Abstract

TThis research aims to investigate the production of horror contents in the INSENTIF podcast channel by Tirto.id, an Indonesian online news media. When journalistic media are involved in the production of ghost stories and mystery, it raises concerns about journalistic basic principles of providing verified information. To understand this phenomenon, we conducted a qualitative case study and interviewed three key informants from the INSENTIF production team. Using Giddens’ structuration theory as an analysis framework, we identify that the INSENTIF production crews still perceive their routine as part of journalistic works. In writing the script, they strive to rely on credible sources and actualise the discipline of verification although they admit that they insert some fictional horrific scenarios at the beginning of each episode as well. Thus, they mention a disclaimer, explaining that their journalism practice, specifically on horror episodes, is not the same as the regular Tirto.id’s standard journalism. This research argues that the agents, in this case, seem to follow and reproduce the existing structure, rather than resist it.

Abstract

The first case of Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants on 9 June 2022 confirmed by the Government has propelled a news explosion. This article examines what discourses constructed by public communicators who addressed this case, as reported by the online media, and who are they? We analyze online news related to this issue published in between 9 and 16 June 2022 using the discourse network analysis. We found 15 categories of discourse related to this case advocated by five types of public communicators. They consist of 25 types of specific actors. While some of them advocated types of discourses identified by Ali and Eriyanto (2020), most of them formulated new discourses when they addressed this case. Our research also revealed that public communicators that represent the Government do not have a single discourse when they managed this case. This hints that the Government lacked an integrated public communication strategy in handling this case

Abstract

This study examines the topic of environmental sustainability, which is currently emphasized by governments and organizations. How do organizations, in particular, utilize the term "green" to designate their products and services? A green label plays a crucial role in establishing a favorable reputation for an organization, allowing it to be identified as a promoter of environmental sustainability. This study explores the utilization of the green concept on Twitter deeper. Utilizing the Netlytic program, tweets containing the terms "green" or "environmental" are submitted to a content analysis. This study shows, using collected data, that Twitter is utilized as a "technology weapon" to promote the organization's image. By accommodating digital traces by users on Twitter, researchers see a "digital space" formed to be utilized as a space for organizations to produce content based on environmental communication. This information has consequences for the green labeling of an organization and enables the enhancement of a good image that adds value to the organization's reputation to establish itself as a pro-environmental organization. Important findings from this study suggest that Twitter could be utilized by organizations to improve their status on the map as a green organization.

Abstract

Broadcasting in Indonesia experienced significant progress by technology migration (analog switch-off/ ASO). Unfortunately, the announced migration does not apply to radio broadcasting technology. The broadcast radio ecosystem before ASO experienced a decline, coupled with the exclusion of radio from major broadcasting decisions. This research used an interpretive paradigm and a case study approach on private broadcasting radio ecosystem in Pekanbaru. It was carried out using convergent mixed research methods and the theory of media ecology and actor-network theory and involved 204 listeners as informants who were approached by road surveys. Furthermore, this study involved the person in charge of the media and the media supervisor, who was found to be using a purposive method. The study’s findings: (1) broadcast media (radio) represented through social media connectivity is a new ecosystem found in the element of broadcast radio proximity; (2) relationships through broadcasting technology are a solution in innovation as a convergence effort (broadcast-broadband) as a new broadcasting forum for private radio broadcasts, so to maintain the sustainability of the broadcasting (radio) ecosystem, technological and regulatory connectivity is needed in preparing a new forum for the broadcasting industry, especially radio broadcasting.
