Village tourism in Indonesia is known as desa wisata which in English means tourism village. Gramatically the right one is the village tourism. That is why the two terms (wisata desa and desa wisata) is used synonimously in Indonesian context. This qualitative study found that the substance is that the village tourism is a business run by local villagers. So that, such kind of tourism is the one with the basic of community-based tourism or CBT. In Bali, the tourism itself as well as the CBT is a practice of paradigm which is popularly known as tri hita karana or THK. THK itself is a very basic concept in Bali which includes the relationships among God (parhyangan), people (pawongan), and environment (palemahan). The success of the village tourism depends on the succes of the THK implementation in such a tourism.

Abstract

The concept of mass tourism has two seasons namely high season and low season to determine the number of tourist visits each year. Therefore the tourism industry tries to conduct a vigorous promotion by carrying out activities that can bring tourists to stay in one tourist destination. One of the activities that entrepreneurs do in the low season is to conduct activities called MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions, and Exhibitions). This research uses qualitative analysis technique by applying the participatory principle involving MICE stakeholders, destination manager, travel agent managers, and tourists. Ubud Village as a tourist destination which has potential for MICE activities has not had a convention bureau. This is due to the characteristics of the tourists who come to Ubud and the needs required by the tourism industry managers which are different from other tourist destinations in Bali such as Badung regency and Denpasar municipality. During this time, the implementation of activities of MICE is dominated by incentives tourism activities (56.57%), exhibitions (31.72%), and meetings (11.71%). The SWOT results concluded that Ubud Village is still S > W and O ≥ T thus requiring an internal consolidation, but seeing O ≥ T, has potential for further development. Development strategy were using grand strategy which make the results such as growth, dominance, and maximum investment.

Abstract

Mount Agung in Karangasem Regency is one of the volcanoes in Bali. This mountain is in the path of the Pacific Ring of Fire. Towards the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, the mountain which is highly purified by the Balinese Hindu community are erupted. Although the eruptions were not as large as in 1963, thousands of people during 2017 were displaced not only around Karangasem Regency but also in some others in Bali. This qualitative study found that, until the eruption in 2017 and 2018, Mount Agung is said to be still in a state of disaster. For that reason, there are still residents who reside less than 4 kilometers from the peak of Mount Agung lived in refugee camps. Nevertheless, in general the problem of evacuation can be said to have been going well.
