Abstract

The waste water of blue crab pasteurization has potential in environmental pollution. It contained TSS of 206.5mg.1-1, BOD 7,092.6mg.1-1 and COD of 51,000mg.1-1. on the other hand, it also contains an interesting flavor compound, which composed of 0.23% non protein nitrogen and 17 amino acids where the highest was glutamic acid one. In this study, pre-filtration step using filter size 0.3 µ followed by reverse osmosis has been used to reduce these pollutions load and flavor compound recovery. During pre-filtration steps, TSS was reduced to 74.8% so turbidity decrased reased until 31%. After reverse osmosis process, BOD, and COD decreased more than 99%, and there was no amino acids detected in permeate stream. Factors that affect performance of reverse osmosis were transmembrane pressure, temperature and pH. The higher transmembrane pressure, temperature and pH resulted the higher the flux permeate. The use of higher temperature make flux increasing, eventually increasing transmembrane pressure make the flux increased only at transmembrane pressure less than 716 kPa. The protein rejection was influenced unsignifanctly by transmembrane pressure, temperature and pH. During concentrating flux declined exponentially by time function. At concentration factor 2.75 resulted 79% and 12% of increasing protein and NPN, respectively. The amino acids content can be increased 2−23 times of the origin. Even arginin and sistin, the amino acids that were undetectable initially, but they can bedetected at concentration of 0.0360 and 0.0250 (w/v) respectively at the end of the process. Hidrolysis and fermentation process can increase the amino acid content 31−45 times.

Abstract

This research aims was to improve distillation process performance of vetiver oil in term of oil recovery and quality and energy efficiency through optimizing process condition. The main approach used in this work is stepwise increased steam pressure and flow rate along the distillation process. This method combined the relationship between temperature, phase equilibrium and boiling point of chemical constituents of vetiver oil. Distillation process with increased pressure was observed improve the oil recovery. while the oil quality was maintained. The energy efficiency was also improved through reduced distillation time. Increased steam flow rate significantly affect total oil recovery. The steam flow rate of 2 1/hr/kg material result in an vetiver oil recovery of 90 percent.

Abstract

The beluntas (Piuchea indica L) leaf powder is one of the herbs species which contains antioxidants (flavonoid, vitamin C and beta-carotene), phytochemical and antinutrients. This study was designed to know the ability of the beluntas on the sensory of meat and duck egg without gave the negative effect on duck performances. The results showed that off-flavor's skinned meat duck were not affected, while off-flavor's duck and salted duck eggs are significantly reduced by 0.5% and 1% of beluntas leaf meal in the feed ration. Fatty acids of yolk eggs and duck meat were higher by giving beluntas leaf meal on the ration than without giving one. This showed that antioxidant on beluntas leaf meal could prevent lipid oxidation. TBA value of duck meat was the lowest by giving 0.5% of beluntas on the ration. The productivity such as egg production and feed conversion were the best by giving 1 °/o of beluntas leaf meal on the ration. Egg weight, quality of eggs; fat and cholesterol of yolk were not affected. A higher nutrient digestibilities (protein, energy, Ca and P) was obtained in duck eating 1.0% beluntas leaves (Psmall intestines. The numbers of ducks experiencing liver damage were the lowest in ducks consuming 1.0% beluntas leaves than those eating 0.5% beluntas

Abstract

The ultimate goal of fresh milk formulations are efficacious against-bird flu and diarrhea (against Escherichia coli and Salmonella enteritidis). Outputs generated in this first year of immunoglobulin Y anti-bird flu and anti-diarrhea in various forms of spray dry yolk, dry freeze egg yolks, and pure extracts. lg Y that collected is located in the egg yolks and tested positive for HSNl virus, E. coli and S. enteritidis. Production of Ig Y begins with the treatment in the form of vaccination in laying hens 4 (four) times during the 4 (four) weeks. The vaccines were used in the form of HSNl in the first and third week, while E. coli and S. enteritidis used every week. Serum and yolk was collected and checked for the presence of anti-lg Y was the third agent since the first week after the last vaccination. Inspection method for E. coli and S. Enteritidis is the order Presipitation Gel Test (AGPT) while the HSNl method Haemagglutination Inhibition (HI). The results give a positive result against all three antigens, but in a different week. This situation is common given the immunity of each chicken is different depending on race, age and environment.

Abstract

This paper is carried out in order to study and evaluate the existing of governmental policies and the strategies of Indonesian government for conservation of forest and protective areas and it is also to formulate a sustainable development strategy for forest and protective areas. This study is related with the enactment of the No. 19 Act in 2004 which is implemented in the forest areas, as a new regulation of forestry especially for 13 companies which got the permission in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 41 in 2004 which is a manifestation of synchronization of mining activities in the forest areas. The method of this paper is used a normative legal research to study and evaluate the governmental policies and strategies which deal with mining activities in the forest areas. In this paper I analize a normative vagueness between two Acts, that is No. 11 Act in 1967 as the law of mining and No. 41 Act in 1999 as the law of forestry regarding utilization of forest and conservative forest to overlapping the mining activities. From the result of this study I concluded that in reality the mining is one of the causes of forest destruction. Walhi indicated that the mining locations clearly visible how the face of Indonesian forests are destroyed by excavation, disposal of waste rock and tailing and after mine operation support of the activities and they left about the holes were allowed to continue to open and become toxic acid at the post-mining lake. From the review above for addressing the threat need to formulate a sustainable development strategy for forest and protective areas at least need to revitalize the effort to required legislation concerning forest and conservation of biodiversity for mining activities in the forest areas.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to obtain the ecological condition and propagation of kamandrah (Croton tiglium L.) and determination of its potency as biological larvacidal for preventing dengue haemorraghic fever. Agrobiophysic study indicated that Croton tiglium L. plant need full sunlight(> 70 %). low intensity of sunlight could decrease the ability of plant to produce seed. The plant could grow well on podzolic land (30-50 m upon sea surface). Seed of kamandrah from Ampah has growth percentage of 43.8 °/o, height of 27.5 em, stem diameter of 5 em, total leaves of 10, and total primary branches of 2. Phytochemical assay resulted that among other part of Kamandrah, Kamandrah seed has highest alkaloid content. Because alkaloid compound has high larvicidal activity, kamandrah seed has high potency as larvicide. Among all of extracts of part of plant, oil of Croton tiglium L. has the highest potency as biological larvacidal with 863.67 ppm of LC50 for 24 hours of treatment.
