The result of this study shows that there were 119 data found in inauguration speech of Donald Trump that are relevant with the research problem. and the researcher found eleven generalization, particularization, linguistic compression, linguistic amplification, modulation, compensation, reduction, literal translation, and transposition. The use of literal translation technique is dominant than other techniques in this research. The researcher found 94 data that contains literal translation technique in the research findings where type of doing 67 and happening 27. Besides, the less of translation techniques used are borrowing, reduction, and linguistic amplification with one data. Literal technique is the most frequent because this technique does not distort meanings in the source language; thus, the meanings can be conveyed into the readers in target language well. The researcher expects the next researchers to do analysis on translation with other object of research.

Abstract

Indonesian literature is rich with cultural nuance expressed by an author in his/her works. Being translated into world lingua franca would make the literary work read by more people, but surely, it is challenging, as a translator must apply the most appropriate translation strategies. Senyum Karyamin is one of Indonesian literary works that represent local culture and has been translated into English. Based on the analysis, in translating 122 Javanese cultural lexicons in Senyum Karyamin, a translator applied 7 strategies, namely: transference (34 data, 27.87%), omission (9 data, 7.37%), descriptive equivalence (19 data, 15.58%), cultural equivalence (25 data, 20.51%), generic word (29 data, 23.78%), additional explanation (3 data, 2,.47%), and footnote (3 data, 2.47%). The orientations of translation ideology were foreignization (translating 59 data – 48.39%) and domestication (translating 63 data – 61.51%). It can be concluded that the preservation of Javanese cultural lexicon is not optimally executed by the translator because the domestication slightly dominates the foreignization. However, the wide variety of applied translation strategies shows that translation practice is dynamic.

(4) The declension of French personal pronoun is complex and has a close relation with the predicate, because French verbs have three kinds of conjugation and its personal pronoun has its personal endings for the each term.

The data were then analyzed and presented using descriptive quantitative method. The findings indicate that most of the students’ reported facing problems when generating ideas during the initial phase of research writing. Data analysis show that the problems range from the topic development, theoretical frameworks identification, relevant theory search, trusted sources evaluation, research ideas and relevant theory connection, as well as problems and theory assessment. Some pedagogical implications in light of the findings are discussed following the presentation of the results of the study, such as the importance to provide constructive feedback in a timely manner, and discussing ways to evaluate quality resources.
