Abstract

Seaweed farmer is one of the biggest livelihoods of the society in Bantaeng Regency. The problems of seaweed farmer's residential in Bantaeng city (case study), as follows: First, the excessive utilization of the residence so that the hierarchy of the spatial is not clear. Second, utilizing the structure or construction of the residence as a place of goods storage and as a place for clothes drying that can affect the building structures security. Third, the addition of spatial on the residence without a good planning on the structure and construction of the residence. Fourth, the spatial function for seaweed processing activities built in residential areas and on the residence itself so that seaweed industry processing developed into dense, slum, without sanitation, and unfit for habitation. The purpose of the research is to analyze the structure and construction of seaweed farmer's residence reviewed from its spatial organization and function in Bantaeng Regency. The data are obtained by direct survey and field observation where the interview is conducted by using questionnaire. The society aspiration data were obtained by using Focus Group Discussion (FGD) approach. Techinal analysis is conducted by using qualitative descriptive. The result of the analysis show that: 1) The spatial in the growing and developing residence is influenced by some seaweed farmer's activity and that spatial development influences the structure and construction development of stilt house buildings that are structured or overlapping each other. The construction development is conducted independently by the owner of the residence without an appropriate or standard basic constructions. 2) The concept of the structure and development of farmer's residence maintains the construction system of Bugis-Makassar stilt house but with the procurement of spatial organization as needed by the seaweed farmer. Key words: seaweed farmers, seaweed farmers's recidence, structure and construction

Abstract

There are several techniques to eliminate noise on signals such as signal analysis in time zone, frequency area and Short Time Fourier Transform. In the partial discharge signal, the signal analysis can be realized in the time domain or in the frequency domain. Where frequency and time analysis is the basic methodology in signal processing. The disadvantage of signal processing in the frequency domain is the time domain information being lost. Though, we need another solution for signal analysis. Wavelet transform is a solution to overcome the shortage because it can provide information in time and frequency domain. Wavelet transforms (WT) have been applied in various fields for signal processing in recent years. In this paper, a study of wavelet transformation was done to reduce noise from partial discharge signals that has been obtained from previous experiment. This application uses matlab software. In simulation, this wavelet application software performed as much as 144 times for one partial discharge signal by combining threshold, wavelet type, and level

Abstract

This paper describes the numerical simulation of partial discharge (PD) in oil-filled power transformer using FDTD method (Finite Difference Time Domain). We investigated the effects of oil insulation medium and internal structures on the propagation of electromagnetic signal emitted from the partial discharge source. In this study, partial discharge was modeled as the Gaussian Pulse with the width 20ns. To observe the electromagnetic intensity and also the voltage distribution, three sensors were employed. The magnitude, frequency, and attenuation of the EM wave without internal structure and with internal structure were compared. The Results show that the EM wave intensity attenuated while propagating through the winding and oil insulation. And the time arrival of each signal is different due to its distance from the PD source. The first dominance frequency of the simulation without and with winding and core occur in 1 GHz of frequency. However, the frequency spectrum of simulation with winding and core has a resonance frequency in the low region which is 80 MHz of frequency. This is explained as the winding is considered as a loop antenna

Abstract

At the stage of ship design, in addition of use up to date software can also need model test to verify the results of the calculation, such as resistance test, open water test, self propulsion test which associated powering of the ship. Beside of these, engines propeller matching is required to determine the load engine characteristics and ship speed associated propeller used. In this study, high speed vessel with Gawn series propeller type is used. Based on EPM results known that at 28 knots of speed, propeller has a high enough efficiency around 0.56 in rough hull condition. By using the CAT 280-8 engine, at 1000 rpm, ship speeds can reach about 30.5 knots and power requirements is 2400 kW.

Abstract

The Floating Production Unit (FPU) is a floating gas production barge that is moored by catenary mooring system to the seabed. In the operation, Floating Production Unit (FPU) will get dynamic loads such as ocean waves, ocean currents, and winds on the mooring line structure periodically. This may cause damage to mooring line structures which effect to the operational structure performance. The aim of the present study is to discuss fatigue life on catenary mooring system. The model studied refers to the comparison of using or without using the Single Line Freestanding Riser (SLFR), the operational design and installation conditions at FPU Gendalo-Gehem and located in the Makassar Strait. The dimensions of mooring line type six-strand wire rope are 0,115 meters outer diameter and 1.200 meters length will be fatigue life analyzed. The FPU motion observation in heading 1800 (head seas) shows the highest Response Amplitude Operator (RAO) surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch, and yaw motion due to harsh environments with Hs = 4,0 meters and T = 7,7 sec are 0,615 m/m; 9,354x10-7 m/m; 1,048 m/m; 18,423x10-6 0/m; 2,225 0/m; and 12,671x10-8 0/m. It means that the amplitude response will always be smaller than the wave amplitude coming up. Another thing happened when using SLFR has longer frequency about 0,207 rad/sec than without using SLFR. Taking into RAO motion calculation, the fatigue life on catenary mooring systems for head seas are 412 years in mooring line 4 and mooring line 5 with using SLFR while without using SLFR for 6.636 years in mooring line 5. The structure is still in safe condition because of the design safety factor about 300 years.

Abstract

In company with extreme developments of electronic devices, there are some unavoidable challenges to the conventional cooling methods such as high heat dissipation, limitation of cooling space, reliable operation as well as saving energy consumption. Therefore, the necessity of studying on new or how to improve the existing technologies is undoubted. Among various methodologies, the loop heat pipe (LHP) whose operation principle base on phase changing process, can be considered as one of the potential solutions of modern electronics cooling. This paper introduces the experimental investigation on the thermal performance of a flat-rectangular evaporator LHP with sintered stainless-steel wick when functioning under gravity assisted condition. Working fluid of this LHP was water. The present LHP could maintain stable operation in the range of heating power from 50 W to 520 W and keep the temperature on the heater’s top surface at 85oC, commonly recommended as the limitation temperature of electronics, when heating power reaches value 350 W (129.6 kW/m2). Besides, when turning the heater off, it took about 15 minutes for the LHP to cool the heating block from 102oC to 37oC. In addition, an assumption of the boiling heat transfer is introduced in this paper to explain the performance of evaporator at different heat flux conditions of the experiment.

Abstract

Sulphate Reducing Bacterials (SRB) is one of the challanging problem in oil and gas. It could attack the metals to form a pit. The SRB ussually left a colony as the indication of corrosion attack. One of the main problem to prevent the corrosion attack is the ablitity to mapping the possibility of attacking area. However, this study offer a method to simulate the bacterial growth area based on the differential flow rate in the pipe. The flow simulation showed the ability to be used as the analytical tool for the bacterial growth mappings. Laboratory testing was also conducted for confirmation of the SRB presence in the system

Abstract

In order to be competitive through globalization and free trade agreements, Small Manufacturing Enterprises must provide a high-quality product at a competitive price at the right time. But inadequate resources of the enterprises have prevented them to remain competitive. Therefore they need to innovate and find new ways to overcome these challenges. Collaborative Manufacturing Network (CMN) is a way forward to address these challenges. However, the process of collaboration is not a simple process. Instead, it is a complex and very dynamic process since there are many factors involved that need to be considered for the establishment of a successful collaboration. Many kinds of research have been conducted in this area of CMN, but there are still numerous unsolved problems identified. Decision-making issues and formulating business collaboration model in a context of CMN are two such issues. This research tries to identify the problems faced in a CMN environment, stress on the importance of building a model based on the consideration of aspects involved in a CMN and then identifying a model for decision-making process in a CMN Environment.

Abstract

Breaking wave near beaches is the main force to generate longshore currents, which moved the sediment at surrounding area. Due to its negative outcome, which are erosion and sedimentation, the need of longshore sediment transport analysis become very important. One of the tools for solving that problem is by using coastal protection structure such as permeable groin. Permeable groin may reduce the rate of longshore sediment transport respectively by changing the level of permeability of the groin itself. The objective of this research was to obtain analytical results of the longshore sediment transport reduction analysis by using permeable groins at Tanjung Bayang Beach of South Sulawesi. Reduction of sediment transport along the beach was analyzed by calculating reduction coefficient, which is the ratio between the longshore current before and after hitting the permeable groins. The result showed that with 40% of permeability, the groin can reduced longshore sediment transport at Tanjung Bayang Beach for almost 50%; from 341.37x103 m3/year to 170.68x103 m3/year.
