Abstract

The unbalanced eating behavior of school-age children is influenced by the level of nutritional knowledge. The purpose of this research is to analyze the comparison of media education with videos and pop-up books on the knowledge of balanced nutrition guidelines for elementary school students. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group design. The total sample used in the study was 90 students who were taken by probability sampling and then divided into two groups, 45 students were given education with video media (P1) and 45 students were educated with pop-up book media (P2). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney test with a significant level of 0.05. The results obtained are that there is a difference in the level of knowledge of the pop-up book group before and after education (p=0.0001) and there is no difference in the level of knowledge of the video group before and after education (p=1.00). Pop-up book media is more effective in increasing students' knowledge level of balanced nutrition compared to video, so pop-up book media can be an alternative media used to provide education to elementary school students.

Abstract

Learning achievement of early childhood indicates how much a child can fulfill his developmental assignment according to the child's age stage. Therefore, a child's learning achievement must be maximized so that this golden age does not pass unnoticed. Various factors influence a child's level of achievement, one of which is the self-concept. Field data indicate that some behaviors indicate a negative self-concept. On the other side, a child's learning level has not been evenly distributed. This study aims to know: 1) profile of self-concept of aged 5-6 years old children; 2) Profile of learning achievement of 5-6 years old children; and 3) the effect of self-concept on the learning achievement of 5-6 years old children in RA Perwanida Bendunganjati Pacet. This study used the correlational quantitative research method. The population in this study was 5-6 years old children at RA Perwanida Bendunganjati with 23 children sample specified by purposive sampling technique. The results showed an effect of self-concept on the learning achievement of 5-6 years old children in RA Perwanida Bendunganjati Pacet positively and significantly. This can be seen from the result of a simple linear regression equation that amounted to Y = 190,631 + 1.376X. The positive validity regression coefficient showed its positive direction of the variable effects X to Y, meaning the higher the value of the variable X, it will be higher the value of the Y variable. The percentage of the effects of self-concept on learning achievement is 36.2%.

Abstract

This study aims to design and develop an Islamic Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) Activity Storybook prototype, which is a storybook with STEAM learning activity content in it, and there is an integration between the concept of science and Islamic content. The Design Research with the Plomp Model went through the preliminary investigation, design, and construction phases. The preliminary investigation results showed that Kindergarten teachers did not understand the essential elements in the implementation of STEAM learning and still did not have adequate references and media for STEAM learning implementation. In the design phase, principles in developing the Islamic STEAM Activity Storybook for Early Childhood and criteria for STEM/STEAM learning-based storybooks were formulated before entering the construction phase. The storyboard is developed to determine the narrative, activity sheet, context, or description of the image on the specified book page in the construction phase. The whole process was put forward as a reference for developing the Islamic STEAM Activity Storybook for Early Childhood on other STEAM learning content. The results of this study can help teachers and parents to plan and implement STEAM learning with Islamic content for early childhood.
