Abstract

What impact has the spread of the covid-19 virus had upon research programs in universities? The virus has been resistant to government measures to restrict its spread and the resulting health crisis has led to an economic crisis which is impacting every part of the global economy. Research enterprise has been affected in many ways particularly as research resources have been diverted into medical and strategic crisis response. This paper describes the impact of the pandemic in Australia on research departments of universities and analyses the implications of this impact for researchers and writers. It draws attention to the way research commissions from government departments and grants from research funding bodies are redirecting research funds to covid related projects and away from the tradition pre-covid priorities. Finally, it describes ways that research departments and individual researchers can adjust to the new normal in the research environment

Abstract

Along with the rapid growth of ICT, many schools offer ICT-based courses or programs. This study aimed to investigate the implementation of ICT-based elementary school in Indonesia focusing on the curriculum content, the strategies for integrating ICT curriculum into national curriculum, and the challenges they faced in running the school. Taking the case at SD ICT Al Abidin Surakarta, Indonesia, this study employed a descriptive qualitative method by conducting interview, observation, and document analysis. The result showed that the ICT curriculum included coding as the main skill by using several applications namely Code.org, Scratch Jr., Kodular, and Tinkercad.com. There were also several supporting skills taught namely rapid typing, hardware knowledge, basic Microsoft Office, graphic design, and ICT unplugged. They arranged the national curriculum content first and then added ICT content into daily learning activities. The challenges in running ICT school include the difficulty in convincing parents about the benefits of learning ICT skills, the absence of ICT school as a model in Indonesian context, and the limitedness of ICT teachers in the school. To solve it, they regularly conducted socialization to parents about ICT through seminar and social media campaign. The limitedness of ICT teachers was solved by providing regular training for class teachers to learn about ICT so they could teach ICT as well whenever needed. This study implies that ICT skills can be taught since early age and it can be integrated to formal education. For that purpose, it requires adequate learning facilities, skilled teachers, and mutual coordination with parents.

Abstract

In the Covid-19 pandemic, children's social skills are underdeveloped. It happens because the learning system requires children no longer to interact with peers. Thus, they tend to play alone by using a cellphone and not looking for friends to play with and learn together. For this reason, this study aimed to determine the impact of online and offline learning on the social development of early childhood during the Covid-19 pandemic at the Pembina Lengayang State Kindergarten. This type of research used descriptive quantitative methods. The sampling technique used was the cluster sampling technique, namely the area sampling technique for determining the sample if the area to be studied was very large. Data were collected using observation, interviews, and documentation and analyzed using descriptive statistics with the help of SPSS for window 23. Based on the frequency test results through SPSS 23, out of 15 children, 14 children were classified as not good (93.3%), and one child was classified as good (6.7%). Meanwhile, the offline learning results revealed that out of 15 children, 100% of children were in the classification of not good social development. Then, there was no significant difference between the children's social development results through online and offline learning in the significance test. From the t-test or hypothesis testing results, it was found that the value of sig 2-tailed on children's social development both online and offline was 0.05. It indicates that Ha1 and Ha2 were accepted. In other words, there was an impact of online and offline learning on the social development of children at the Pembina Lengayang State Kindergarten.

Abstract

This research was motivated by students' low mathematical reasoning ability in elementary schools and the demands of numeracy literacy through the minimum competency assessment (AKM) program launched by the government, requiring students to improve their reasoning abilities by applying a metacognitive approach. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of the metacognitive approach in improving students' mathematical reasoning abilities on the material of the spatial structure. The method used in this study was an experimental research method with a quasi-experimental approach, with a sample size of 59 students (31 students in the control class and 28 students in the experimental class), with a pretest-posttest-only control group design. The results obtained from the calculation of the independent sample t-test revealed a t-count of 0.356, less than a t-table of 2.002. It indicates no difference in students' mathematical reasoning ability between the experimental and control classes. Thus, the metacognitive learning approach did not significantly affect the mathematical reasoning ability of students in sixth grade of State Elementary School of Pamulang 01. In other words, it can be said that the metacognitive learning approach for students at State Elementary School of Pamulang 01 was not appropriate for learning mathematics. The results of this study are expected to be useful to related parties who can use it, such as school principals, teachers, parents, students, and further researchers.

Abstract

The change in learning from what was originally face-to-face to distance learning and then switched to limited face-to-face learning made students need to adapt to all the provisions in the learning process. It then impacts the student's responsible character. This study, therefore, aims to discuss the process of forming the student responsibility character through the operant conditioning type in limited face-to-face learning activities. The research method used was qualitative with a narrative approach model. This study’s subjects were the principal, a fifth-grade homeroom teacher, and nine fifth-grade students of State Elementary School of 1 Barongan. Besides, data collection techniques employed were interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity was tested by triangulation of sources and data collection techniques in the study. Data analysis techniques utilized were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. This study’s results highlighted those changes in the learning system impacted the student responsibility character; thus, there is a need for the formation of the responsibility character. The formation of the responsibility character will be more substantial if given direct reinforcement (Operant Conditioning Theory). Operant conditioning consists of two main concepts: reinforcement and punishment. Reinforcement is divided into positive reinforcement (such as attention, approval, and appreciation) and negative reinforcement (e.g., reducing material and giving assignment pause). Meanwhile, punishments encompass reprimands, emphasis, and additional assignments.
