CLASSROOM ACTION RESEARCH: USING COOPERATIVE LEARNING (TEAM PAIR SOLO) TO IMPROVE NURSING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING SKILL Wahyu Wibisono

Mastering many languages is a softskill that every nurse must acquire in order to make patients feel comfortable and decrease the anxiety.. English is one of many languages which is widely used in the world. So, it is important to a nurse to be able to communicate using English. This research was intended to apply cooperative learning TPS (Team Pair Solo) as the technique to enhance students’ English-speaking skill when they took the “communicating class” in the fifth semester in Stikes Patria Husada Blitar. This research was a Classroom Action Research. The subject was 10 students of the fifth semester. The researcher used several instruments; such as observation checklist, field notes, test, and questionnaire. The findings showed that TPS were effective in improving the speaking skill of the student in class. This could be seen by the increase of students’ mean scores in the test results 65.1 in preliminary study became 81.3 in the first cycle and this also meant that 100% students could pass the minimum passing grade of 78 which was setted by the researcher as the criteria of success of the research itself. The improvement could also be seen on the results of the field notes that showed positivity, raise of motivation, and good responses from the students. It showed that by using cooperative learning (Team Pair Solo), students’ motivation and self-esteem increased since the TPS could accommodate students to be well prepared before they speak by discussing in team, pair with other student, and finally they have great self-esteem to stand by their self infront of the class. Other researchers were expected to elaborate this cooperative learning with other technique so that there would be alot of technique could be used as reference in teaching English

THE DERIVATIONAL AFFIXES ANALYSIS OF GAP FILL PARAGRAPH ON UNAS AT SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL Fatih Al Fauzi

Affixation is the use of adding a morpheme or affix to an already existing word to create a new word to help describe its use in a sentence, and there are two types of affixes Derivational and Inflectional. Affixes can found in the various text, in newspaper, magazine and in media online text act. This research is focus on Derivational Affixes analysis on Gap Fill paragraph at UN (National Examination). Analyzing UN is one way to know the extent to which the quality of the UN that we use in the exam national system that we use in the learning system and also have an important role for the teacher and student learning as a reference and to assist student learning. While the result of the study Derivational affixes in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Examination) are –ly (8), un- (1), -ion (1), -ment (1), dis- (1). It shows that have the most frequently appear in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Examination) are suffix –ly as an adverb marker. The word of changing the part of speech that found in gap fill paragraph on UN (National Exam) are : adjective, adverb, noun and verb

This research aims to know the students order thinking skill from their written answer in reading skills. By knowing their order thinking skill, it is used as basic for the teachers to design the learning process which fit to improve students higher order thinking. This research used qualitative design, content analysis, which is analyzed students answer document in reading skill. The data is the students answer in reading skill by using herringbone technique. The data shows that 18 students are in Low Order Thinking Skill (LOTS) in which in making several questions based on WH- Questions they only do the repetition and imitation from the information given, 11 students are in Middle Order Thinking Skill (MOTS) in which they are able to think in different domain, and only 1 student is in Higher Order Thinking Skill (HOTS) in which he can improve and create an idea from the information given.Key words: HOTS, Order Thinking, Reading

English speaking ability has long been considered as one of the most crucial materials for a bilingual program in Islamic Boarding School of Maulana Malik Ibrahim, State Islamic University of Malang. Since students of that Islamic Boarding School are demanded to be able to communicate in English, motivation and training to comprehend in mastering it are needed. However, some students consider speaking as the most difficult one since it needs great courage as well as preparation to produce the language. Either beginner or advanced students participate passively when joining Sobaghul Lughoh program. The researcher is interested conducting a research for Advance class because they are considered having good capability either verbal or oral in English but they seem passive participating in the class. The researcher uses Classroom Action Research (CAR) to analyze and solve the problems faced by the Advance class. Furthermore, the researcher concerns on their speaking participation rather than other skills because speaking is productive skill which can be directly and empirically observed. The result is the students enthused joining the program and participated much in doing the task. Finally, Implementing Task Based Language Teaching (TBLT) instruction in Sobaghul Lughoh Program has showed conclusion that this method is appropriate to be applied. This strategy is able to improve students’ speaking participation in class. Their participation in completing tasks, discussion and conversation shows that they are active and enthusiasm following the program. Key Words: TBLT, Speaking, Sobaghul Lughoh Program

Reading is a cognitive process of decoding symbols in order to construct or derive meaning (reading comprehension). The objective of this study is to know the application of Make a Match Techniqueto improve the students’ reading comprehension at the Eight grade students of MTs Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik and to know whether Make a Match Technique is able to improve the students’ reading comprehension in descriptive text. The study was conducted at MTs Al Fattah Banyuurip Ujungpangkah Gresik. The subject of this study was 23 student. This study used Classroom Action Research (CAR) design. The research used pre-test, post-test and observation checklist.To know the students’ improvement in reading comprehension, the researcher uses instruments are test and observation checklist. From the result observation checklist it shows that teaching learning by using Make a Match technique can improve succesfully the students’ reading comprehension. The average of preliminary test is 56.82, the result of test cycle I is 73.21 and theb result of cycle II is 78.34.

The researcher decide to conduct a research about examining guided note taking method to assist listening skill by the research problem: how can guided note taking can assist their achievement in listening skill at Madrasah Aliyah Arrisalah Curah Kates Ajung. The design in this research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subject of the research is X grade of Aliyah Arrisalah Curah Kates Ajung in the 2018/2019 academic years which consist of 25 students in a class. The research was done on 2 28 February 2019. The data was mainly obtained through test. The test is objective matching from the text. The data was analyzed using formula E = n / N x 100%. The result of the score of the analysis, the percentage of the students who got > 70 was 40% in cycle 1 and 76% in cycle 2. The way that researcher used to assist the students listening comprehension is by modificating audio-visual media. So the guided note taking will help the students organize their idea, focus the energy, create and empty space in braind and make the students be confident. Guided note taking can increase their stock of knowledge to the students.Key Words : Listening Skill, Guided Note Taking Method

The study aims to investigate the implementation of the technique of Reader’s Theatre in the teaching learning process of speaking class at STKIP PGRI Jombang specially at subject of Speaking for Daily Communication. Since The objective of Speaking class is to improve and develop student’s speaking skill fluently, correctly and accurately, the technique of Reader’s Theatre is offered to help students to speak English very well. Students can speak with correct vocabulary, proper pronunciation and good grammar. The subject of the research is students of English department 2017 A and B. The research method isconducted by describing all activities on speaking for daily communication by using Reader’s Theatre. To collect the data, the researcher uses the instrument by observing the condition of the class during the technique of reader’s theatre applied. The result of the research states that Reader’s Theatre can give a possitive activity to students involved in Speaking class. Students can have a good response toward the Reader’s Theatre technique. THE EFFECT OF JUMBLED TEXTS TOWARDS STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN WRITING IN SMPN 3 TANJUNG Yunita Astuti; Tri Setianingsih

The aim of this research was to find out whether jumbled texts have any effects towards students’ ability in writing. This study was experiments research and used pre-test and post-test non-equivalent group design of quasi experimental design. The population of this study was all students of the second grade at SMPN 3 Tanjung and the sample was two classes which consisted of 22 students of each class. To analyze the data this study used descriptive statistic and inferential statistic. The finding of this research showed that the t-test was 3,416 > t-table 1, 682. The mean score of experimental and control group was 760>60,59. It can be concluded that alternative hypothesis was accepted and null hypothesis was rejected and jumbled texts was effective toward students’ ability in writing.Keywords: Jumbled Texts, Ability, Writing

English learning is developing year by year through its method and every aspect in the learning process. The informatics study program has the main aim to develop the students’ intelligence, knowledge, personality, and skills in a workplace for having an independent life in their future. The relevant English learning materials for particular study programs are needed to facilitate the students to achieve good English proficiency. This research is aimed at developing English learning materials for the first semester of Informatics Study Program. The researcher applied Research and Development as the research method. In the research method the researcher implemented five of Borg and Gall’s Research and Development (R&D) stages. Then, those five stages were combined with Kemp’s theory of instructional model to develop and design the English materials, the steps included were: collecting the students’ need, planning, developing the materials, writing the final draft, and trying out the materials. Based on the research finding, the students learn English Learning material includes seven units and in every unit cover three Basic English competence reading, speaking and writing, and also consists of several sections, namely introduction, main lesson and reinforcement.
