

Growth Hormone Receptor (GHR) gene is a member of the super familycytokine/hematopoietin receptor. GHR plays a role in mediating the biological activity of growth hormone on target cells that lead to the affection of the nature ofgrowth in beef cattle carcasses and the nature of milk production in dairy cows. This study was designed to identify the genetic diversity of GHR genes exon 10 in Bali cattle. Genotype variation of gene candidates was identified using PCR-RFLP technique. The results showed that mutation at position of 755bp exon 10 of GHR gene as determined by Maskur (2012) can be identified using MBO II restriction enzymes at position of 125bp or at position of 282bp base nucleotidescaused by transition mutation of C/T and substitution of amino acid threonine to isoleucine.Genotype identification of GHR gene exon 10 resulted in three individual genotypes in Bali cattle population namely CC, TT and CT with frequency of 0.1931; 0.5455 and 0.2614respectively. The result of X² test and heterozygosity observationas well as heterozygosity expectation indicate that the genotypedistribution on Bali cattle population in this study were not in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium/ HWE). The value of GHR|MBO II gene Polymorphic Informative Content was 0.342051, might be used for genetic identifier, and was quite informative as gene identifier for linkage analysis in the population.

Abstract

The objective of this research was an evaluation of cholesterol total, triglyceride, HDL, and LDL concentration in blood of Arab chicken. Eighty (80) layer of Arab chicken were used to divided five treatment. Each treatment consisted of four replicates, so twenty experimental unit and each experimental unit consisted of four-layer Arab chicken. Doses of garlic capsules were 0 mg (control), 600 mg, 900 mg, 1200 mg, and 1500 mg. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance from CRD (Completely Randomized Design). When the difference exists among treatment, data obtained were further analyzed using Orthogonal Polynomial Contrast. The result of research showed that garlic (Allium sativum L.) capsules concentrations of blood Arab chicken, without significant effect on cholesterol total and LDL. 150 mg garlic capsules increased (P ≤ 0.01) 3.25 mg/dl HDL, and 33.0 mg/dl triglyceride concentrations of blood. Regression of HDL and triglyceride concentrations of blood was Y = 233.929 - 0.107 X, it means that increased 1 mg/dl HDL decreased 0.107 mg/dl triglyceride concentrations blood of Arab chicken.

Abstract

The optimum level of using Ionophore-polyether (Salinomycin) to promote Bali cattle growth has been investigated by treating dietary containing 0; 50; 100; and 150 mg Salinomycin to 40 heads of uniformly Bali cattle. Variables measured were feed consumption, growth rate, and fattening efficiency. Data were analysed by using Analysis of Variance and further test by using Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test. The optimum level of using Ionophore-polyether (Salinomycin) was determined by a treatement showing the highest fattening efficiency values. Results of the experiment showed that adding Salinomycin in diet for male Bali cattle fattening promote 19,2% daily gain. Adding the Salinomycin in basal diet which consisted of 83,0% natural grasses and 13,0% rice bran, were “optimum” at the level of 100,0 mg/head/day on both growth rate and fattening efficiency of male Bali cattle.

Abstract

Growth traits represent mirroring of individual availability to present genetic potency and growth on parts of the body. Observation on growth rate was based on the changes in body weight (BW) by adding ages from birth (1 day of age) to maturity age (>1261 days) periods from 142 animals (98 males and 44 females). Information of the ages was obtained based on herd records from 2010 - 2013. Two growth curve models consisted of Richard and Weibull models were used in this study based on CurveExpert 1.4 computer program. Research results showed that both models have a similar coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.99 ), but the lowest standard error (SE) value reached in Richard model (2.45). The optimum growth rate was reached until the age of 18 months (Richard) and 20 months (Weibull) with an optimum weight of about 135 kg for both models. As a result, selection based on weight at 18 months (550 days) of age was important for selecting the best bull and heifer.

Abstract

In the experiment reported in this paper, fresh cocoa pod husk was ensiled in a concrete silo with or without starter for 9 days in the Faculty of Animal Science, Mataram University. Three experimental treatments were tested in three replications which include fresh cocoa pod husk ensiled with 1. 5% rice bran, 0.5% fertilizer grade urea, with no starter added (T1), as for T1 but with addition of cows strained rumen fluid (T2) and as for T!, but with added commercial starter bioplus (T3). The treatment process was done in three periods of 9 days each and samples were taken three times accordingly for proximate analyses including dry matter, ash, ether extract, crude protein, crude fibre, and nitrogen free extract contents of the resulting silages. The experiment was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design and aimed at supplying direct feed requirements for a feeding trial using cattle which was lasted for 6 weeks. The result showed that no significant difference could be detected in the nutritional values among the ensiled products in term of total ash, ether extract, crude fibers, crude protein, NDF/ADF contents as well as organic matter digestibility. Dry matter digestibility of T3 was significantly higher (p<0.05) than T1, but did not significantly differ from T2. Moreover, T2 was not also significantly different from T1. Although P3 had the highest dry matter digestibility compared to the other treatments, no significant improvement in the voluntary feed intake, live body weight change and feed conversion efficiency has been observed in a feeding trial with young Bali cattle (approximately BW 200 kg) fed these three ensiled products supplemented with 1% BW of commercial concentrate feed given fresh aerial parts of corn stover.
