Abstract

The anomaly in the intellectualism of classic Islam has dragged the main exponent of Sunni, Abu Hamid Al-Ghazali who is against the principles of science, into an argument. The stigma appears because he is considered to have criticized the theory of causalities as tradition apart. Although this doesn't weaken the role of the human mind, we are cautioned that this critic can ruin the scientific foundation. The intense debate comes up from this because Al-Ghazali proved that he was still in agreement with “the principle that nothing can happen without n cause”, that is the adage of Ibn Rusyd,  a Muslim philosopher from Cordova. The later philosopher then criticized AI-Ghazali, otherwise known as Hujattul Islam by giving different characters on the elements of physics like fire, cotton etc. If the water and the fire have no specific characteristic so it is nonsense God creates water and fire, because eventually those materials are not slightly different. If in the nature there is no specific mechanism, so there is no specific characteristic. This is a step forward that legitimizes causality as the primary relation and not the common relation. The writer of this paper would like to emphasize something unspeakable when AI-Ghazali limits absolutisms of the cause but does not refuse the cause. It is surely unavoidable that Ibn-Rusyd, the philosopher from Cordova conveys an impression that he goes to war without fighting.

Abstract

The discourse of the relationship between religion and state, which is sometimes more known as politic, has become a topic of interest in human life. The discussion resulted generally in three different group of thought. The first is contra group, those who obviously refuse the influence of religion towards state; the second is just the opposite, they apparently affirm that there is a strong and tight relationship between religion and state; and the last is middle group that try to compromise the two contradictive ideas. This study investigates the form of relationship between religion and state as reconciliation between religion authority on one hand and people authority on the other through the implementation of Khomeini's innovative idea of wilayat al-faqih in the constitution of Islamic Republic of Iran; and the models of democracy implemented in developing and conducting the governance of the country.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze gender issues in the Sufism paradigm. Through a study of relevant Sufism literature, this research has proven that Sufism paradigmatically views men and women as no different. In the eyes of God, according to the Sufis, the position of men and women (gender) is equal. The paradigm still recognizes the instinctive and instinctive differences between men and women with their respective strengths and weaknesses to give each other, receive and fill the void to reach al-insân al-kâmil (perfect human) on God's side. However, this article also finds that Sufi views on gender are not homogeneous. A number of Sufi figures examined in this article do have positive views towards women, but other Sufi figures may have different views. The difference between men and women from the view of Sufism is more emphasized on the outward aspect, while the inner aspect is essentially the same thing.

Abstract

This research is inquiring the relationship between Javanese Moslem immigrant and indigenous Lampungese Moslem community phenomenon in South Lampung concerning to intercultural communication. This research uses qualitative paradigm (case study) in which in-depth interview, participant observation, documentation studies are used as data compilation method. The data gathered is then analyzed descriptive qualitatively. The research concludes that Javanese Moslem immigrants use three strategies in adapting Lampungese Moslem: formal adaptation, natural adaptation, and ethnic identity manipulation. Other than expecting being accepted as Lampungese Moslem community, Javanese Moslem immigrants use manipulation strategy for economic and politic orientation. In the process of adaptation Javanese Moslem faces language, psychological and socio cultural barries. In the interaction, every individuality from each ethnic group has his own perspective and different attitude on their existence and relation toward other ethnic group. Some of Javanese Moslem and Lampungese Moslem perceive that all ethnic groups are similar and willing to have equivalent relationship, behave openly and having no distance with other ethnic group. Such type of Javanese and Lampungese are called inculusive Javanese and inclusive lampungese. On the other hand, exclusive Javanese and Lampungese are those who think that his own ethnic group is better than the other one’s and asking for special treatment for that reason. The research also concludes that communication and interaction dynamics between Javanese Moslem and Lampungese Moslem is going on circularly in various aspects of life, such as religion, economics, politics and social. The on going communication between the two ethnic groups can be colored by cooperation and competition. Competition is only psychological, it is not resulting conflict. Cooperation is motivated by politics, economics and relegion. For the reason of achieving the same interest, they can break the border of different ethnic group. Javanese Moslem and Lampungese Moslem ethnic groups in transmigration area in South Lampung are able to manage cultural differences so wisely that they can communicate harmoniously.
