Abstract

This study attempts to analyze a fairy tale novel entitled “The Adventure of Pinocchio”, which talks about the story of the irrepressible marionette who longed to become a real boy. This study focuses on revealing the categories of moral value and describing the building children's character implied in this novel. To analyze this novel, the researcher uses two principles theory to find out the objectives of the studies. There are moral values argued by Linda & Eyre and the theory of children’s character building based on Lewis. The method of this study is qualitative research, which means it does not need statistical procedure to analyze the material. This study merely uses “The Adventure of Pinocchio,” a novel by Carlo Collodi, translated into English version by Carol Della Chiesa as the primary data source. At the same time, the secondary data sources are taken from other literary books and related references to support and complete the primary data. As a result, the researcher finds that some elements of moral values such as love and affection, sensitivity and not-selfish, bravery, self-discipline, and moderation occurred in the content of the novel. Meanwhile, building children's character can be implied through “The Adventure of Pinocchio's” fairy tale: honesty, responsible, regard, respect, and compassionated. Keywords: Fairy Tale, Moral Value, Building Children Character

Abstract

The word formation process is concerned with how new words are produced, whether through the modification of preexisting terms or through total invention, which later becomes a component of the "Stonks Memes" language used on the internet. The two goals of this study are as follows: the first is to identify the slang term's altered meaning in "Stonks Memes," and the second is to highlight the process modifications and changes that appear in the online varieties of "Stonks Memes." This method, which classified data based on morphology theory and used Yule's theory as the primary one for analyzing word formation and morphological system, was descriptive in nature. The word-formation process occurred because of the necessity of the stonk meme format, which required the term to be transformed to convey a hilarious connotation. This study found four forms of word-formation processes, including back-formation, coinage, borrowing, and blending. It is concluded that the word in question was purposely altered by the meme developer to fit in the stonk memes framework, changing both the word's sound and its meaning. Keywords: word-formation process, slang, memes, stonks, internet

Then, it has significant ideals that can inspire and make reference to societal reality. The study examines a variety of materials, including interview transcripts, social science texts, and narrative-style films, television shows, and periodicals. It does this using a qualitative research methodology called content analysis. In order to be interpreted afterwards, hostile cues from the actors are gathered and grouped. It is a speech delivered by Barack Obama with regard to the issue of 46th president election in 2020 between Trump and Biden. That approach is van Dijk’s (1993) social cognition theory that is focused on the elements of social cognition contained in the speech. In line with Memon, et al. (2014) findings on analyzing Benazir Bhutto’s last speech, there are nine elements of social cognition. Meanwhile, the findings of current study show that there are three social cognition elements in the speech. They are social attachment, mind control, and glorification. In conclusion, social cognition can explore mental awareness of the scenario writer which then forms the text. Keywords: critical discourse analysis, social cognition, speech
