Abstract

   This article discusses stylistic in Al-Mutawassimīn text, a Malay text  manuscript. This study used qualitative descriptive design.  The manuscript was evaluated its stylistics aspects and its characteristics were elaborated.  The findings of analysis indicate that characteristics stylistic Al-Mutawassimīn text use a style of a hallmark of a genre of religious literature.  The styles of genre were identified thorugh vocabulary, phrases, syntax, rhetoric or language means rhetorical and figurative language.  Stylistics of Al-Mutawassimin are five kinds: (1) kinds of vocabulary are  Indonesian, Arabic, Java, and some phrases in Arabic; (2) syntactics are in the form of the use of the conjunction "and" and "then"; (3) rhetoric means consist of polisindeton, (4)  euphemism and litotes are used; and (5) figurative languages such as simile are present.

Abstract

  This study describes rewriting process of tale reproduction and attainment in reproduction of a tale using constructivism teaching tecniques.  This study used Classroom Action Researc design on two cycles. Students were asked to rewrite contents of the tales and edited the writing on its contents and language use.  Subject of the study was 25 eigth graders of MTs Almuttaqien Buper, Jayapura.  Data were writing texts on the tales produced by students and scores on the quality of the texts.  Findings of the study showed that in cycle I students’ writing production was short of content and outline resulting incomplete quality.  Competency standard achieved in cycle I was 64%, below minimum criteria of attainment.  In cycle II students achieved 84% on rewriting the tales, indicating higher achievement than minimum criteria 75%.  This means constructivism has been successfully increased students’ attainment on reproducing tales they read.

Abstract

This study describes implementation of learning cycle model to improve attaintment of drawing decorations using wood material.  Classroom action research design with two circles  was used.  The study took place in SMPN 1 Karangploso Malang in March to April 2015 involving 30 students of 7th grade. Data of this study were processes of instruction to draw decorations. This study revealed (1) average score in circle I are:  scetching 69, implementing 68.96, and drawing 71.87’; and in circle II: 80.8 scetching, 82.4 implementing and 82.3 drawing;  (2)  In circle II process of raising  question, answering teacher’s questions, learning efforst, participation and self-independence, respectively are:  very good (1.3%), good (52.2%, fair (44.2%), and low (2,2%); in circle II were: very good (21.8%), good (68.8%), fair (3.1%), and low (0%).  Learning cycle models in this study improves learning process and attainment on drawing on material woods.

Abstract

 The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness of video to teach descriptive text in terms of content of idea of the text, organization, and accuracy of language use. This study uses a quantitative approach using an experimental class and no class control. Data were analyzed using t-test. The results showed that the application of video media panorama in learning to write text descriptions have demonstrated the effectiveness and improve the learning outcomes of students of class VII SMPN 1 Karangploso in the academic year 2015/2016.

Abstract

 This study aims to improve motivation and learning outcomes capture the meaning of the text critical response class IX students of SMPN 1 Karangploso using learning model Think Pair Share (TPS). This type of research using the design of classroom action research with two cycles. Based on the results of learning in the second cycle there is an increase in the persistence indicator by 78%; seriousness of 76%; the attractiveness of the material 76%; independence 84%; cooperation 80%; the persistence of 82%, while the average score of exercises that 81.29% of students answered. From the data obtained by observation and questionnaires can be concluded that the implementation does learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) can improve motivation and learning outcomes capture the meaning of the text critical response class IX students of SMPN I Karangploso the academic year 2015/2016.

Abstract

This study aims to identify code mixing used by the late President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) in his speech delivered in the 69th Indonesian Indepence Day.  This study used content analysis implementing qualitative approach.  A text of the official speech issued by the presidential office was used as sources of data.  Corpora in the text was identified and classified as they were presented as code mixing in the social interaction contexts.  This study revealed (1) 11 code mixings were present in the president speech, (2) types of code mixing in the speaach were insertion, and (3) the code mixing styles appearing in the presidential speech  were communicatively delivered.

Abstract

 The purpose of this study was to describe the shape and factors causing environmental unstructured speech level in Kebumen. This study used a qualitative descriptive study. Data of this study were verbal utterances using Javanese uttered by teenagers and adults in Puring District, Kebumen regency, Central Java.  The results showed that the shape of the chaos of speech level includes: (a) the form of higher manners (krama inggil) to polite manners (ngoko alus), (b) the form of polite manners (ngoko alus) to higher manners (krama inggil) and (c) to form higher polite manners (ngoko inggil). The unstructured speech levels occur as a result of: (1) lack of knowledge/ understanding of the use poliness patterns of Javanese, (2) direct contact among migrants from Yogyakarta and Solo cities of the native politness Javanese originate, (3) low education level, (4) low frequency of speaking Javanese using polite pattersn, and (5)  lack of mastery of vocabulary and speech level in polite manners of Javanese to teach younger generations.

Abstract

This study describes ideal characters reflected in Sasaknese Folklore (Cerita Rakyat Sasak). The design of this study is qualitative implementing descriptive-interpretive techniques. Sources of the data of this study were sequences of the Folklore representing ideal characters of human beings.  Specifically, this study used hermeneutic approach, an approach from which indepth analysis of a text is applied.  Data analysis referred to perspective-constructive that focused on intensity, determined categories, and target of the expected result.  The study revealed that Sasakne Folklore is one of the oral folklore reflecting high human values.  The good characters included religious, work hard, patient, high responsibility, mutual-consultative, and loyal.

Abstract

In the field of linguistics, Sapir and Whorf claimed that language and culture are closely related.  Language is the reflection of how culture of a community shares.  Sapir and Whorf defined two main functions of language in the community.  First, language will change from the original if the language is used far from the center where the language origins.  This concept is named as language drift.  Second, the characteristics of individuals’ culture are manifested in the language they use. This paper is a brief review on theories of language from Sapir-Whorf that inspires on the development of sociolinguistics and discourse analysis in the era that follows.

Abstract

This study explores instructional process, individual performance, and attainments on public speaking. Classroom action research design with three cycles and 12 meetings was used.  Conducted in IAIN Surakarta on March to June 2016, it assigned 26 students of semester IV-B as subject. Check list, interview, and field notes were used as the instruments.  The analyses foused on classroom participation, individual performance, and scores on formative test. This study revealed that: (1) In Cycle I, motivation, partipation and  performance were low, mean scores of classrom participation was 64.10% (fair), individual performance 58.46 (low) and formative test 65.12 (fair); (2) In Cycle II, learning participation, encouragement and motivation increased. Average scores on classroom participation was 81,41% (good), individual performance 71,92% (fair) and formative test 74,81 (fair). (3) Cycle III achieved higher gains in participation, motivation, enrouragement, and test. Average scores on classroom participation, individual performance and formative test attainments were 83,98% (good), 81,54% (good), and 80,27 (good). The use of 14 aspects of public speaking as template and appeals of persuation from Aristoteles: ethos, pathos and logos was crucial.
