Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengeksplorasi kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menulis yang akan diteliti melalui dimensi writing dan eror yang banyak dihadapi oleh mahasiswa dalam mata kuliah Essay Writing. Penelitian deskriptif dengan desain explanatory digunakan sebagai metode dalam penelitian ini untuk menginvestigasi kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menulis yang akan dianalisis dari nilai menulis dan konstruksi kalimat di dalam esai sebab-akibat. Secara purposive, sebanyak 25 mahasiswa semester empat yang mengikuti mata kuliah Essay Writing menjadi subjek dari penelitian ini. Tes Menulis Esai (EWT) digunakan untuk memperoleh data tulisan mahasiswa. Hasil dari pengumpulan data berbentuk nilai menulis mahasiswa yang dibandingkan dari lima dimensi mahasiswa yaitu (isi, organisasi, struktur bahasa, kosakata, dan aturan bahasa tertulis) and analisis eror pada level kata dan kalimat. Eror yang sudah dianalisa kemudian diklasifikasi berdasarkan tipe error. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dimensi menulis mahasiswa berada pada poin 2-3 berdasarkan rubrik penilaian yang berarti bahwa mahasiswa masih berada pada tingkat penulis dasar dan bawah dasar. Selain itu, eror yang banyak ditemukan dalam esai meliputi penulisan huruf kapital, tanda baca, kalimat tanpa subjek atau predikat, ejaan, persetujuan subjek-predikat, kalimat tidak efektif karena penerjemahan langsung dari Bahasa Indonesia, pemilihan kata, kata benda, kata depan, predikat, kata sifat, artikel, susunan kata, kalimat pasif, dan kepemilikan (‘s). Hasil dari penelitian ini bisa menjadi data dasar bagi guru/dosen untuk mengetahui kesulitan-kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menulis secara menyeluruh dari dimensi menulis dan tipe-tipe eror dan selanjutnya untuk membantu mahasiswa menulis lebih baik. Kata kunci: kesulitan menulis, dimensi menulis, analisis error, menulis esai

Abstract

Intelligence is a god-gifted to everyone. Intellligence doesn’t mean that you are smart and expert in Science, Mathemathics or English. We have to build this paradigm to our students as the candidate of teachers because the intelligence cannot be measured by those kinds of achievement. To cultivate it, we have to give practical examples in teaching-learning processes by their own creativity and innovation which is in line with the intelligence of the teachers candidate.Keywords :students’ intelligence, media, teaching and learning interaction

Abstract

The present paper reviews some recent approaches which meet to the needs and the characteristics of second and foreign language learners in learning writing. Unlike teaching writing in first language context, teaching writing in second and foreign language context is more challenging and sometime faces more complicated problems. Therefore, teacher needs to use appropriate approach to overcome problem in his/her teaching. There are two different approaches presented in this paper: genre-based approach and lexical approach. Genre-based approach is considered effective due to its linguistic structure which provides learners with a clear idea of what language features should be expressed and how the content should be organized. On the other hand, language classroom which is organized by using lexical principles give the learners awareness to ‘chunk’ to form appropriate expression fluently and effortlessly. In conclusion, teaching writing to second and foreign language learners can’t only apply a single approach, method, or technique. Abstract

This present study was aimed at investigating how to increase listening skill using English songs, and how to motivate the student in learning listening. The background of this study was commenced by the important framework concept in using English songs in the interaction process of communication in the classroom. The research used classroom action research. The respondent consists of20 students at the eighth grade of SMP Achmad Yani Puger in the academic year of 2016-2017. In the data gathering process, the researcher used listening cloze test administered in both cycle I and cycle II.The data analysis  of listening ability using English songs using description score, and statistics to see the average of the students score after the first observation have been done, the students score 81,35. It can be concluded that listening teaching process through English songs can increase the students’ listening ability. Key words: students’ listening ability, English songs

Abstract

Studying Pronunciation was boring with similar ways given to students. Whatsapp as a kind of technology well-known by students are believed to gain the creative and interesting learning process in pronunciation class. This research method is a CAR, conducted in two cycles. Cycle one was fail because of the large group design was not effective to gain students’ enthusiasm and improve their ability. Cycle two was successful because the students could reach the criteria of success, and gained the students’ enthusiasm. In short, Whatsapp features can improve students’ ability in pronunciation class and gain their enthusiasm in studying pronunciation. Keywords : Whatsapp, Improve, Pronunciation

Abstract

This study is aimed at (1) generating the all possible deep structure and (2) describing what type of transformation applied to the selected newspaper headlines. This is a qualitative research since it involves analyzing and interpreting the selected newspaper headlines. The analysis in this study is thus interpretive rather than statistical. Purposive sampling is used in this study since the selected newspaper headlines published by ‘The Jakarta Post’ in the period of May 4 – July 1, 2013 are suited to the intent of the study. The findings show deletion transformation is frequently applied to them. Every single headline contains of words deletion making them ungrammatical. The headline writer applies this type of transformational process in order to attract the readers’ attention so that they are curious to know the contents of the whole story. To conclude, applying TGG analysis can provide an adequate explanation about how the deep structures of the selected newspaper headlines are generated into their surface structure. Abstract

The purpose of the research is to know the improvement of students’ activity and student mathematic learning outcomes by using PBL model. The type of the research is classroom action research with qualiitative approach. The subjects of this research are the seventh grade students of MTs Ainul Yaqin. The subjects were observed to know activity and were given the test to know mathematic learning outcomes. The data collecting methods are documentation, observation, interview, and test. The results of the research in individual activity significantly improved from 50 % in cycle I until 76% in cycle II, then for group activity improved from 48% in cycle I until 72% in cycle II. Besides, the students learning outcomes improved from 85.29 % in cycle I with 5 from 34 students that did not pass until 88.24% in cycle II with 4 from 34 students that did not pass. The conclusions are PBL model could improve students’ activity and learning outcomes on Arithmetic Social Material. The suggestion is PBL can be an alternative model to teach mathematic, it is because this model give positive effect to students.  Key Words: PBL, mathematic learning outcomes

Abstract

Problems that happened in English teaching learning activities not only faced by the students, but also by the teacher. For example, most of the students have difficulties in mastering vocabulary. While the teacher has lack of creativities in conducting the teaching instruments, which is challenging for the students, so they do not only depend on the text book and or the worksheets. Authentic text is created to fulfill some social purposes in language community in which the authentic text has been made. The use of authentic text in the written or spoken language could bridge the gap between the students’ problems during the teaching learning activities at the class, and their capacity in practicing their skills in the real life. Key words: authentic material, vocabulary teaching.

Abstract

This research aimed at applying teaching spoken descriptive text using guessing games in eight grade students of SMP Al Falah Deltasari Sidoarjo. It described how to teach spoken descriptive text using guessing games and reported the improvement of students’ speaking ability on learning process and test score. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) had 8-4 class students as subject of the research. The researcher worked together with two collaborators to collect the data using observation sheet, video recording, field-note and questionnaires. The research gained quantitative data; students’ score on spoken descriptive text presentation and qualitative one; description on teacher and students’ activities in teaching learning process and students’ reflection on the use of games in their class. The research finally found that the use of guessing game in the class improved students speaking activities, reduced stress, increased self-confidence; as students were eager to speak up, and gave more chance to every student on practicing speaking. The use of games also motivated students to improve their vocabularies. Students were excited and enjoyed the class. The improvement on students speaking ability was also found in spoken descriptive text scores. It was significant in performance area of content, grammar and vocabulary. The researchers, however, did not concern on the improvement on pronunciation performance area. It was, therefore, suggested to be observed by other researchers. Abstract

The purpose of this research is to know the difference between students’ mathematic learning outcomes in junior high scholl between extrovert and introvert personality in mathematic linear equation material. The type of the research is experimental research with quantitative approach. The subject of this research is the eight grade students in junior high school who have extrovert and introvert personality. The data collecting methods are documentation and questionnaire. The results of the research are the value of t test = 5.082 and t table = 2.045 it’s mean that t tes > t table so Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Based on the data findings, it can be concluded that there is different of students’ mathematic learning outcomes in junior hight school between extrovert and introvert personality in the materials of mathematic linear equation system. The suggestion is that the teacher must be a motivator for students, and always care about the different personality of his/her students in order to find the best method or learning model that is comfortable to assist themto get good mathematic learning outcomes.Key Words: mathematic learning outcomes, extrovert and introvert personality
