ABSTRACTThis study aimed at examining the types and the function of codes switching found in Indonesian Modern Literature Syafrina Siregar‟s novel „Dengan Hati‟. A review of related literature in code switching were provided for the analysis of the data. The data were taken from the conversation among the characters in this novel. This study is categorized as descriptive qualitative with content analysis. The finding showed that intersentential are dominantly used. While the function of code switching referred to cultural identity.

This study was conducted to know whether there was any significant difference in the students‟ achievement in writing a descriptive text between those who are taught with “Task Based Learning and Teaching (TBLT)” and those who are taught without “Task Based Learning and Teaching (TBLT). The population of this study was taken from all of the total number of the tenth year students from X1 to X4 in SMA N 01 Kandang serang, Pekalongan in Academic year 2013/2014. The numbers of population are 85 students. Meanwhile, the samples of the study were taken from X1 class with 21 students as an experimental group and X2 class with 21 students as a control group. The experimental research was carried out using quasi-experimental design and to analyze the data independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test of SPSS program was used. Based on the analyses, the significant value of post-test score using independent t-test both of the group showed 0,001 lower than 0,05. In addition, it was reinforced by the comparison between t-value and t-table which showed t value > t table (6,083 >1,68) so that working hypothesis is accepted and null hypothesis is rejected. It could be concluded that there was significant improvement of students‟ writing mastery using TBLT.

This article constitutes a discussion about the students’ reading interest at FKIP of the University of Pasir Pengaraian. It is a research report triggered from the data showed that reading was an activity disliked by Indonesian people. This reaserch can be categoried as descriptive quantitative research. In collecting data, researcher used questionnaires, observation and interviews. The result of research showed that the reading interest of FKIP-UPP students can be categorized into low level. Factors influencing students’ reading interest involving internal and external. By conducting this research, it is expected to give contribution to this institution to increase students’ reading interest.

This study explains and concludes that the existence of teaching writing for junior high school students using Numbered Head Together (NHT). According to some experts, learning in groups (Numbered Head Together) also offers a different outcome judging from the initial abilities possessed by students. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Numbered Head Together strategy and the ability to write English. This study used an experimental method conducted at SMP Nurul Falah Pekanbaru, Riau with a sample of 60 students in the second grade students of SMP Nurul Falah Pekanbaru. The results of this study are; (There is a significant effect of the use of the Numbered Head Together strategy of students on the ability to write English students in the second grade students of SMP Nurul Falah Pekanbaru Riau. Which is proven that if, t is a large observation of t table then there is an effect of the strategy. For the results obtained values from t observation is 7.31 and t table is 2,000, it can be concluded that if (7.13> 2.000) then there is an effect of using Numbered Head Together strategy on the ability to write English in grade 2 students of SMP Nurul Falah Pekanbaru.

The purpose of this research was to find out how is the skill of students of University of Pasir Pengaraian especially in third semester of English Study Program in students delivering impromptu speech. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data were gotten from the students in third semester. The data were taken through Speaking Test in impromptu speech from the video and transcript of the students itself. The steps in analyzing the data are collecting the data, analyzing the data, and displaying the result of the analysis. The third semester students of English Study Program of University of Pasir Pengaraian had average level in delivering impromptu speech. 18 students (54,54%) had the average score. 14 students (42,42%) had the fair score, and 1 student had the poor (3,03%). It can be concluded that the students’ skill in delivering impromptu speech was average.

The purposes of this research were to find out effect of OSTS strategy on students reading comprehension and students’ participation. There are four hypotheses formulated, First, There is no significant difference on the students’ reading comprehension pre-test mean score between experimental group and control group. Second, there is no significant difference on the students’ reading comprehension posttest mean score between experimental group and control group. Third, there is no significant different on the students’ reading comprehension pre-test and post-test mean score of the experimental group. Fourth, there is no significant different on the students’ participation in teaching and learning reading comprehension of experimental group before and after using one stay two strays strategy. The population was the grade X SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir. There are 4 classes. By using cluster random sampling, it was found that X C as try out class, X B as experimental class and X A as the control. This research was conducted by using quasi experiment. The researcher used test as the instrument and analyzed by using T-test. The result shows that one stay two strays could improve students’ reading comprehension and participation.

The purpose of this research was to find out students’ skill in writing recount text. Recount text was a text that tells the reader to listener what happened in the past through a sequence events. This research used descriptive qualitative research design.The findings showed that the students’ skill in writing recount text at SMAN 2 Rambah Hilir as follows: 1 student (3,33%) was very good category, 11 students (36,7%) were good category, 16 students (53,3%) were fair category, and 2 students (6,67%) were poor category.

This paper is qualitative descriptive research which investigates types of presupposition and the mostly used type of presupposition. The data source in this study is utterance in Guardian news. The method of collecting is by observation. The methods of analyzing data are by agih and padan method from Sudaryanto. Author uses theory of Yule which divides presupposition into 6 types these are existential presupposition, factive presupposition, lexical presupposition, structural presupposition, non-factive presupposition, and counterfactual presupposition. The researcher has 20 data here. There are 3 types of presupposition found in the Guardian news. The most used type used is existential presupposition.

This study aims to give an overview of potential online writing tools that can be used in teaching writing for EFL university students during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study was a literature review. It explicates online writing tools and reviews previous research exploring the use of these applications for teaching writing. The data was obtained from articles in online academic journals. There were three databases and sites used in finding the articles; Science Direct, Google Scholar, and Research gate. The result shows that there are three potential online writing toolsapplicable for EFL university students in learning writing from home namely Paragraph Punch, Pro-Writing Aid, and Edmodo. Finally, some suggestions are also offered for lecturers and students regarding the use of online writing tools in teaching writing.

This research discussed about the analysis of speech act used in the Grown Ups movie. This research revealed the types of speech act that found in the Grown Ups during the movie. The researcher applied the qualitative descriptive method because it was dealt with the description analysis by using words. Observation method used to collect the data. The researcherchose this movie because it was popular in the 20’s century and there were many speech acts reflected in this movie. As the result, it was found that were 30 utterances of speech acts in Grown Ups movie. From the 30 data that researcher collected, the main characters most expressed the types of speech act. They are 6 locutionary acts, 15 illocutionary acts, and 9 perlocutionary. Based all the data above, it can be concluded the most used speech act found in this data was illocutionary act. The next was perlocutionary act. Then the last was locutionary act.
