Abstract

Sulfur hexafluoride gas according to the Montreal Protocol and Kyoto protocol needs to be limited and gradually reduced because it causes global warming, the greenhouse effect and acid rain on the environment. The Kyoto protocol recommends the use of dichlorotrifluoroethane gas as one of the alternatives to substitute sulfur hexafluoride gas. This research discusses the use of dichlorotrifluoroethane gas mixed with CO2 gas which was known to be able to withstand the breakdown voltage of 592-870 kV. Comparing to breakdown voltage predictions using methods based on bond energy, Paschen's law and high voltage tests. Breakdown voltage deviations using bond energy were better than Paschen's law. The dichlorotrifluoroethane gas economy has a price of 5.18 times cheaper than hexafluoride sulfur gas. The ability of dichlorotrifluoroethane gas to insulation gas in gas insulated switchgear needs to be applied as a real potential substitute for sulfur hexafluoride gas.Keywords- bond energy, dichlorotrifluoroethane, gas insulated switchgear, Paschen’s law, sulfur hexafluoride, techno-economy.

Abstract

Electrical ac power systems consist of generation systems, transmission and distribution networks. The large three phase industrial loads at various distribution and transmission voltages as well as single-phase residential and commercial loads are supplied by the networks. Nowadays, the power quality such as voltage sags/swell, transient interrupts and harmonic distortions in sinusoidal waveforms are concerned with most of the electrical loads. The power quality problems such as voltage sags, swells and harmonics are caused by the widespread using of power electronics devices in power system. In this paper, electrical voltage sags/swells of power quality problems are considered because this problem is one of the most severe disturbances to the industrial equipment of distribution system. Thus, mitigation of these voltages in distribution system is necessary. So, series connected power electronics based device such as Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) is chosen to compensate these voltage for mitigating quickly the voltage sag/swell in the system and restoring the load voltage to the nominal value. For case study, Myaungtagar industrial zone is chosen due to furnaces and large motor drives that cause the common problems such as voltage sag/swell in this system. In this paper, performance analysis of voltage sag/swell compensation of power distribution system with Dynamic Voltage Restorer (DVR) under various fault conditions is carried out. The proposed configuration model uses MATLAB/SIMULINK and the performance of voltage compensation and restoration of load voltage to the nominal value with DVR under various fault conditions is verified by the simulation results. Keywords: dynamic voltage restorer, voltage compensation, voltage sag, voltageswell.

Abstract

Hybrid energy generation is a renewable energy power plant with more efficiency and advantages than a stand-alone generator. Using 2 generators for battery storage can speed up the charging of energy to the battery but in the battery charging system, there is still wasted energy and an uncontrolled Charging and Discharging system on the battery resulting in a short battery life. Therefore we need a tool to control the Charging and Discharging performance of the battery in order to optimize battery charging thereby extending battery life. Automatic Switching System is an innovation of Charging and Discharging activity management so that it does not occur simultaneously on the battery, this process is carried out by a microcontroller. The use of 2 DC power sources as a charging source helps speed up battery charging for 30 minutes faster than 1 source. Through several modes provided, this tool can select sources and batteries that can be used as a condition for Charging and Discharging. Keywords: automatic switching, hybrid, management system.

Abstract

This study deals with an effort to reduce inrush current of single phase transformer during its energizing. Inrush current affected by residual flux was minimized using demagnetization method in order to reduce residual flux trapped in the core of transformer. Two methods of demagnetization namely variable frequency-constant voltage (VFCV) and variable voltage–constant frequency (VVCF) were applied and the effectiveness of both methods were then compared. Both methods were supplied with alternated direct current (DC), however the one was changed its frequency and the other one was changed its voltage. The results obtained after transformer was demagnetized using these methods show that VFCV method educed inrush current up to 76%, on the other hand VVCF ethod reduced inrush current only up to 37%. Moreover, demagnetization time process of VFCV method was about 1.46 s, which is 1 s faster than VVCF method. Keywords: demagnetization; inrush current; variable voltage-constant frequency; variable frequency-constant voltage

Abstract

In this study, we present a visual sensor for domestic service robots, which can capture both color information and three-dimensional information in real time, by calibrating a time of flight camera and two CCD cameras. The problem of occlusions is solved by the proposed occlusion detection algorithm. Since the proposed sensor uses two CCD cameras, missing color information of occluded pixels is compensated by one another. We conduct several evaluations to validate the proposed sensor, including investigation on object recognition task under occluded scenes using the visual sensor. The results revealed the effectiveness of proposed visual sensor. Keywords: Time of flight camera, visual sensor, camera calibration, occlusion detection, object recognition.

Abstract

Heading control of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) using Model Predictive Control (MPC) gives a good performance. Varying the length of the horizon provides a variety of performance. This paper is made in order to find out how many optimal horizons are needed to obtain the highest efficiency of energy use in AUV. Test results show a positive correlation between the length of the horizon and the amount of energy used. The optimal horizon obtained is then tested on several different trajectories. Keywords: autonomous underwater vehicle, horizon optimizatoin, model predictive control.

Abstract

Abstract— The transfer of goods from one place to another in the production process in a common industry we encounter using conveyors. Conveyors have replaced human labor used in moving production goods from one place to another in the industry. By using conveyors, the transfer time can be reduced and not dependent on humans anymore. Conveyor control can use a controller in the form of a PLC. PLC programming can use many methods, one of which is the cascade method. The beginning of the development of this method is widely used in pneumatic systems, but as time goes by this method is used in completing sequential systems. The ideal cascade method is used for sequential processes without an iterative process, the theory is easy to understand, the results are easy to implement. In this study the type of PLC used is CPM1 from OMRON. By using Cascade method, the result from construction of ladder diagram is obtained by 59 rung, 6 timer, 18 relay, and the program capacity is 3 KB.Keywords: Conveyor, PLC, Ladder diagram, Cascade method, relay group.
