Abstract

Passive smokers that exposure to cigarette smoke in their house has been reached 78,4%. Inhaled of cigarette smoke in the room was more dangerous than in an open place. Every puff of cigarette smoke from active smoker contains 1015 of free radicals which can cause oxidative stress. The presence of free radicals will trigger of activation of inflammatory genes, and then they can be activated of endothelial cells, dysfunction, and injury. Oxidative stress also stimulates large production of platelet (thrombogenesis) and followed by excessive formation of fibrin and thrombin. So that can cause thrombus in endothelial tissue, and it subsequently develops into atherosclerosis. This study aimed to describe thrombocytosis as a risk factor for increased of atherosclerosis in passive smokers in Kecamatan Pahandut, Kota Palangka Raya. This study used a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional design. The sample obtained by 45 people with purposive sampling technique with criteria such as respondents were passive smokers, housewives, exposed to cigarette smoke more than five years, no history of the disease, and willing to become respondents. Examination of platelet counts was analyzed by an automatic method using Hematology Analyzer. The results showed that 6.7% of passive smokers had high platelet counts (thrombocytosis). High platelet counts in 6.7% of passive smokers caused by exposure of cigarette smoke from active smokers can endanger passive smoking, especially the risk of atherosclerosis. Therefore, a preventive and educative method for both passive and active smokers are needed to prevent the dangers of cigarette smoke to the risk of atherosclerosis

Abstract

Fish processing by grilled can produce emissions that contribute to pollutants in the air, which contain toxic chemical compounds that can provide short-term and long-term effects on human health. Some studies report a positive relationship between the amount of exposure to air pollution and the platelet index. The research was conducted on the subject of grilled fish sellers in Palangka Raya (73 respondents) and the control was fish food seller without selling grilled fish (33 respondents). Measurement of platelet indices (MPV, PDW, P-LCR, and PCT) used KX300 Hematology Analyzers. The results showed a significant difference in platelet indices for MPV, PDW and P-LCR parameters in the exposed group compared to controls, with values in the exposed group higher than controls and for PCT parameters, there was no significant difference even though the exposure value was higher than the control. The content of harmful chemical compounds present in the smoke of processing grilled fish can increase platelet activation that can lead to inflammation.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus can be a cause of food poisoning in humans. This type of bacteria can produce enterotoxins that cause contaminated food and poisoning in humans. The toxin produced is resistant in high temperatures, although the bacteria die by heating but the resulting toxin will not be damaged and can still change despite freezing or freezing. Staphylococcus aureus is commonly found in high-protein foods such as egg and chicken products. The purpose of this study was to investigate the contamination of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in chicken meat sold in Pasar Besar Kota Palangka Raya in 2018. The examination using MSA media (Mannitol Salt Agar) because MSA media is different selective media to differentiate Staphylococcus aureus with Staphylococcus epidermidis. The results of analysis of chicken meat in Pasar Besar Kota Palangka Raya 20% positive contaminated Staphylococcus aureus bacteria in the first-day sample. In the second day, the sample found 13.3% positive contaminated Staphylococcus aureus bacteria.

Abstract

Housewives living with HIV AIDS are a new trend in the HIV epidemic in Indonesia. Overall heterosexual transmission is the primary mode of transmission that dominates new case findings (69.6%) in 2017. Cumulative frequency of HIV/AIDS is 810 cases in Central Kalimantan. Housewives (19.4%) were the highest group after the private group. The purpose of this study was to look at the psychological determinants of housewives living with HIV (+) in Central Kalimantan Province. The method of this study was an observational analytic cross-sectional study. The population is patients who visit RSUD dr. Sylvanus Palangka Raya, RSUD dr. Murjani Sampit, Sultan Immanudin Pangkalanbun Hospital, and RSUD Dr.H Soemarno S Kuala Kapuas. Samples are excluded if there are psychiatric disorders and death sickness. The results showed that sociodemographic variables such as age, marriage history, ethnicity, education level, employment status, number of children, length of diagnosis and phase of HIV were not the psychological determinants of the respondents (p> 0.05).

Abstract

The results of Riskesdas in 2013 showed that the incidence of anemia in young women was still high at 22.7%. One of the efforts made by the Indonesian government in overcoming the problem of anemia in young women is by distributing iron supplementation tablets (TTD) to school girls. The TTD supplementation program for young women currently does not cover all educational institutions at the junior or senior high school level. This raises the question of whether there are differences in anemia status between schools that have implemented TTD supplementation programs and schools that have not implemented them. The general purpose of this study was to determine the anemia status of iron nutrition in high school students. The specific objectives of the study were to 1) assess the state of anemia in high school students with TTD supplementation program, 2) determine the status of anemia in high school students with non-TTD supplementation program and 3) find out the difference in the state of anemia between both high school students. The sample of this study was taken randomly from two schools in Bandar Lampung, namely SMK 1 as many as 75 people and Al-Azhar High School as many as 72 people. Data processing is carried out with the computer, and a different test is carried out by testing the kai quadratic statistics. The results showed that the incidence of anemia at SMK 1 was 24.0% while at Al-Azhar High School was 43.1%. There was a significant difference between the prevalence of anemia at SMK 1 Al-Azhar High School with a value of p = 0.023. The Health Service is expected to expand the coverage of the TTD program to schools that have not been covered by the TTD supplementation program. The school can participate in providing self-help TTD.

Abstract

Prevalence of productive men smokers in Kalimantan Tengah in 2013 has been reached 64.9% with a mean of smoking about 12.3 cigarettes a day. Cigarette smoke contains 1015 of oxidative free radicals which can cause oxidative stress. It will trigger of activation of inflammatory genes and increase of cytokines release by increasing of leukocytes and activate some of the differential leukocytes. Continual inflammation can cause atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. This study aimed to determine the effects of heavy smoking on white blood cell count and differential leukocyte count in productive men in Kelurahan Tanjung Pinang, Palangka Raya. This study used a descriptive observational method with a cross-sectional design. The sample obtained by 28 people with purposive sampling technique with criteria: men, active smoker, smoking more than ten years, working as a farmer, fish farmer, or laborer, and willing to become a respondent. White blood cell count and differential leukocyte count were analyzed by an automatic method using Hematology Analyzer. The results showed that 3.6% of active smokers had high white blood cell count and others had low white blood cell count (3.6% ). Whereas differential leukocyte count showed that 2 persons had high of eosinophils (7.10%), 5 people had low of eosinophils (17.9%), one person had little of neutrophils (3.6%), 2 persons had high of lymphocytes (7.20%), 10 people had little of lymphocytes (35.7%), and 15 people had high of monocytes (53.6%). To reduce the risks, preventive and educative actions from medical personnel are needed for active smokers and their families.

Abstract

Aspartate aminotransferase (AST) and Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) are enzymes predominantly found in hepatocytes, the increased activity in the serum shows liver damage. The AST / ALT ratio is used as a marker for alcoholic liver disease. This study aims to determine the effects of long-term alcohol consumption on the risk of alcoholic liver disease. This study was a descriptive study, involving 20 alcoholic drinkers aged 25-45 years, had consumed alcohol> 5 years and consumed alcohol every day. Our results showed a significant increase (p <0.05) in AST and ALT values based on age group, duration of consumption and dose. While the ratio of AST / ALT, a significant increase was found in the age group and period. In alcohol drinkers, the AST value is higher than ALT. The AST / ALT ratio for heavy drinkers is 1.64. Conclusion: Alcohol-consuming subjects in our study, especially heavy drinkers, were suspected of having a risk of alcoholic liver disease because most had an AST / ALT ratio > 1,5.
