Jurnal Ilmiah Psikologi Mind Set is a journal devoted to the development of psychology as a scientific discipline. To achieve this goal, Jurnal Ilmiah Psikologi Mind Set presents scientific texts from various branches of psychology. Published scientific papers are the results of empirical research, theoretical studies, as well as a merger of the two things. Abstract

The focus of the study is the relationship between Bass's (1985) transformational and transactional leadership style perceived by knowledge worker with Spector's (1997) job satisfaction on knowledge worker. The present study is a correlational field study. The purpose of this study is to give additional evidence on which leadership style predicts higher job satisfaction. According to this research, group of knowledge worker who work under transformational leader achieve higher job satisfaction than those who work under transactional leader.

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to show that Chinese (mainland) culture standards within Indonesian-Chinese intercultural work team relationship needed to be understood by Indonesian workers as diverse culture similarities, differences, and overlapping often become the conflict foundations. Anticipation and solution are required since the issues frequently lead the intercultural work group into culture shock, target failures, psychological stress. As a result, the individual, group, and/or organization productivity declines. By qualitative approach, using culture standards method from Prof. Dr. Alexander Thomas, five Indonesian workers from Indonesian-Chinese work groups are selected through criterion sampling. From 39 critical incidents produced, ten Chinese cultural standards from Indonesian perpective are built as follows: (1) national pride or patriotism; (2) mianzi or face; (3) customs; (4) quanxi or importance of social network; (5) duty; (6) hierarchical order; (7) cost-effectiveness; (8) collectivism; (9) conflict avoidance; and (10) mistrust. This finding has to be identified as integrated values, and is not to be generalized far and wide in the consideration of Chinese multiculturalism. Three coping strategies-planning, empathy, and assertiveness are generated from this research and could be applied in the efforts of achieving intercultural work group success and synergy.

Abstract

This writing is intended to understand the factors which affecting intention of turnover. Spirit of camaraderie, trust and credibility of the leader, work-family conciliation, and opportunity for learning and personal development constitute an authentizotic psychology climate factors which circumstantially can affect intention of turnover. Stress at work and affective well-being will circumstantially affect the intention of turnover of employees. Analysis is conducted using Structural Equation Model (SEM). Through Confirmatory Factor Analysis it is found that all indicators are usable, except stress variable and affective well-being. It is concluded that 1) stress and affective well-being directly affect the intention of turnover of employees, and four authentizotic psychological climate factors circumstantially affect the intention of turnover, 2) the spirit of camaraderie gives no affect to employees affective well-being, 3) perception of employees to learning opportunity and developing into affect the affective well-being, 4) stress affects the affective well-being, 5) affective well-being affects the intention of turnover, 6) stress affects the intention of turnover, 7) perception of employees to a credible and reliable leader is significantly influential, 8) perception of employees to conciliation provided by the company in balancing between the job and family gives no effect to work stress.

Abstract

This research is intended to understand description of religious orientation of the community. The basic concept of religious orientation used in this research came from Allport and Ross. The religious orientation is measured using Allport-Ross (AROS) measuring device which had been used by Mohammad and Ginting. It consisting of 20 opinions conducted with a Likert typed scale. There were 157 participants joined in this research. The average of intrinsic religious orientation from the group of participations is 4.48 with SD grade of 0.65 . Furthermore, average value of population is also found to be approximately of 4.38 to 4.59 with 95% l.o.s. If the result of this intrinsic religious orientation average is included in table 2, then the result of its intrinsic religious orientation in considered to be high. Meanwhile, the average of extrinsic religious orientation from the participants is 3.17 to 3.43 with 95% l.o.s. Such outcome if adjusted with table of category then extrinsic religious orientation of the community is rated low.

Abstract

Phenomenal incident happened regarding Ryan, a gay who killed and mutilated his victims because of his jealousy. This phenomenal has made the author wants to know about a jealousy among gays, especially in Jakarta. The purpose of this study is to understand about psychodynamic of jealousy, and to give suggestion for intervention strategy development such as counseling for gays. Other purpose is to give description of jealousy of gay in Jakarta. This study used qualitative method. Depth interview and observation we used to collect data. The followings research results are: 1) mainly age of subjects became gay were not in line with theories status the phase of being a gay; 2) all subjects have no father figure or father as negative life-style influence; 3) all subjects are ego dystonic homosexsual, 4) all subjects were stimulated by emotional jealousy; 5) type of jealousy on all sibjects are suspicious jealousy.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to recognize a positive relationship between hardiness and work satisfaction. This research used correlation design conducted in a natural setting. The participants were the nurses of the X hospital from three units: Emergency, Outpatients, and Inpatients. The number of the subject is 135 participants. The result shows that a positive correlation between hardiness and work satisfaction exists. The positive correlation proves that the relation between the two variables is proportional, i.e. a higher hardiness score means higher work satisfaction score, and vice versa. Therefore, people with high hardiness are more satisfied with their work. Conversely, persons with low hardiness are less satisfied with their job.

Abstract

The rapid change in the entertainment world give us the opportunity to know the daily lives of the celebrity. With that opportunity, we could then feel that we know the celebrity and have relationship with that person, which can be called as parasocial. Some of the characteristics of an individual who have the tendency to do a parasocial behavior are having a lack of social interaction and low self-esteem. Both of those characteristics are also a personal characteristics as an individual who tend to experience loneliness. The aim of this research is to know if loneliness would be linked to the strength of one's parasocial behavior. The research used UCLA Loneliness Scale ver.2 to measure loneliness and Celebrity Attitude Scale to measure parasocial behaviors. The sample of this research was 84 young adulthood women in the age between 20-40 years old. The result of this research shown that there are significant positive relationship between loneliness and parasocial behavior in young adulthood women.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to identify the difference in creativity between monolingual children and bilingual children. Peal and Lambert (in Landry, 1973) speculate that bilingual individuals learn more flexibly in their way of thinking because they learn two systems of labeling and are directed to perceive more aspects of their surrounding. Flexibility is one of important creativity factors. Therefore, it is concluded that bilingual children are more creative than monolingual children. This research was quantitative with an explanatory approach. The measurement tool used in this research was Tes Kreativitas Figural (TKF) adapted from Circle Test from Torrance and having been standardized by Education Psychology Division of Psychology Faculty, University of Indonesia. The subjects of this research were the students from Grade 5 National School (using Indonesian as the language in class) Al-Izhar Islamic Elementary School as well as National Plus School (using Indonesian and English as the languages in class) Cikal Elementary School. The analysis results show that the monolingual children have significantly higher creativity than the bilingual ones do. However, two-track analysis reveals the language(s) used in class significantly affect(s) creativity. Additional results show that the bilingual children have more ability to think abstractly than the monolingual ones do.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to gain understanding and experience of individual's risk perception. The research method was quantitative, using risk perception questionnaire (159 questions), adapted from Kpanake, Chauvin and Mullet (2008). The participants of this research were 123 Jakarta residents consisting of 98 females and 125 males. The results were put in five broad categories of risks: (1) natural disasters, (2) wars, (3) chemicals, (4) human relationships and (5) health. Natural disasters include tsunami and earthquake. Wars consist of battles, nuclear weapons, chemical weapons and dynamites. Chemical contain of ecstasy, heroin, and hospital wastes. Human relationships include sexual intercourse, crimes, and violence. One risk perception in health is heart surgery. The results of the research are somewhat different from Slovic, Fischhoff and Lichenstein's findings (1979) revealing that nuclear usage is the number one issue. This is due to the difference in research's conditions. Their research was conducted in US which have nuclear weapons and suffered several nuclear reactor accidents. On the other hand, Indonesia is not only an archipelago on actively moving earth crusts resulting on earthquakes and volcano eruptions but also undergoes destructive natural resource exploitation leading to floods and landslides.

Abstract

Brand awareness is the first step to reach communication goal in advertising (Kelly in Wells, Burnett, Moniarty, 1998). To reach the goal, advertising should be created as interesting as possible to get viewer's attention by using, among others, celebrity endorsement. However, the use of celebrities in ads has often been argued by advertising practitioner and marketer. This study used quasi experimental method with 72 participants divided into two groups, i.e. experimental group and control group. Eight commercials samples using celebrities were given to the first group, while the other group got ad samples without celebrities. Selection of celebrity was based on Q rating. Brand awareness was measured using brand recall test, a free recall type which was introduced by Rositter and Percy. The subjects were asked to repeat the product, brand, headline, slogan and illustration which were just shown to them. The data was analyzed by comparing t test of the two groups. The result demonstrated that celebrity appearance in ad gave significant influence towards teenage buyers. This was indicated by value t=2.170, p=0.03 (p<0.05). Of four aspects that we recalled, brand and headline recall the highest score and gave headline recall score was t=3.452 p=0.001 (p<0.05).
