Abstract

The study aims to determine the nutrient composition, digestibility dry matter and organic matter fermented rice straw in combination with calcium carbonate, Bacillus sp., and coconut water at different times. Rice straw obtained around the city of Mataram and then was cut into pieces with 3-4 cm in size. Four treatments were applied : PI was 300 g rice straw added with a 3% solution of Bacillus sp. and 7% calcium oxide with no fermentation. Treatments 2 to 4 was similar to the first treatment but fermentation applied were for 14, 21 or 28 days respectively. The variables in the study were observed physical properties, chemical composition (dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fibre and lignin ) and digestibility of dry matter and organic matter of rice straw. The data obtained were analyzed using a completely randomized design with SAS statistical program package. The results showed that the fermentation time can increase the nutrient composition organic matter, crude protein, digestibility of dry matter and organic matter and decreased crude fiber (neutral detergent fibre, acid detergent fibre, hemisellulosa, cellulose and lignin) of rice straw fermented with a combination of calcium oxide, Bacillus sp, and coconut water.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the differences ofestrous response, service per conception (S/C), nonreturn rate (NRR),and conceptionrate (CR) between Bali cattle heifersandcowssynchronized using intra-vaginalprogesterone hormone. Two groups of Bali cattle, 15 heifers and 15 cows, were used to examine the responsedifferences of estrous synchronization using progesterone hormone on reproductive performance, betweendifferent parity. Each group was given progesterone dose of 1 mg/kg body weight. The data observed wereestrousbehavior (estrousintensity, onset of estrous, estrous percentage), and value of S/C, NRR, and CR wereanalyzed by statistical analysis (t-test). The result shows the estrous intensity was significantly different (P<0.05)between the heifers and cows. The average estrousintensity score of the heifer was 2.87±0.35, while the cows was2.27±0.45. There was significantly different (P <0.05) in onset of estrous in the cows 41.5±5.18 hours, while inthe heifers was 50.67±3.5 hours. The estrouspercentage of the heifers and cows was the same, both of them was100%. There was no significant difference (P>0.05) in S/Cvalue showed by the heifers (1,31±0,45)and the cows(1,50±0,50). The average value of NRR, for heifers and cowswas 86.67% and 80.00%, respectively. The averagevalue of CRfor heifers and cowswas 86.67% and 80.00%, respectively.

Abstract

The effect of fermentation duration at improving the quality of ammoniation rice straw with Bacillus sp.probiotic was conducted from July to August 2012. This work was arranged in Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and two replications. The treatments were fermented with 3% Bacillus sp for 0, 10, 20, and 30 days imposed to rice straw with ammoniation.Variables observed were crude protein, crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose and in vitro digestibility. The result of this study showed that duration of fermentation influenced significantly (P<0,05) on chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. In conclusion, the duration of fermentation influenced on chemical composition and in vitro digestibility. The longer the fermentation duration the higher the content of crude protein and in vitro digestibility. Meanwhile, the proportion of crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin decreased respectively.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate Bali cattle pre-weaning calf death in Central Lombok. Sick calves were examined their condition, followed by physiology examination. Then feces and blood samples were collected and examined for internal parasites and hematology. The results showed that the newborn calf was 57,2% (61), while calves sick was 16.5% (101) consisted of 7,2% (57) death calves and 9,3% still alive. Calves examination showed that 21, 05 % (12) was under weak conditions, 38.5% (22) with high temperature, 73, 5% (42) calves were found diarrhea. This diarrhea calves consisted of 50,8% (29) diarrhea, 3, 5% (2) diarrhea with blood stain, and 19, 2% (11) diarrhea with high temperature. The results of coproscopy showed that 14.03% (8) calves diarrhea were infected with parasites, such as protozoa (Eimeria sp), liver fluke (Fasciola sp) and gastro intestine worm (Trichuris sp, Trichostrongilus sp, and Bunostonum sp). Following evaluation of hematocrit, it was found that 33.3% (19) calves higher while 3.50% (2) lower. Following examination of Red Blood Cell, it was found that 98.2% (56) calves showed anemia hypochromic, 28.07% (16) showed anemia microcytic, 15,7% (9) macrocytic anemia, 5.2% (3) anemia hypochromic, 3.5% (2 calves) showed erythropenia. Leucocytes examinations showed that 35.08% (20 calves) showed by lymphocytosis, 7.01% (4 calves) leucocytosis, 1.75% (1 calf) leucopenia and 1.75% (1 calf) lymphocytopenia. It can be concluded that from the ill calves in the middle of the rainy season showed diarrhea with protozoa, liver fluke, and worms infestations. Hematology examination the sick calves indicated that there were anemia, lymphocytosis, dehydration, low content of blood corpuscular. Finally, the sick calves may be infected with parasites, protozoa’s, bacteria’s and viruses.

Abstract

An experiment with aim to study the effect of probiotics combination level and length of fermentation on qualityimprovement of rice straw had been conducted at the Laboratory of Nutrition and Feed of Animal HusbandryFaculty, Mataram University. The research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design in factorialarrangement 3 x 3 with 3 replications. The first factor was the level of probiotics (0, 2 and 4%), the second factorwas the period of fermentation (2, 4 and 6 weeks).The variables measured were crude protein, crude fiber, NDF,ADF, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and in vitro digestibility of dry matter and organic matter. Data wereanalyzed by analysis of variance and tested further by Duncan's Multiple Range Test. The result show thattreatments combination of the probiotics level and fermentation period did not affect (P>0.05) the chemicalcomposition and digestibility. The level of probiotics increased (P<0.05) the crude protein and in vitro dry matterdigestibility. Meanwhile, the lenght of fermentation increased the crude protein and in vitro digestibility of drymatter and organic matter, but decreased the crude fiber, NDF, ADF, cellulose, and hemicellulose of Amofer ricestraw.

Abstract

This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Cut and Work Livestock Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Mataram the aim was to determine the production potential of fat-tailed sheep (DEG) which includes cutting weights, carcass weight, the proportion of meat, bones, and carcass fat and carcass commercial cuts. Ten (10) sheep fat tail which consists of five adult males and five adult females used as samples. Sampling was done randomly livestock enclave fat tail sheep production in Lombok. The study was designed using a completely randomized design direction. Data collected were analyzed descriptively using average and standard deviation and percentage values according to the data categories. To find out the effect of sex on production and physical composition of the carcass, it was analyzed using t-test. At the same slaughter weight the percentage of male and female DEG carcass was significantly different (P <0.05). Female fat tail sheep produced a higher percentage of proximal thigh carcass (P <0.05) than male DEG.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the importance of economic traits on Bali cattle in Mataram city. This research was analytical descriptive that was carried out by using the survey method on 39 respondents and direct measurement of shoulder height, body length and heart girth on 72 calves. The results showed that age at first calving was 32,81 ± 3,40 months, and calving interval was 11,10 ± 1,04 bulan. The percentage of calves born in population was 46,19%, natural increase accounted for 38,47 %, weaning age was 6,63 ± 0,55, service preconception showed the value of 2,11 ± 1,05, sex ratio was 52,78 for male and 47,22 for female, first estrus was 19,29 ± 2,41 months. The estimate number of supply was 12,11% for heifer and 12,11% for bullock.

Abstract

The use of probiotics is increasingly popular as an alternative replacement to antibiotic uses in stimulating healthand growth of broiler chickens. The use of antibiotics may disturb the balance of the gut microbiota and play asignificant role in the emerging of antibiotic resistance pathogens. Thus, the objective of this study was to isolateand screen lactic acid bacteria (LAB) from the intestine of broiler chickens as probiotic candidates. LAB wereinitially screened by phenotypic assay. Furthermore, those strains which belonged to LAB were screened forinhibitory activity against E. coli. Results showed that a total of 4 isolates were considered as members of lacticacid bacteria indicating by the results of phenotypic assays: gram positive, catalase and oxidase negative, and ableto perform carbohydrate fermentation. Out of the 4 isolates, only one isolate showed an inhibitory activity againstthe targeted pathogen. Further research is still needed to confirm the potential strain for probiotic in poultry.

Abstract

A study on the performance of sheep production has been carried out in the enclave production of fat-tailed sheep (DEG) in East Lombok. The purpose of this study was to determine the production potential of fat-tailed sheep, which have been reared traditionally. The method that employed throughout the study was a survey related method. The locations of the study were decided according to the purposive sampling techniques based on the population density of DEG. Samples were collected randomly; as many as 20 individuals, 10 males and 10 females, each as a representative of any age group, which had previously been determined. The variables observed were the birth weight, weaning weight and adult weight as well as statistical measurements of the vital body, i.e. the body length and the chest circumference. Data on the performance of the production were analyzed and tested statistically using t-test. These studies suggest that gender affect significantly (P <0.05) for the body weight and the vital body measurements. The rams had higher body weight than the ewes. Furthermore, the linear body size of fat tailed-rams was larger than those of the fat-tailed ewes.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to evaluate rooster semen preserved using Tris Citrate Egg Yolk-Citrate (TEYC) extender with the addition of Tin fruit and guava filtrate. Semen was collected by using plastic collector placed on cloaca, by using hen as a teaser when rooster mated hen consequently semen would remain in the plastic collector. Fresh semen was evaluated by evaluating volume, smell, color and spermatozoa concentration. Then semen was split into 7 fractions as treatment 1, 2 and 3 were extended 10 times using TEYC with 20%, 25% and 30% egg yolk. Then treatment 4 and 5 were extended using TEYC contain 20% egg yolk with 5 % and 10% guava filtrate. Treatments 6 and 7, were extended using TECY contain 20% egg yolk with Tin fruit filtrate of 5 and 10%. Then preserved and progressive motility was evaluated at 0, 12, 24 and 36 hours following chilling under 4°C. Results showed that ejaculate volume was 0.38 ± 0.14 ml, specific smell, milky white color with concentrations of 511.00 ± 90.07 x 107 sperms/ml. The results of progressive motility evaluation of 0, 12, 24 and 36 hours following chilling treatments 1 to 7 were not significantly different (P> 0,05). Percentage motility of chilling 0 hours and 36 hours of treatments 1 to 7, were from 86.50 ±4.72% to 48.83 ±5.15%, from 83.83 ±7.41% to 47.83 ±7.44%, from 88.67 ±1.86% to 49.33 ±9.35%, from 83.00 ±4.69 % to 43.50 ±7.77%, from 82.67 ± 6.06%, to 46.33 ±5.75%, from 83.83 ±7.41% to 47.83 ±7.44%, from 88.67 ±1.86% to 49.33 ±9.35% respectively and the average decreasing progressive motility up to 36 hours was 37.74 ± 1.64 %. Finally, it can be concluded that addition egg yolk, guava, and Tin fruit filtrate do not influence the progressive motility of local rooster spermatozoa.
