Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini menganalisis tesis/disertasi tentang sejarah pendidikan Islam yang diajukan ke Pascasarjana UIN SU Medan. Penelitian menyimpulkan bahawa alasan utama memilih tema sejarah pendidikan Islam adalah kekaguman akan capaian masa lalu dan keyakinan kuat bahwa sejarah relevan terhadap pendidikan Islam masa sekarang. Mayoritas tesis/disertasi adalah tentang topik pendidikan Islam modern (69.4%) dalam setting Indonesia (66.7%) dengan topik yang paling populer adalah lembaga pendidikan Islam (44.4%). Mayoritas tesis/disertasi (69.5%) telah menggunakan metode sejarah secara konsisten, dengan referensi paling banyak adalah Kuntowijoyo dan Dudung Abdurrahman. Mayoritas mutlak (80.5%) telah merujuk kepada sumber-sumber primer dalam pengumpulan data sejarah. Meskipun semua sepakat tentang relevansi sejarah, hanya 10% tesis/disertasi yang secara khusus menjelaskan relevansi penelitiannya terhadap pendidikan Islam kontemporer, itu pun masih pada tataran teoretis. Karenanya, pemanfaatan temuan dari tesis/disertasi tersebut secara praktis masih memerlukan langkah lanjutan, yakni melalui proses modeling atau eksperimentasi.Abstract: The History of Islamic Education as a Theme for Student's Final Thesis at Postgraduate Level of Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara. This study surveys theses on history of Islamic education, submitted to Graduate Studies State Islamic University Medan both for master and doctorate levels. The study concludes that the main reasons to study the topic are admiration of past achievements and strong belief in its relevance to contemporary Islamic education. The majority of the theses concentrate on modern time topics (69.4%) of Indonesian Islamic education (66.7%) with the most popular topic being Islamic education institutions (44.4%). The majority of the theses (69.5%) have consistently used historical method. The most frequently cited works on historical methodology are those of Kuntowijoyo and Dudung Abdurrahman. An absolute majority (80.5%) of the theses refers to primary sources related to their topics. Despite expressive believe in the relevance of history, only 10% of the theses allocate special segment to explain the relevance of their study findings, albeit in rather theoretical tones. As such efforts are needed to further use these study findings into a more practical ways, probably through modeling and experimentation.Keywords: history, Islamic education, post graduate

Abstract

Abstrak: Studi ini membahas perspektif Syiah Imamiyah tentang dimensi tauhid. Dengan pendekatan tafsir al-Qur’an, tulisan ini mengungkapkan temuan bahwa Al-Qur’an sebagai pedoman bagi umat manusia memuat ayat-ayat tauhid yang merupakan asas dan dasar kajian Islam. Ayat-ayat ini diklasifikasi oleh ulama Syiah ke dalam dua kelompok. Kelompok pertama, ayat-ayat yang memuat tentang tauhid teoretis; pemikiran konsep serta pemahaman yang mentauhidkan Allah swt. baik dalam hal zat, sifat maupun perbuatan-Nya. Kelompok kedua adalah ayat-ayat yang mengulas tentang tauhid praktis atau yang disebut dengan tindakan atau amal yang berlandaskan tauhid teoretis. Pada gilirannya baik tauhid teoretis maupun tauhid praktis memiliki cabang dan variannya masing-masing.Kata Kunci: Syiah Imamiyah, tauhid, al-Qur’an Abstract: Shia Imamiyah Perspective on Theology. This study examines the Shiite Imamiyah school of thought on the dimension of monotheism in the Qur’an. This study is a literature study where the works of Shiite scholars are analyzed by content analysis methods. This study is hoped to become as sufficient information about monotheism according to the Shiah school as explained by scholars of Shi’ism. This study proposes that there are two dimensions of monotheism in the Shia school, namely theoretical monotheism and practical dimensions. The theoretical dimension of monotheism constitutes three categories which include first, substance monotheism, second monotheism of character, and third, monotheism of action. In addition, the practical dimension in monotheism is divided into three namely monotheism in worship (tawhîd ‘ibâdah), monotheism in obedience and observance, and monotheism in acquiring comfort and assistance. Keywords: Shia Imamiyah, theology, Qur’an

Abstract

Abstrak: Studi ini mengkaji konsep pemimpin dalam Islam. Studi ini merupakan studi kepustakaan. Data diperoleh dari kitab-kitab tafsir untuk menemukan bagaimana hakikat kepemimpinan dalam Islam. Data dianalisis dengan metode analisis isi. Secara umum, studi ini membahas kriteria pemimpin dalam Islam dan konsep pemimpin perempuan dalam Islam. Beriman, memiliki visi dan program kerja, mampu menjalankan tugas, diterima oleh umat, tidak diktator dan rendah hati. Dalam konteks pemimpin perempuan, tidak ada kesepakatan apakah perempuan boleh menjadi pemimpin. Banyak pemikir di era modern yang tidak dapat menerima pendapat para ulama klasik yang melarang perempuan menjadi pemimpin. Studi ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi dan inspirasi bagi kajian-kajian tentang gender di era saat ini. Kata Kunci: Islam, pemimpin, perempuan, Alquran, hadis Abstract: Depicting Leadership Discourse in Islamic Perspective. This study examines the concept of leader in Islambased on the Qur’anic interpretation. This study is a literature study. Data is obtained from the books of Qur’anic exegeses to find out how the nature of leadership in Islam. Data is analyzed by content analysis method. In general, this study discusses the criteria for leaders in Islam as well as the concept of women leaders. It is found that amongst the criteria are having faith or believer, having a vision and working program, being able to carry out tasks, being accepted by the people, not being dictatorial and humble. In the context of women leaders, there is no agreement on whether women may become leaders. Many thinkers in the modern era cannot accept the opinions of classical scholars who forbid women to become leaders. This study is expected to contribute and inspire studies on gender in the contemporary era. Keywords: Islam, leadership, women, Qur’an, hadith

Abstract

Abstrak: Studi ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kehidupan dan perjuangan Ismail Banda dalam rangka merebut dan mempertahankan kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia. Studi ini dilatari oleh sedikitnya informasi tentang perjuangan Ismail Banda sehingga membuatnya kurang dikenal secara menyeluruh bahkan oleh penerusnya di lingkungan Al Washliyah sendiri. Studi ini merupakan studi biografis di mana data diperoleh melalui studi kepustakaan. Data berupa dokumen dianalisis dengan metode analisis isi. Studi ini mengajukan temuan bahwa Ismail Banda adalah ulama Mandailing yang terpelajar sekaligus pejuang dimana selama di luar negeri ia belajar di pusat intelektual tradisi Sunni di awal abad ke-20: Madrasah Shaulatiyah dan Universitas al-Azhar, kemudian memanfaatkan segala peluang untuk memimpin perjuangan kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia di Mesir melalui Perhimpunan Pemuda Indonesia dan Malaya (Perpindom). Studi ini menyajikan elaborasi lebih luas terhadap biografi Ismail Banda berdasarkan sumber-sumber baru dan terpercaya.Kata Kunci: Ismail Banda, Al Washliyah, politik, kolonialisme, Timur Tengah, IndonesiaAbstract: Migration for the Sake of the Republic: The Life and Struggle of Ismail Banda (1909-1951). This study aims to examine the life and struggle of Ismail Banda in order to seize and defend the independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Amid the achievement of Ismail Banda, he was out of the attention of researchers that make him less well known overall even by his successors in Al Washliyah's own environment. This study is a bio-biographical study in which data is obtained through literature and library study. Data in the form of documents were analyzed by content analysis method. The study finds that Ismail Banda was a well-educated Mandailing scholar and fighter who during his overseas studies at the intellectual center of the Sunni tradition in the early 20th century: Madrasah Shaulatiyah and al-Azhar Universitytook advantage of all opportunities to lead the Republic's struggle for Indonesian independence in Egypt through the Indonesian Youth Association and Malaya (Perpindom). Abstract

Abstrak: Studi ini bertujuan untuk menelaah gerakan religius dan politik Abdurrahman Sjihab. Sebagai studi biografis, studi ini memanfaatkan sumber-sumber tertulis yang dianalisis dengan metode analisis isi. Studi ini penting dilakukan mengingat tidak ada kajian akademik tentang Abdurrahman Sjihab padahal ia merupakan salah satu pemuka agama Islam yang berjuang di level lokal dan nasional, dan yang terpenting adalah bahwa ia merupakan pejuang kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia. Studi ini mengajukan temuan bahwa Abdurrahman Sjihab berkontribusi terhadap usaha merebut, mempertahankan dan mengisi kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia. Dalam lapangan sosial keagamaan, ia bersama rekan-rekannya mendirikan Al Jam’iyatul Washliyah yang bergerak dalam bidang pendidikan, dakwah dan sosial, dan usaha ini relatif sukses menyiapkan sumber daya Muslim yang militan. Dalam lapangan sosial politik, ia atas nama Al Washliyah membina relasi dan membangun koordinasi dengan pemuka-pemuka Islam di level lokal dan nasional dalam rangka memperjuangkan dan mengisi kemerdekaan Indonesia, dan untuk itulah ia menjadi politisi Masjumi, anggota Komite Nasional Indonesia Pusat (KNIP) dan anggota Dewan Perwakilan Rakyat Sementara (DPRS). Studi ini diharapkan dapat menambah khazanah biografis tokoh-tokoh Muslim di awal-awal kemerdekaan Indonesia. Kata Kunci: Abdurrahman Sjihab, Al Washliyah, Masjumi, Sumatera Timur Abstract: Mandailing Ulama at the Beginning of the 20th Century: Abdurrahman Sjihab's Religious and Political Movement (1910-1955). This study aims to examine the religious and political movements of Abdurrahman Sjihab. This study utilizes written sources that are then analyzed by content analysis methods. Despite the important role played by Abdurrahman Sjihab as one of the leaders of the Islamic religion who fought at the local and national level as a freedom fighter for the Republic of Indonesia, there has not been a study that covers his biobiography. This study finds that Abdurrahman Sjihab contributed to the efforts to fight, defend and contribute to the independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In the socio-religious field, he and his colleagues founded Al Jam'iyatul Washliyah, which is engaged in education, preaching and social affairs, and this effort was relatively successful in preparing militant Muslim resources. In the social political field, he on behalf of Al Washliyah fostered relations and established coordination with Islamic leaders at the local and national levels in the context of fighting for and filling Indonesian independence, and for this reason he became a Masjumi politician, a member of the Central Indonesian National Committee (KNIP) and member of the Provisional People's Representative Council (DPRS). Abstract

Abstrak: Hukum Acara Islam: Analisis Kitâb al-Qâdhî ila al-Qâdhî dalam Literatur Hukum Islam. Telah jamak diterima di sementara kalangan ilmuwan bahwa hukum Islam tidak memiliki prosedur, dan memiliki jejak akar kemunculannya pada sistem yang dikenal dalam sistem hukum sekuler. Esai ini menganalisis asal usul gagasan prosedur hukum dengan menelusuri konsep awal yang ditemukan dalam genre Kitâb al-Qâdhî ilâ al-Qâdhî yang tergabung dalam literatur hukum fuqaha' atau ahli hukum Islam. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menganalisis materi hukum pada surat hakim kepada hakim lain yang ditemukan dalam karya-karya berbagai ulama hukum Islam. Temuan penelitian ini mengimplikasikan bahwa meskipun ada penyederhanaan beberapa ilmuwan pada hukum pembuktian Islam, ada diskusi yang sangat kompleks tentang masalah ini dalam karya ulama hukum Islam. Selanjutnya, catatan sejarah hukum pembuktian dalam Islam ini telah menjadi bagian integral dari praktik sosial dan hukum pada masa awal, yang sejarahnya dapat dianggap sebagai konsepsi awal hukum pembuktian dalam Islam.Kata Kunci: Hukum Islam, prosedur, bukti, dokumenter, sejarah hukumAbstract: It has been commonly accepted amongst some scholars that Islamic law lacks of procedure and that it had indebted greatly to the system known in the secular system of law. This essay attempts to analyze the origin of the idea of the law procedure by tracing the very early concept found in the genre of Kitâb al-Qâdhî ilâ al-Qâdhî (a letter form one judge to another judge) incorporated in the legal literature of fuqahâ’ or Islamic jurisprudents. The study is a qualitative research by in depth analysis on legal materials on the letter of a judge to another judge found in the works of various Islamic law scholars. The finding of this study implies that despite the over-simplication of some scholars on the Islamic law of evidence, there exist a very complex discussion of the issue in the works of Islamic law scholars. It is conceivable to assert that this historical record of law of evidence in Islam had become an integral part of the social and legal practices of the early time that could be regarded as the early inception of law of evidence in Islam. Keywords: Islamic law, procedure, evidence, documentary, legal history

Abstract

Abstrak:  Studi ini tentang respons Muhammadiyah di Indonesia terhadap ordonansi guru tahun 1905 dan 1925. Melalui metode sosiologis-historis, peneliti menemukan konsistensi sikap Muhammadiyah terhadahap penghapusan aturan tersebut. Muhammadiyah cenderung lebih lunak dalam merespons ordonansi guru 1905, karena hanya mengeluarkan “Motie Persarikatan”. Sementara terhadap ordonansi guru 1925, Muhammadiyah menunjukkan respons yang lebih radikal melalui upaya-upaya penyadaran dan kritik secara terus menerus terhadap pemerintah kolonial Hindia Belanda. Temuan studi ini memperlihatkan keanekaragaman respons Muhammadiyah terhadap ordonansi guru 1905 dan 1925, adakalanya kooperatif namun terkadang bertentangan dengan Belanda. Kata Kunci: Muhammadiyah, Indonesia, Ordonansi Guru Abstract: Muhammadiyah Response Towards Teacher Ordinance at the Turn of the 20th Century Indonesia. This paper studies the Muhammadiyah's response in Indonesia to the teachers' ordinances in 1905 and 1925. Through the sociological-historical method, the researcher found consistency in the Muhammadiyah's attitude regarding the abolition of these rules. Muhammadiyah tends to be more flexible in responding to the 1905 teacher ordinance, because it only issued a "Motie Persarikatan". As for the 1925 teacher ordinance, however, Muhammadiyah showed a more radical response through continuous awareness and criticism of the Dutch East Indies colonial government. The findings of this study show the diversity of Muhammadiyah's responses to the Teacher Ordinances of 1905 and 1925, on the one hand cooperative but sometimes in conflict with the Netherlands on the other. Keywords: Muhammadiyah, Indonesia, teacher ordinance

Abstract

Abstrak: Studi ini membahas tradisi menulis ilmuwan Muslim Nusantara sejak zaman kerajaan hingga masa kontemporer. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan historis, peneliti mengajukan temuan bahwa aktor utama dalam penyebaran ajaran Islam dilakukan oleh ulama dengan menuangkan ide-ide mereka dalam karya-karya tulis. Karya-karya tersebut sebagian berbentuk naskah dalam berbagai cabang ilmu pengetahuan seperti tasawuf, fikih, tauhid, sejarah bahkan sains. Keberadaan naskah-naskah tersebut menggambarkan tingginya kualitas intelektual ilmuwan Muslim Nusantara. Fenomena menulis di kalangan ilmuwan Muslim (ulama) ternyata tidak berhenti di satu periode saja. Ilmuwan Muslim yang lahir belakangan juga secara sadar melanjutkan tradisi yang telah ditanamkan oleh para pendahulu. Kata Kunci: ilmiah, tulisan, manuskrip, ulama, Nusantara Abstract: Scientific Dimension of Muslim Scholars in Nusantara. This study discusses the writing inclination of Nusantara Muslim scholars from the imperial era to the contemporary period. Using a historical approach, the researcher proposes the finding that the main actors in the dissemination of Islamic teachings are carried out by scholars by expressing their ideas in written works. The works are partly in the form of manuscripts in various branches of science, such as Sufism, Jurisprudence, monotheism, history and even science. The existence of these texts illustrates the high quality of intellectual Muslim archipelago scientists. The author insists that the phenomenon of writing among Muslim scientists (scholars) has even gone beyond just one period. Muslim scholars who were born in the succeeding period also consciously continued the tradition that had been instilled by their predecessors. Keywords: scientific, works, manuscript, scholars, Nusantara

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini menampilkan latar belakang kehidupan, peranan historis dan pengaruh H. Rivai Abdul Manap Nasution (1922-1989) dalam bidang pendidikan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian sejarah dengan memfokuskan pada tokoh tertentu. Penelitian ini memadukan data dokumen dan kepustakaan dengan data lapangan melalui wawancara dan observasi. Dengan analisis sejarah, penelitian ini menemukan bahwa wujud nyata peranan Rivai Abdul Manap dalam memajukan pendidikan Islam terlihat dari keberadaan Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI). TPI telah menjadi jaringan lembaga pendidikan Islam yang sangat penting di Sumatera Utara sepanjang tahun 1950an hingga tahun 1980an. Setelah ia wafat, partisipasi TPI mengalami penurunan meskipun hingga sekarang masih ada sejumlah lembaga pendidikan yang tetap eksis. Partisipasi utama TPI adalah penyebarannya yang sangat banyak menyentuh wilayah pedesaan, khususnya di bawah naungan perkebunan. Dengan jaringan tersebut, TPI menyediakan pendidikan bagi penduduk yang benar-benar membutuhkan. Dengan TPI, kiprah dan kontribusi Rivai Abdul Manap dalam bidang pendidikan Islam akan terus berlangsung.Kata Kunci: Sumatera Utara, pendidikan Islam, Rivai Abdul Manap, Taman Pendidikan Islam Abstract: The Movement H. Rivai Abdul Manap Nasution’s Educational Thought. This article deals with the life, relevance and influence of H. Rivai Abdul Manap Nasution (1922-1989) in the field of education. This research is basically a historical study but with some measure of biographical approach. The data was obtained from relevant documents, interviews with heirs, as well as field observations to support necessary information. Rivai plays multiple important roles in education but the most significant of which is undoubtedly to be found in Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI; literally, Garden of Islamic Education). TPI organized a very important chain of Islamic education institutions from the 1950s until the 1980s. The relevance of TPI is unique in that its education institutions spread over large number of villages, especially those included in the state plantation in North Sumatra. By not just focusing to serve big cities, TPI provides education to those really in need. Upon Rivai’s death, TPI’s contribution tends to lessen. Nevertheless, TPI continues to exist and manage some education activities to the present. Abstract

Abstrak: Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap gerakan pembaruan pendidikan Sayyid Usman dalam bidang pendidikan Islam. Berdasarkan metode analisis isi terhadap sumber-sumber yang ada, artikel ini mengajukan temuan bahwa ide pembaruan Sayyid Usman terdapat dalam kitabnya yang berjudul Âdâb al-Insân. Kitab ini memuat refleksi yang kuat tentang dasar kemampuan sikap adaptasi penulisnya yang untuk konteks saat itu berhadapan dengan pemerintah Kolonial Belanda yang diskriminatif terhadap pendidikan Islam. Sikap adaptasi yang ditunjukkan Sayyid Usman sesuai dengan teori komunikasi antar budaya yang terangkai dalam lima faktor: komunikasi personal, komunikasi internal satu budaya, komunikasi internal berbeda budaya, penerimaan budaya dan kecenderungan perilaku. Studi ini memperlihatkan bahwa bahwa pembaruan tidak terlepas dari kecakapan adaptasi dengan basis keilmuan yang kokoh. Hal itu juga semakin menguatkan pandangan bahwa pembaruan sangat erat dengan kekayaan tradisi intelektual sebagaimana telah ditampilkan oleh Sayyid Usman. Kata Kunci: ulama, Nusantara, pendidikan, Âdâb al-Insân, Sayyid Usman  Abstract: The Renewal of Islamic Education in the 19th Century Indonesia: Exploring Sayyid Usman’s Thoughts. This article aims to uncover Sayyid Usman's educational reform movement in the field of Islamic education. Based on the method of content analysis of available sources, this article proposes that the idea of the renewal of Sayyid Usman is contained in his book entitled Âdâb al-Insân. This book contains a strong reflection on the basic ability of the adaptation attitude of the author who for the context at that time faced the Dutch Colonial government which was discriminatory against Islamic education. The attitude of adaptation shown by Sayyid Usman is in accordance with the theory of intercultural communication arranged in five factors: personal communication, internal communication of one culture, internal communication of different cultures, cultural acceptance and behavioral tendencies. This study shows that renewal is inseparable from adaptation skills with a solid scientific basis. It also reinforces the view that renewal is very closely linked to the wealth of intellectual traditions as shown by Sayyid Usman. Keywords: ulama, Nusantara, Islamic education, Âdâb al-Insân, Sayyid Usman
