Abstract

Women discrimination in the theory of gender discrimination is the difference in the treatment of women, violations of their rights, and women as victims who endanger or limit access to opportunities available to other members of the community.  The portrayal of female discrimination can be found in the drama entitled Ruined. This drama tells of the war in the Congo which led to raping and sexual violence which had been applied as a powerful weapon in achieving military and economic goals.  The main target is women.  Researchers wants to find out how women's discrimination occurs, then what are the factors and what are the effects of female discrimination. The purpose of this research is to find out how women discrimination occurs in Congo, find out the causes of discrimination and the impact of discrimination on the four female characters in the dramaThis research was designed in a qualitative manner using an explanatory method. The research data shows that there are four female characters who experience discrimination.  They are Mama Nadi, Josephine, Sophie, and Salima.  Discrimination factors found in drama such as economic ambition, social masculinity, and impunity. Furthermore, the results of the study showed that female discrimination had a major impact on the four characteristics of women victims and had physical and social impacts, such as stress, mental disorders, trauma, venereal disease, and even the greatest impact was suicide.Keyword: Women Discrimination

Abstract

This study discusses the novel pearl s. Bucks the good earth. This study tells about a betrayal, a poor farmer named Wang Lung who married a slave who was willing to sacrifice and accompany wang lung to become a farmer until finally at the peak of success where wang lung became a rich man and began to betray O-Lan by having an affair with Lotus is a beautiful woman who awaits the tea shop. The research will focus on the betrayal and infidelity experienced by O-Lan in the novel. Wang Lung's character in this novel is very influential in the storyline, O-Lan who has been holding back his patience for a long time finally rebelled. and many things that happen in the novel that are closely related to the two, Therefore this research will focus on the betrayal that occurred. The purpose of this study is to discuss the betrayal with infidelity committed by the character Wang-Lung on his wife O-Lan based on observations of novel stories, in order to obtain accurate and more complete data. This research will also be supported by several theories from experts so that the data obtained becomes more focused and the researcher also reads more than once so that all the data obtained becomes more complete. The results of this study indicate the factors that cause betrayal and infidelity. This study can conclude that Wang lung's character has a big influence on the storyline. Loyalty selfishness can have an effect on domestic relationships.

Abstract

This study which is entitled “Figurative Language in Emily Dickinson Poems” focusing on the use of a figurative languiage and categorize it accordance with the types and describe the meaning of figurative language itself. The reseacher choose five poems which have interesting titles and famous works of Emily Dickinson and using intrinsic approach to gain an understanding of the meaning of figurative language in each poem.The data were collected from Emily Dickinson’s poems and focused on the figurative language. The data which have been identified, collected and classified are analyzed descriptively by using intrinsic approach. This study uses the theory of Perrine in his book “Literature, Structure, Sound and Sense”. According to Perrine, figurative language is away to express something beyond the usual way. In his book also describes the types of figurative language such as personification, metaphor, simile, symbol, synecdoche, metonymy, and hyperbole. The result of this study can be summarized as follows : first, in the poems of Emily Dickinson there are three types of figurative language, including : personification, simile, hyperbole. The personification and simile types dominate every poem of Emily Dickinson. Second, the meaning of figurative language used by Emily Dickinson in her poems in general described Emily Dickinson life experience.

Abstract

The part of pragmatics that is learned by the students is speech act. Speechact is using utterances to perform some actions, in any occasions speech actemerges in uttterances like in the movie, talk show, novel and many others.Thisstudy intend to analyze speech act used by one of the main characters in “Call me by Your Name Movie movie” movie script. In the analysis is to investigate what acts emerge behind the utterances and the impacts for the hearer after the utterances is stated. The statements of research problem are: 1) what are the illocutionary actsused by Elio and oliver as one of the main characters in Frozen movie script? The Elio and Oliver as one of the main characters in “Call me by Your Name Movie movie” script, and the next purpose is to describe illocutionary act used by Elio and Oliver as one of the main characters in “Call me by Your Name Movie movie” movie script.

Abstract

Sociology is the objective and scientific study of humans in society, and of the social institutions and processes that exist in society. Linguistics is a field of science that studies language, or a field of science that takes language as its object of study. In sociolinguistics, taboo words are part of sociolinguistics related to language and society. The word taboo is a word that is not considered good by the public or is better avoided, because they mention facts that are considered rude and disrespectful, in this study using a literature study taken from the milkman novel using reading techniques and marking parts of the word taboo in novel and the results obtained are obsenity 4 taboo sentences, profanity 2 taboo sentences, vulgarity 3 taboo sentences, epithet 1 taboo sentence, and taboo sentences in milkman novels are sentences that are usually spoken to insult or give nicknames to others.

Abstract

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions. Schizophrenia is a syndrome that could induce seriously psychology problems. This novel tells of schizophrenia in a novel entitled Harry Potter and Sorcerer Stone. The main target in this story is Harry Potter.Researchers want to know how Schizophrenia occurs, then what are the factors and impacts of schizophrenia. The purpose of this study is to find out how schizophrenia occurs and its impact in the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer Stone novel.This study was designed in a qualitative manner using the explanatory method. Research data shows that Harry Potter has schizophrenia. Schizophrenia factor found in novels such as Dementors, Voldemort's Horcruxes, magic suppression, Bullying, Abuse Child. Furthermore, research shows that schizophrenia has a big impact on Harry Potter, namely being a famous wizard, having the love of his parents, and being a hero

Abstract

The writer uses Crazy Rich Asian novel By Kevin Kwan as an object. This analysis discusses how the social class contained in the Crazy Rich Asian novel and its conflict on family life. In this thesis, the writer uses the social class and social conflict theory to analyze the novel. The method used in writing this thesis is a qualitative descriptive method. The findings and analysis that can be found in the novel about social class differences. This class difference is created because of the existence of social class, where they classify their social class, namely the upper class and middle class. Where the upper classes do not want to accept the middle class into their class. The difference in social class is measured by the power or wealth, privileges and prestige that affect the position, lifestyle, habits and behavior between the upper class and middle class so that the gap between the two classes is so striking. The conflict is the gap in social status in a family life or relationship. This gap affects the thinking of upper families who cannot accept any class lower than them to enter their families.

Abstract

Violence and murder have a very bad impact on other people. Violence causes a person to be mentally disturbed and makes a person traumatized by the actions they have experienced. murder is a very frightening event and a phenomenon that is difficult to forget if the incident is in front of us, occurs suddenly. Murder causes a person to be injured and lose their life tragically at the same time. The researcher analyses two main problems, namely how the description of violence and murder that occurs in the novel and the factors that influence it. This thesis uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The data is taken from quotations in the novel and related to the theory and these quotations will serve as evidence for analysis. The researcher uses the theory of violence and homicide taken from several research journals to analyze the data. The results of the study indicate that there are several important factors that influence the occurrence of acts of violence and murder, namely anger and frustration experienced by the characters in the novel.

Abstract

Self-confidence has been operationalized through self-esteem and self-efficacy. Believing in oneself (self-esteem) and one's capabilities (self-efficacy) can motivate an individual to take on more projects or work to further reach their goals, in other words, demonstrate self-confidence. This study aims to discuss Vittoria Vetra's self-confidence in Dan Brown's novel Angels and Demons. This study focuses on three problems; Vittoria Vetra's self-confidence, the factors that influence Vittoria Vetra's self-confidence, and the impact of Vittoria Vetra's self-confidence in Dan Brown's 'Angels and Demons'. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to answer the problems. The main data were taken from the sentence in the novel 'Angels and Demons' by Dan Brown. To collect the data the researcher uses library research, using some books and other references, such as articles, journals, and websites related to the subject analyzed. The data was derived by close reading particularly. After being read several times, the data had been collected and selected based on the purpose of the study.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the meaning of discourse deixis and social deixis found in the movie script of Encanto, and describe the role of context in determining the references of each deixis that is found in the movie. In this research, the researcher used descriptive qualitative method. After finding the movie script, the researcher marked the discourse deixis and social deixis to be analyzed using the theory of Levinson. The result of this research shows that there are 20 data of discourse deixis and 15 data of social deixis. Generally, the discourse deixis refer to other expression mention in some part of the discourse. The social deixis in this research shows the social status among the speakers. The social status of the other speakers depends on the context when the conversation happens. The referents of both discourse deixis and social deixis are determined by the context where they are used.
