Abstract

Ballast water exchange is made by a vessel from one port to another port can cause a problem. The ballast water exchange can be harmful microorganisms that shifts will be a predator for the ecosystem of the intended recipients. To prevent this, IMO issued several rules regarding the disposal of water ballast, ballast water i.e. issued a ship must be in clean condition or there should be a treatment first before being dumped. Various alternative treatments ever used to be able to satisfy this rule. In this final task, developed one of the alternative treatment with using chemicals activated carbon with the object of study of ship cruise route with SINAR SUMBA Singapore – Surabaya and time planning is designed for12 hours. The selection of the method of test samples conducted in the laboratories chosen to know the applications the use of activated carbon to water ballasts of Surabaya and Singapore is in compliance with the specified standards. Then the next design planning systems or designs are suitable for use on the ship. From the results of the study showed that by using activated carbon- filtration, activated carbon the water turned out to be able to reduce the number of microorganisms such as E. Coli, Vibrio Cholerae, and Intestinal Enterococci in accordance with the IMO standards. Based on the results of the laboratory activated carbon filter design then the water ballast can be realized.

Abstract

The port is one of the supporting infrastructures for sea-transportation carrying goods and passengers. The function of port is important in supporting the transportation system to develop economic, social, and eduaction with sea-trading as booster. Crane is device which use to lift or move heavy loads and commonly was used in ports for container loading - unloading process. This research will create automatic stacking crane prototype with an Arduino Mega 2560 as controller. There is a lack of this design is the incoming voltage to the motor sourced from this microcontroller module is 5 V. In hence, the spindle motor is not optimal. In addition, there are still many input response procedure was not appropriate.

Abstract

This study discusses about safety on board especially during fire condition. During fire, all passengers and crew had to beevacuated into safe place. The study observe at 1200 GT passenger ships, a typical ship which have small dimension vessel characteristic but able to carry passenger more than four hundred persons and also could containt cargo. When the ship was on fire at any circumstances that requires passengers need to be evacuated, it’s obvious that there will be a buildup of passengers when passing through stairs and corridors. The calculation use to estimate evacuation time required based on the IMO guidelines. Studies continued by creating evacuation simulation using Agent-Based Modeling, a simulation modeling that assume human being as an agent that has characteristics resemble to real state of motion. The comparation between the two methods, calculation and simulation are both using two scenarios, day and night conditions. Result show that the simulation generates evacuation time shorter than the calculation method. In the numerical calculation takes 689 seconds and 1595 seconds in day and night conditions, while in the simulation process takes 548 seconds and 1374 seconds in day and night conditions sequentially. This studies also followed by fire modeling study that aims to determine the spread of heat and smoke produced from fire. On the condition of fire, smokewords. production will interfere passengers in the evacuation process. The evacuation time becomes longer and estimates the potential victims affected by fire.

Abstract

Subsea pipeline is a transportation infrastructure of oil and gas as an alternative for ship tanker. The uneven topography surface of the sea floor resulting the pipe undergoes free span. The free span is a condition endured by the pipe where the pipe position has  distance or gap with the seabed supported by two pivot. The free span is at risk of experiencing a vibration caused by the presence of dynamic load that is current and the wave. The vibration that occurs is the impact of the presence of the phenomenon of Vortex Induced Vibration (VIV). The Phenomenon Of VIV occur on a cylindrical component caused by ocean currents, causing the occurrence of vibration by the movement of fluid on the pipe so that it raises the vortex at the rear of the direction of oncoming flow. One way to dampen or reduce the impact of VIV is by adding suppresion device. VIV suppression device is a tool that is installed on the pipeline on offshore piping installationcthat serves to dampen or reduce the impact of VIV. One of the simulations used to know the characteristics of a fluid is to use (CFD) Computational Fluid Dynamic. With the addition of suppression device can add the rest of the operating time on a free span of affected VIV, on the condition of free span critical exposed VIV (Vortex Induced Vibration value) has a life time on plain pipe 44.21 years, on pipe with 53.09 years and Fairing on the pipe with the Helical strike 52.95 year.

Abstract

This paper concern about design ACOS with PLC system. The supply of electricity will move from the main generator to the battery when the main generator lost one phase, and the power supply will switch to the emergency generator when the voltage in accordance with the emergency generator working voltage AC electrical equipment on board is 380VAC. Electricity supply shall not move directly from the emergency generator to the main generator but to the battery first to prevent damage to the AC electrical equipment on board.  Transport time for the system for 30 seconds ACOS equipment in accordance with the ICC and SOLAS regulations which require the transfer of under 45 seconds. ACOS equipment can be used in real conditions on the ship because it has phase failure, under voltage and over voltage protection and a relay as an indication for the transfer of command power supply automatically.

Abstract

In the field of transportation, ship is relatively cheap then others transportation. However, the ship still has constraints on speed and fuel consumption. Therefore, the ship has many variations of shape to achieve optimal condition. For example the body of ships with double hulls (catamaran) or three (trimaran), that using foil to make ship can have a smaller resistance to achieve optimal efficiency. The purpose of this research in order to plan the maximum foil shape which can produce high force of buoyance on the catamaran boat (25 meters) and also to determine the type of hydrofoil that produces maximum buoyance force using CFD method.

Abstract

International Maritime Organization (IMO) has recommended the implementation of Automatic Identification System (AIS) to improve the safety of navigation at marine traffic area. Based on regulation, IMO requires AIS to be fitted aboard all ships of 300 gross tonnage and upwards engaged on international voyages, cargo ships of 500 gross tonnage and upwards not engaged on international voyages and all passenger ships irrespective of size. The function of the AIS is to make communication between ship to ship and communication between ship to the port or land area. In this study, the study area is the Malacca Strait. Malacca Straits is the strait categorized as high risk level. Malacca straits is also busy area for maritime transportation because it is an area for international transportation lines. Many captains feel anxious and cautiously when passes through the strait. AIS receiver was used in this study which has been installed at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia by Kobe University Japan. Using AIS receiver, the current condition of the ship in the Malacca Straits area can be monitored properly. In addition, the data recorded on the AIS receiver can be used for research to enhance safety of navigation.

Abstract

Electric propulsion is the ship system using propulsion motor to replace performance of main engine. The application of diesel engine as propulsion system have some problems and weaknesses such as diesel engine unability to operate when submersible vessel is operating under sea. To overcome that problems in submersible vessel, alternative solution of ship propulsion is required. DC Motor can be used as this alternative solution. Submersible vessel use electric propulsion system with DC Motor because DC Motor has advantages of easy rotation setting and does not cause noise when submersible vessel is diving. This bachelor thesis will study the application of DC Motor as an electric propulsion system on submersible vessel with length 59,57 m in series and parallel circuit by simulation using MATLAB software. The simulation data obtained are rotation and torque of DC Motor. From these simulation, it can be concluded that parallel circuit rotation is greater than series circuit rotation. It caused the greater speed and lower power in parallel circuit.
