Abstract

Plaque accumulation on removable denture mayinduce Denture Stomatitis (DS). Candida albicans is the main microorganism that causes DS. To prevent DS, dentures need to be cleaned. The simplest denture cleaning method is immersion using chemicals. Papaya leaf (Carica papaya) contain antifungi substance, could be used as denture cleanser. The aim of this study wasto prove the effectivity of papaya leaf extract todecreasing the number of Candida albicans colonies on acrylic resin plates and thermoplastic nylon. This study was pretest-posttest with control group design, 32 samples (16 acrylic resin plates, 16 thermoplastic nylon plates) were divided into 4 groups: immersion using aquadest, fittydent®, papaya leaf extract 10% and 40%. Paired T-test showed the means of Candida albicans number on acrylic resin plates after immersion of aquadest, fittydent®, papaya leaf extract 10% and 40% were 0.75+2.98 CFU/ml, 82.5+1.29, 53.5+3.31 CFU/ml, 81.5+2.38 CFU/ml. The means of Candida albicans number on thermoplastic nylon after immersion of aquadest, fittydent®, papaya leaf extract 10% and 40% were 0.5+1.73 CFU/ml, 82.25+2.21 CFU/ml, 70.25+3.3 CFU/ml, 80.50+3.69 CFU/ml. Oneway ANOVA test showed no significant differences number of Candida albicans colonies (p >0.05) after immersion using fittydent® and papaya leaf extract 40% on both plates (100% Candida albicans cells died after immersion). The decrease percentage shown in the immersion of papaya leaf extract 10% group (66.67% on acrylic resin plates and 87.8% on thermoplastic nylon). This study concluded that papaya leaf extract was effective in decreasing the number of Candida albicans colonies on acrylic resin plates and thermoplastic nylon.

Abstract

Nanofiller composite resin restoration has a major problem, namely color changes. Polishing are factors that determine color change and if added to using mouthwash for a long time can cause more significant color changes. The 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash is a mouthwash that is often used in the community because it has low toxicity. However, using the chlorhexidine gluconate 0.2% mouthwash in the long term can cause discoloration in the composite resin. The purpose of this study was to determine the difference between discoloration of polished and unpolished nanofiller composite resin on the soaking of 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash. The method used in this study is purely experimental research with a pretest and post test with control group design, using 24 samples of premolar teeth prepared with class II cavity design and then filled with nanofiller composite resin. The samples were then divided into 4 treatment groups, namely polished, non-polished nanofiller composite resin, 0.2% chlorhexidine gluconate mouthwash and distilled water. Soaking was carried out 24 hours a day for 5 days in an incubator at 37ºC. Changes in the color of each group were measured using Shade Guide Vita Classical. The hypothesis testing of this research was carried out by descriptive analysis which was then tested by the Shapiro-Wilk test for its normality test and Leven's test to test its homogeneity with a significance value of 0.05. Mann-Whitney test for different tests. Based on the results of this study, it was found that the discoloration of the polished nanofiller composite resin was smaller than that which was not polished on the soaking of chlorhexidine mouthwash 0.2%

Abstract

The color of acrylic resin plate is one of particular concern, because it's related with aesthetics of oral tissue. An acrylic resin can absorb colored fluids and cause a color change, which reduces the aesthetic value of the denture. This study aims to determine discoloration of acrylic resin plate heat cured after submersion of rosella flower extract. This study used 25 samples, divided into 5 samples for 20% rosella flower extract, 5 samples for 40% rosella flower extract, 5 samples for 60% rosella flower extract, 5 samples negative control (aquades) and 5 samples positive control (fifftydent). Soaking time is 10 minutes per day for a week. The type of research used was experimental pretest-posttest with control group design. Measurements using Adobe Photoshop and the CIELab color measurement system. Furthermore, statistically using the Shapiro wilk test, Leven's test, One Way Anova and Least Significant Diffence. The results of the study are shows the mean color change of CIELab (DE) in the five groups after treatment significantly different (p <0.05). Least Significant Difference - test (LSD) test shows the results of immersion test on extract 20% and 40% are not different from negative controls, extract 60% is different from negative controls, extract 60% is same like positive control. The conclusions in this study are concentration of immersion with rosella flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) extract 20% and 40% can't change the color of the acrylic resin plate heat cured, however extract rosella flowers (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.) 60% can change the color of acrylic resin plate heat cured.

Abstract

Cleft lip and cleft palate (orofacial cleft) are facial and oral malformations that occur very early in pregnancy. A cleft lip and cleft palate, known technically as an orofacial cleft, is actually a group of various conditions that involve a ‘cleft” on the patient’s face. Clefting results when there is not enough tissue in the mouth or lip area, and the tissue that is available does not join together properly. Cleft lip and cleft palate can occur on one or both sides of the mouth. Because the lip and the palate develop separately, it is possible to have a cleft lip without a cleft palate, a cleft palate without a cleft lip, or both together. Children with a cleft lip with or without a cleft palate or a cleft palate alone often have problems with feeding and speaking clearly and can have ear infections. They also might have hearing problems and problems with their teeth. Cleft lip with or without cleft palate, can be diagnosed during pregnancy by a routine ultrasound. They can also be diagnosed after the baby is born, especially cleft palate. Treatment with orofacial clefts can vary depending on the severity of the cleft; the child’s age and needs; and the presence of associated syndromes or other birth defects, or both.

Abstract

Root canal treatment is a step in order to maintain and preserve the tooth. The success rate of root canal treatment depend on the degree of severity illness and treatment techniques are performed. Reciprocal system is a techniques which use rotary one file endodontic. Single visit endodontic on this treatment was chosenbecause this techniques provide distinct advantages, more economical cost and risk contamination can be reduced.Female 25 years-old with irreversible pulpitis in maxillary left first molar, on the X-ray picture of the root canal looks normal without any narrowing. Root canal treatment performed with anesthetic infiltration pehacain 2 %, using rubber dam during treatment to prevent bacterial contamination and access opening. Tooth preparation using rotary one file reciprocal system R#25, previously done by determining work length with apex locator and confirm with X-ray picture. Obturation with single cone gutta percha R#25 and top seal paste, cotton pellet and temporary material filling. Control after 24 hours, percussion is negative, patient feel little ofpain.Success of endodontic is depend on eliminate bacterial product. One visit endodontic with reciprocal technique is a relatively reliable and simple technique for dentist.

Abstract

Tooth decay might be maintained through a variety of treatments, root canal treatment is the common treatment for irreversible damage. In the present decade many offer various kinds of fillers and root canal sealers, but each filler and sealer has advantages and disadvantages. The aim of this study was to ensure that resin sealer has good properties to fill root canal. The function of the root canal filling material is to fill the root canal and eliminate all entrances between the periodontium and the root canal. However, to get the ideal cover material, in addition to the core filling material, a sealer material is also needed to cover the gap between gutta percha and the root canal wall. This literature review concluded that resin sealers have biocompatibility, may adhere to dentin and have better adhesive properties than other sealers.

Abstract

Fructose, which is the highest concentration of substance in honey, can stimulate saliva more than sucrose, so it is considered to affect the acidity (pH) of saliva, especially postmenopausal women who generally experience a decrease in salivary pH. This study aims to determine the ratio of salivary pH of menopausal women who rinse with drinking water and rinse with 15% concentrated honey. A sample of 32 postmenopausal women between the ages of 50-60 years were divided into 2 groups, namely the control group and the treatment group. Before being treated, the initial salivary pH of the two groups was recorded. Then the control group was instructed to rinse with drinking water and the treatment group was instructed to rinse with 15% honey. Both groups rinsed at the same time for 3 minutes. Then the salivary pH of each group is measured. Data analyzed by independent t-test between the two groups, showed a significance value of 0.037 in the control group and 0.041 in the treatment group (p <0.05). Paired t-test conducted in each group produced a significance value of 0.164 for the control group and 0.07 for the treatment group (p <0.05). Gargling with honey 15% can significantly increase the salivary pH of menopausal women compared to gargling with drinking water.
