Dialectical Literature and Education Journal is a journal that publishes original papers researching or documenting issues in literature and education. It is published by English Education Department, STKIP Panca Sakti Bekasi. The journal has regularly published two times a year in March and October. We accept original research, conceptual, and best practice articles related to literature and education. The language of the journal is English. The aim of this Journal is to promote a principled approach to research on literature and language-related concerns by encouraging inquiry into relationship between theoretical and practical studies. The journal welcomes contributions in such areas of current analysis in: English Language Pedagogy; English language Literacy; English for Specific Purposes; ELT Materials Development and Evaluation; English Language Testing and Assessment; Teaching English to Young Learners; English Literature; Language Policy and Planning; and Second Language Acquisition.

Abstract

This study investigates a number of theories about the sophistication of cyber technology-based classroom management through the application of a learning management system, especially the results of previous research through literature review as well as the thoughts and experiences of educational practitioners, technologists, academics, and theorists both related to education. with regard to education. The purpose of this research is to photograph the problems of a number of higher and secondary education institutions in Indonesia regarding the urgency of cyber technology to support the effectiveness and efficiency of learning models in the 21st Century. By identifying the obvious problems, a model for implementing classroom action management is sought, especially the stages or prerequisites. that must be met for the implementation of 21st Century Education. Educational institutions are constantly developing curricula according to the paradigm shifts of the global community both in terms of science and technology to operational matters, namely educational processes and management supported by Information and Communication Technology. The research method using descriptive-qualitative begins with a literature study, in-depth interviews with the respondents involved using the snowball sampling technique. The results of the literature study and interviews are used as an inviting paper to be discussed in a focus group discussion (FGD) forum to conduct needs assessments and equalize perceptions (intersubjectivity) for academics, theorists, students, scientists, and education staff. Thus, comprehensive conclusions and recommendations for optimizing the implementation of Education in 21st Century.

Abstract

The aims of this research is to observe that (1) the use of Google Classroom during Online Learning during the covid-19 pandemic is very useful in English subjects. (2) Especially in the assignments in class, assessment, and providing material in English subjects in SMPN 6 Bekasi of 7th grade. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. to collect the data the researcher used questionnaires, interviews and observations while using the Google Classroom application in the classroom during the application of Online Learning. This research data uses a questionnaire with 10 statements and interviews with 10 questions related to the use of Google Classroom in Learning English through google forms which were distributed to 35 students as respondents. Based on the results obtained by the researcher, that 51.4% strongly agree of 35 students that the Google Classroom application is very useful, easy to use, and very helpful for students in teaching and learning activities during Online Learning in English subjects. The features (Assignment, Assessment, and Provide materials) contained in the Google Classroom application are also very helpful for students based on the highest presentation results in this study, obtained 60% strongly agree from all respondents. Furthermore, the use of the Google Classroom application during the covid-19 pandemic when the application of Online Learning could be utilized by students as a media to support teaching and learning activities in English subjects.

Abstract

Vocabulary is an important part of learning English. There are lots of ways to be able to have a lot of vocabulary, one of which is to use a U-Dictionary application. Students who are researching vocabulary have difficulties in mastering English, particularly in terms of getting to know vocabulary which they frequently research at school. This research aims to observe the utilization of U-Dictionary application in learning vocabulary at 7th grade of SMPN 6 Bekasi. A qualitative descriptive method was employed in this research. In this research, an interview with the English teacher at the school was conduct regarding the utilization of the U-Dictionary, a questionnaire for students regarding the benefits they get when using the U-Dictionary application, observations during classroom learning vocabulary activities, and documentation of students. Also, the data were obtained using questionnaire and interview. This research was conducted on 40 students who were given a questionnaire containing 10 statements regarding the benefits of the U-Dictionary. Most of the students 60% of 40 students are usually strongly agree that the U-Dictionary application helps the students in learning English Vocabulary, 52.5% of 40 students choose strongly agree that U-Dictionary application adds a lot of new vocabulary, 62.5% of 40 students are usually strongly agree that U-Dictionary application is necessary for the students. In observation of this research found 3 facts on the class; 1) maximum utilization and use can provide good things, 2) increase students learning enthusiasm, 3) give rewards to students.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effect of using Kahoot! application on students’ vocabulary at seventh grade of SMPN 6 Bekasi. This research was conducted in the academic year 2021/2022. This research method uses an experimental design. The sample of this study consisted of 40 students at the seventh grade and divided the students into 2 classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. This data was obtained by conducting a post test on the students. The post test for the experimental class is given through the Kahoot! application while the control class is given via Google Form. The reliability test analysis was carried out in this study using the SPSS program, with a value of 0.609 it can be said that the test is valid. The results of the post-test from both classes showed that the score of the experimental class was 1900 and the control class was 1470 which means there is a difference between the results of the post-test control class and the experimental class. This shows that the t test value has a significance level

Abstract

Currently learning can be done vocabulary can use social media. Social media that are widely used by the younger generation today are YouTube and Instagram, there are lots of YouTube and Instagram accounts for learning English, one of which is Kampung Inggris. Students who want to learn English in an easy and accessible way can view content on social media that has been presented by Kampung Inggris. This study aims to determine the use of social media YouTube and Instagram in Kampung Inggris as a method of learning vocabulary at SMPN 06 Bekasi. This study uses a qualitative method. In this study, interviews with English teachers will be conducted to find out more about learning English using Instagram and YouTube social media from Kampung Inggris. Questionnaires are given to students regarding the use of Instagram and YouTube social media during vocabulary learning at school, observations are made by giving some questions to find out which social media is more often used by students and documentation of student learning activities. The results of this study found that 66,66% of students prefer learning through YouTube than Instagram. Social media YouTube and Instagram also provide positive benefits for students because they can increase learning motivation and increase students' vocabulary.

Abstract

This research was classroom action research (CAR) design that through short expressions to develop speaking skill of Seventh grade of SMPIT AL HIKMAH Jakarta, which amount of 20 students. It focused on developing the real condition of English teaching and learning. To recognize the scholars’ development fulfillment, the researcher used oral test in cycle I, and cycle II. Earlier than implementing exam cycle I and cycle II, the researcher carried out movement to the students through cycles. The result of cycle I had confirmed the development of students speaking ability, but that development did not complete the standard score which is 7, because of that the researcher persevered to use cycle II. And in the test cycle II finally the scholars showed the development drastically. The result the students speaking score at pre-cycle to cycle II are increasing. In cycle I by 62% and improved in cycle II to 85%. The results indicate there is a development in students speaking ability through short expression. It could be concluded that developing speaking ability through short expression are powerful and successful.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to know how the effect of the Quizizz application on students’ vocabulary mastery at 7th grade of SMPN 6 Bekasi. This research method uses an experimental design. The sample is all students of VII-G and VII-H 7th grade of SMPN 6 Bekasi. This data was obtained by conducting a post-test on the students. The results of the attached t-test table, it is known that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) < 0.5. By equating the score of the experimental class with the score of the control class, the experimental class is greater than the score of the control class. Based on the analysis of information, it’s known that students in grades VII-G who use Quizizz to increase their learning motivation in English vocabulary mastery have a higher level of total English vocabulary knowledge. This shows that the t-test value has a significance level. In other words, Quizizz has an effect on increasing vocabulary mastery and motivation for students.

Abstract

The online flipped classroom is growing in popularity as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread throughout the world. This type of learning is necessary in many places where traditional classrooms are not possible or safe to attend. To examine the effects of the OFC model, this study used a quasi-experimental design. Moreover, this study aimed to identify English language students’ attitudes toward the OFC model of instruction. There were sixty-five students of classes XIC and XID at MAN 3 Palembang that were split into experimental and control groups randomly. The control group was treated with Blended Learning, while the experimental group was treated with Online Flipped classroom. Mixed-method design was carried out in this research. To ensure homogeneity and normality, both groups took a reading comprehension pre-test at the beginning of the study. After the experiment, the post-test was given to the experimental and control groups. The statistical analyses of independent samples t-test showed that the experimental group had better reading comprehension scores than the control group. The results of frequency analyses showed that EFL students in the experimental group had more positive attitude towards OFC model of instruction and agreed that it was helpful to them in many ways. It is suggested that OFC can be used as an effective methodology for teaching reading comprehension to EFL students.

Abstract

Today's teens face challenges more than previous generations. The use of information and technology are mentioned as among the causes of problems for teenagers in Indonesia, such as; pornography, promiscuity, premarital sex, and low motivation to study. A positive parenting is needed to help adolescents build their resilience and self-esteem to deal with obstacles in their life. Previous research on parenting styles showed that parents who used strength-based parenting helped children to develop coping skills and increased self-esteem in teenagers. Strength-based parenting is used to identify and encourage teens to recognize and use their strengths in every aspect of their life. Thus, the current study was conducted to see this parental pattern's contribution to adolescents' resilience and self-esteem. The study was held on teenagers aged 11-18 from a family using Talents Mapping in Indonesia. Sixty responses were taken by using the Strength-Based Parenting Scale, Child Youth Resilience Measure-Revised, and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Data is analysed using a regression test. The findings showed that the effects of strength-based parenting on a teenager's self-esteem are positive and significant. It was also found that resilience is positively related to youth's self-esteem. Furthermore, strength-based parenting and resilience are simultaneously positive and significant on teenagers' self-esteem, as 10.4%.

Abstract

The purpose of this classroom action research was to investigate whether Problem-Based Learning (PBL) could effectively address the students’ writing difficulties; to improve their writing skills in the descriptive text as well as to identify the factors that contributed to the improvement. The research participants were 26 students from grade X MIPA 2 of SMAN 6 Kerinci. The study was conducted over two cycles, and data were collected using various instruments, including tasks, tests, observation checklists, field notes, and interviews. The results of the study revealed that the implementation of PBL was effective in improving the student’s writing skills. The PBL process involved giving students a real-life problem to stimulate their writing, group discussion, research, and investigation using worksheets, drafting, writing a descriptive text report, presenting, and evaluating the report as a group. The students’ writing skills were evaluated using test scores, and the average scores significantly improved from 63.1 before the application of PBL to 75.67 after the first cycle and 84.19 after the second cycle. The study also identified several factors that contributed to the improvement, including the quality of the teaching material, the use of appropriate media, and engaging classroom activities. In conclusion, the study demonstrated that PBL was an effective approach to enhancing students' writing skills in the descriptive text at grade X MIPA 2 of SMAN 6 Kerinci.
