Abstract

Cerithidea cingulata and Littoraria scabra are type of snail that use mangrove ecosystems as one of their habitat. Dumai is one of the industrial cities in the province of Riau, where various kinds of human activities can disrupt the ecosystem of mangroves and its associated biota. This research was conducted in October 2018 in the Mangrove Forest Area (PAB) of Pangkalan Sesai village of Dumai City, aiming to determine population densities and length-weight relationship of C. cingulata and L. scabra. The method used in this study is a survey method. Sampling was conducted by using the line transect method, where each station consists of 3 transects and each transect consists of 3 sampling points as replications. The results showed the population density of C. cingulata and L. scabra snails was higher than at stations near the Dumai river estuary compared with the population near by mangrove forest and length-weight relationship showed that the growth patterns of both C. cingulata and L. scabra were allometric negative and have strong correlation value.

Abstract

Organic matter is one indicator of environmental fertility either on land or at sea. Content Organic matter in the waters will experience an increase caused by discharges from households, agriculture, industry and organic waste from land to coast. The objective of this research is to know the content of organic material in water and sediment in the waters of Coast Mirror and the relation of organic matter content to water and sediment. The result of calculation of organic matter content in water ranged from 26.6 – 49.3 mg/l and the content of organic matter in sediment ranged from 3.9 – 5.1 %. Furthermore, through simple linear regression test known that the relationship of organic matter content in water and sediment has a weak relationship with the correlation r = 0.53. The analysis of sedimentary fractions in the pulau halang muka is dominated by muddy substrates.

Abstract

This study aims to determine differences in zooxanthella density based on the life forms of coral Acropora Branching, Submassive Acropora, Branching, Foliose, Heliopora and comparing zooxanthella densities between the forms of coral form. This study was conducted in January-February 2020 on Marak Island, Nagari Sungai Pinang, West Sumatera Province. Zooxanthella density was calculated at the Marine Biology Laboratory, Department of Marine Sciences, University of Riau. The survey methode was used in this study, where the data collected was primary data. Coral Sampling was done by free collection using the SCUBA (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus). The result of study in the waters of Marak Island, West Sumatera on Acropora Branching corals were in the range of 0.004-0.13×106 cells/cm2. Acropora Submassive range of 2.95- 3.56×106 cells/cm2. Branching range of 2.41-2.59×106 cells/cm2. Foliose range of 0.44-1.09×106 cell/cm2. Heliopora range of 1.30-1.59×106 cell/cm2. The highest zooxanthella density was in Submassive Acropora and the lowest in Acropora Branching corals due to different forms of growth and temperature influences. Different forms of coral growth affect the zooxanthella density on a coral and the success of coral growth depends on the zooxanthella density and the size of the corallite of each coral life form.

Abstract

This research was conducted in August to November 2019. It aims to determine the potential fishing ground based on thermal front and upwelling in the waters of West Sumatra. The survey method was applied in this research. The results showed that the distribution of thermal front and upwelling in the waters of West Sumatra experienced a change that was not too significant. Based on the results of sea surface temperature verification on the Aqua MODIS image with the temperature in the field obtained temperature differences of around ± 10C. The catch during the research shows that catches in the thermal front area can be used as a potential fishing ground because the catch in the thermal front area is more than the area outside the thermal front

Abstract

The study was conducted in August-October 2019. Aims to determine theconcentration of nitrate, phosphate, uniformity index, diversity and index of dominancy,abundance of epipelic diatoms and know the relationship between nitrate,phosphate and epipelic abundance diatoms in the water area of Sungaitohor DesaMeranti of Riau Islands district. The method used in this research is a surveymethod consisting of 4 research stations. Location of observation and sampling is in the waters of Muara Sungaitohor Kabupaten Meranti Islands. Basedon the results of this study of nitrateconcentrations in the waters of Sungaitohor Bekisar village 0,068-0,092 mg/l, phosphate concentrations ranged0,097-0,220 mg/L. The Epipelic diatom found in the water area of Sungaitohorvillage amounted to 14 types. As for the abundance of type diatomsepipelics ranged from 27,531.72– 40,531.72 ind/cm2. From theCalculation of the community structure diatoms epipelic obtained diversityindex value (H ') which indicates a low index value of h ' has a value of2.7527 and is at a range of 1 ≤ H ' ≤ 3. The uniformity index (E) indicatesthat an epipelic spread is not balanced with an average value of 0.3643uniformity and is at a range of value ≤ 0.5. Meanwhile, the Dominance index (D)shows the value of 0.1704 where the value of the area in the waters ofSungaitohor village does not dominate. The relationship of abundance ofepipelic diatoms with the concentration of nitrate is positive and very weak,with a correlation coefficient of R = 0.0030. While the relationship ofAbundance diatomic epipelic relationship with phosphate concentrations isnegative and weak, with a correlation coefficient r = 0.262. Abundance ofdiatomic epipelics is directly proportional to the concentration of nitrate andinversely proportional to phosphate concentrations

Abstract

The research was conducted on November 2019 with sampling at the sea waters of Dumai, Riau province. Further, analysis samples in the Marine Chemistry’s Laboratory on Marine Sciences Department in Fisheries and Marine Faculty University of Riau. Method used method of survey. The form of data collection is the primary data obtained from survey activities and observation data from samples that have been analyzed in the laboratory. The results of the study showed that the type of microplastic found in sea water and Senangin (E. Tetradactylum) is a type of microplastic fiber, fragments, and film. Microplastic pellet type was not finding in this research. The abundance of microplastics in seawater samples ranges from 333,3333-456,6667 particles/m3, while the abundance of microplastics in Senangin fish (E. tetradactylum) is 966,6667-1933,3333 particles/Ind.

Abstract

This research was conducted on September 2019 in west Sumatera waters which was aimed to find out the level of aquatic productivity, to analyze the yellowfin tuna fishing ground and to find out the corelation between sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a with the total catch of yellowfin tuna. In conducting the research, survey and spatial analyze were used as the method. The highest total catch of yellowfin tuna was on October 2019 with the total 60.610 kg and the CPUE 166 kg/trip. On the other hand, the lowest total catch was on June with the total 18.080 kg and CPUE 92,7179 kg/trip. Based on the result of the CPUE, October is the best month for fishing. The correlation coefficient between SST and total catch in 2018 was -0.69 which mean there was a negative correlation. Meanwhile, the correlation chlorophyll-a with the total catch was 0.65 which mean the corelation between both variables were not good

Abstract

The waters of West Sumatera that face directly into Indian Ocean is strongly influenced by Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon which caused an anomaly of sea surface temperature (SST) and affect rainfall intensity in the West Sumatera Province. This research was aimed to know the effect of IOD on the distribution and anomaly of SST and rainfall intensity in West Sumatera. Data processing methods in this research is using statistical and descriptive. The data used in this research are NOAA OI-SST, Dipole Mode Index (DMI), and rainfall data from BKMG. The results showed that IOD positive occured in October 2018 and the IOD negative occured in July 2016. During the positive IOD, SST distribution values were 28 ˚C – 28,8 ˚C and SST anomaly values were ​​-1,2 to -0,4, in the negative phase the distribution of SST values were 29,8 ˚C – 30,35 ˚C and the SST anomaly values were 0,15 to 0,7. The rainfall intensity during positive IOD phase is 157 mm/month and during negative IOD phase is 525 mm/month.

Abstract

Razor clam (Solen lamarckii) is a type of pelecypoda that has high economic value on the Api api village waters, Bengkalis Regency. This research aims to study the population structure and reproduction of razor clam. The study was carried out over 2 month period from September to October 2019 at Api api village waters, Bengkalis Regency. Razor clam samples were collected by using a 1 x 1 m2 frame that laid along transect. There were 5 plots and 5 subplots along the transect as replications. The result showed, the population density of razor clams is 3.12 species/m2 in September and 2.88 species/m2 in October 2019. The distribution pattern of razor clams was uniform. While, the most common size of razor clam is the medium size category (40-60 mm) both in September and in October 2019. The average value of gonado somatic index (GSI) was 2.28-8.60%. Histological analysis indicated that maturity gonad stage of razor clam was commonly found in September is maturity gonad stage I (60%), while in October is stage III (40%) and stage IV(30%).

Abstract

This study was conducted in December 2019, which was located in Dompak Village, Bukit Bestari District, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands Province. The purpose of this study was to determine the species composition and condition of mangrove forests based on the value of density, canopy cover and the importance value index of mangroves. The survey method was used in this study, where the data collected was primary data. There are 10 types of mangroves including Avicennia lanata, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, B. cylindrica, Rhizophora apiculata, R. stylosa, Nypa fruticans, Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum, Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea and Hibiscus tiliaceus. Mangrove density was in good condition with moderate to dense ​​ranging from 1344.44-1555.56 ind/ha. Canopy cover was in good condition ​​ranging from 61.49-68.47%. The highest importance value index was R. apiculata with a value of 140.32% and the lowest was B. cylindrica with a value of 4.29%.
