Abstract

Wood deterioration were generally occured by the activities of biological agents. Fungal can attack wood and lignoselullosic substances and cause staining and decaying. Its damage levels were vary depending on the attacking fungal species. Eventhough it poses some disadvantages, actually fungy have potential benefits for human life such as nutrient, energy resources, medicine, etc. Fungy from the Hasanuddin University Experimental Forest were collected, isolated, and identified in this study. Identification was conducted throughout their macroscopic and microscopic characteristics. The result showed that the amount of fungal species were fourteen species, i.e: Trichoderma sp., Phymatotrichum sp., Pycnoporus cinnabarinus, Pleurotus sp., Verticillium sp., Schizophyllum sp., Clavariadelphus truncates, Beuveria sp, Dendryphion sp., Penicillium sp., Amanita junguilea (jamur kikik), Auricularia auricularis (jamur kuping pimir), Amanita fuliginea Hongo, and Fusarium sp. Abstract

This research aimed to determine the role of rice husk ash as pozzolanic material in reducing porosity of lightweight rice husk-conblock. Rice husk ash was obtained by burning rice husk conventionally in kiln drum and subsequently followed by burning in furnace of 1400 Barnsted Thermolyne Type at temperature 600 oC for 2 hours. Sample test preparation and procedure of porosity was adopted from ASTM C 140. Rice husk ash significantly reduced the porosity at all treatment combinations of rice husk ash percentage, but the lower porosity (31 %) obtained by using rice husk ash of 20 %. Abstract

The study aims to determine the distinguishing plant species within a plant community forest in the karst area of Maros-Pangkep. Plots of 20 meters by 20 meters were purposively established on 40 different locations representing proportionally facies of massif, porous, leyered and metamorphosed carbonate rocks. Tree dimensions in terms of height and diameter of trees in every plot were measured. The data were examinated through table method and principal component analysis (PCA). The study indicated that the distiguishing plant species determined by table method, only could diffrenciate between the group of communities over massif, porous rock facies and the group of communities over layered, metamorphosed rock facies. Whereas, determining plant species characteristic by PCA method gave sharper interpretation about the distiguishing plant species of plant communities among massif, porous, layered and matamorphosed rock facies. Abstract

The aim of this research is to study morphmetric variation of external anatomy of subterranean termite (Coptotermes sp.). The samples were collected from two different nests, i.e. Laboratory of Forest Product Engineering and Diversification, Hasanuddin University (site A) and Kompleks Perumahan Dosen Unhas, Tamalanrea (site B). Resulted data were statistically analyzed for mean, standard deviation, standard error and coefficient of variability. The mean values of the different population samples were compared by using student‘t’ test according to SPSS Ver.12. For each individual soldier and worker, 54 variables of external characters were measured. The result showed that some external characters of soldier and worker casts were significantly different with different locations. In soldier casts, eleven of 54 variables were found to be significant different in length and width of caput, length and width metathorax, mesothorax length, length and width of abdomens, scape length, flagellum width, femur width, and width tibia. Whilst, in worker casts, 11 of 54 variables were found to be significant different in mesothorax length, scape length, flagellum width, trochanter width, tibia length, tarsus length, and claw width. However, morph metric of external characters of Coptotermes sp. at two locations was generally relative same in terms of coefficient of variability. Key words: Morphometric analysis, Coptotermes sp.

Abstract

Sambueja Village is one of the villages in Maros Regency which has a karst area that must be protected in total because its function as a water storage and has a variety of ecotourism potential that can be developed and can support the development of ecotourism activities. The role and participation of the community in ecotourism is an important thing that distinguishes it from other forms of tourism. Because perception is a fundamental element that needs to be known before planning activities that will involve the local community. This study aims to determine the public perception of the karst ecotourism development plan in Sambueja Village, Simbang District, Maros Regency. The results of the study can be seen that the perception of the people of Sambueja Village is a positive perception of the karst ecotourism development plan. The majority of the community stated that they did not object if the village of Sambueja was built and developed as an ecotourism village, but it requires that its development and development must refer to the concept of tourism which takes into account the preservation of environmental functions, ecological potential and maintaining cultural values in the local communityKey words: Sosial Perception; Karst Ecotourism

Abstract

Key words: wild meat, wildlife trade, wildlife tourism, north sulawesi References

Abstract

This study aims to determine the activity of the utilization of forest resources and to know local community wisdom related to protection forest in the Alu Village areas. This research was conducted by using Rapid Rural Appraisal (RRA) method. Respondents in this study were communities living in and around the protection forest area and conducting activities in the forms of utilizing the forest resources. The observed variables were the forms of community activities in the protection forest and local community wisdom in using the forest resources. The results show that activities of villagers consist of: 1) the use of timber for home construction or repair and for fuel wood, 2) the utilization of rattan, 3) the utilization of bamboo, 4) the utilization of palm, 5) the utilization of honey bee and other forest products. In addition, local community wisdom in the utilization of forest products was found to be in the form of prevailing institutions in the village of Alu. The forms of institutions are forest harvesting institutions, forest land use institutions, and forest protection and security institutions. In general, Alu Villagers have the awareness to preserve the environment, ecological balance and sustainability of the population to be bequeathed to their generation. Yet, the wisdom is prone to turn down particularly in the institution of timber utilization. Key words: Forest resource utilization, protected forest, local wisdom, Alu Villagers
