Abstract

Purpose: This research is done to find out the implementation of check in handling by receptionist in improving the quality of service at a 5 star hotel located in Ubud tourist area, Gianyar, Bali, Indonesia. Research methods: Data collection methods used are observation, interviews, questionnaires, and literature study. The analysis technique used in this research is qualitative descriptive using a 4 level likert scale. Findings: The overall implementation of check in handling has been implemented to the maximum, but there are some standard operating procedures (SOP) that are lacking in its application. Implication: It takes effort from the receptionist to be able to implement maximum check in SOP in order to improve the quality of hotel services.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to improve the concierge's excellent service in increasing guest satisfaction at a 5 star hotel in Legian tourist area, Kuta, Badung, Bali, Indonesia. Research methods: Data are analyzed using the theory of Service Quality (SERVQUAL) and Importance Performance Analysis which is described in the Cartesian diagram. Findings: There are negative and positive gaps between guest perceptions and expectations. The attribute that has a negative gap is the X2 variable regarding the cleanliness of the concierge area. Implication: The hotel needs to improve cleanliness of the concierge area, the ability of the concierge to carry on the promised service on time, and suitability of information needed.

Abstract

Purpose: The 2019 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak is projected to have unprecedented effects on the global tourism especially to the hospitality industry. This paper aims to examine how the outbreak may alter Chinese tourists’ travel behavior, lifestyle changes and tourism preferences in the short and long term. Research methods: This paper employs qualitative research method to understand the most aspect influence towards Indonesia and China partnership in the tourism post-pandemic. It is based on the synthesis of news broadcasted by several media outlets to be supported by an overview of the related literature on online travel, tourism marketing, tourism management and tourist behavior. Findings: China have that hidden potential in the tourism sector awaiting to be awaken. Data shows that only about one-tenth of China's 1.4 billion people hold passports, a relatively small figure. It is reported that Chinese travelers spent more than 120 billion U.S. dollars overseas last year, surpassing other countries. Implication: China should be the focus for Indonesia’s tourism rebound post Covid-19. The massive volume and projected spending of travelers could support the economy of Indonesia both in short and long period of time.

Abstract

Purpose: This research aims to determine the impacts of the Covid-19 outbreak on the hotel industry in Bali, specifically at Wyndham Garden Kuta Beach Bali. It is to analyze the efforts to overcome with a Strategic Recovery Plan. Research methods: This research is an exploration research with participatory observation used to collect all of the research data. The researcher uses Business Continuity (BC) dan Disaster Recovery (DR) method as reference to understand the map of pandemic effect, determine operational variable and develop Strategic Recovery plan. Findings: The hotel management have formulated six phases of Strategic Recovery Plan consisting of Market Research and Business Strategy, The Top Priorities, Strategic Findings, Set Milestone, Market Segment Projection, and Work Plan. Implication: Those six phases are created to focus business operation on necessary and realistic action that can be implemented during challenging market condition effected by the long run Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Purpose: This research is conducted with the aim of examining the management strategy of a hotel in a Covid-19 pandemic situation. Research methods: The research method used is descriptive qualitative with virtual interview techniques and literature study. Findings: The strategy adopted by the hotel, in this case The Westin Resort Nusa Dua is a generic strategy and a corporate functions strategy. Implication: The strategy is expected to become a reference for other hotels during the Covid-19 pandemic so that the hotels can still operate even in abnormal conditions.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to find how a sacred space be a part of outdoor tourist destination consisting of heritage building law and rules to respect the sacred space. Research methods: The study is based on a qualitative research by accommodating criterias of heritage building rules and considering the local architecture as base design. Findings: Sumur Batu is a heritage-listed object in Bekasi. It is a water well that believed by local peoples to be an ancestral heritage and is named Tirta Karuhun. The site is one of the Satellites of The National Gallery of Indonesia (GNI) that plays a role as an art gallery that shows artworks. Implication: The site enriches the contemporary art displays in a sacred area. The sacred place has opportunity to be a venue for art activities. It can be an outdoor tourist destination.

Abstract

Purpose: This research was conducted in the border area in Sajingan Besar District, Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia, by focusing on the realization of the infrastructure aspect as the driving force of the development of the Indonesia-Malaysia cross border tourism destination. Research methods: The data of the research comes from observations, unstructured interviews, and literature studies. The research method used is qualitative descriptive methods. Findings: The research shows that the Aruk border area has completed both stages: (i) Priority Core Zone (office and service zone, trade and service zone) san (ii) Support Zone (infrastructure such as rest areas, money changers, tourism markets, places of worship, Indonesian guesthouse). Implication: The project needs fulfilment of strong basics such as infrastructure and accommodation, as well as being integrated with each other in building and advancing border areas to become world-class destinations, namely cross border tourism.

Abstract

Purpose: This research tries to preserve cultural building heritage by reusing old buildings as The National Gallery of Indonesia’s Satellites (Galeri Nasional Indonesia Satelit) to provide design recommendations that can combine old and contemporary aspects. Research methods: This research is divided into three stages: data exploration and observation of the existing building; activities of reviewing data and making 3D models of existing building; and analysis using the theory of “The 10 Trends of Museum” to create a new attraction for a gallery. Findings: The former Kemajoran Airport has several potentials which are maintained as the identity and uniqueness of the building. The implementation of the theory can find out where the best location to display artwork according to its type and how to display it. The initial stage in utilizing old building is understanding the history, existing conditions, and potential of the building. Implication: The latest trends can attract the wider community to visit exhibition in gallery, especially the current generation. It can be used as one of the tourist destinations in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract: Purpose: This article aims to explore the concept of Green Human Resource Management (HRM), the Green HRM model, and the practice of Green HRM implementation in the hospitality industry. Research methods: This study used a qualitative descriptive method with literature review. The article was taken as study material using the Google Scholar search engine. Findings: Human resource managers must have a good awareness of the Green HRM concept, after which Green HRM practices can be carried out, such as: green building concepts, minimizing paper use, recycling and disposal of waste, and energy conservation. They should clearly integrate the concept of Green HRM in human resource functions. Implication: Employees are expected to have a vision of sustainability, which is in the end company also concentrates not only on economic sustainability, but also ecology, and the social environment.

Abstract

Abstract: Purpose: This article is a case study which aimed to briefly evaluate the journey of Atanaya hotel towards green predicate; how they operate on a daily basis to emulate green lifestyle and to minimize their unfavorable business impacts on natural environment. Research methods: This study was performed in a qualitative approach, in which the data collection was summarized through a case study in the form of on-the-spot field research and questionnaires, followed by interviews with the General Manager as well as the Owner of Atanaya Hotel Bali. Findings: Common rooms are airy and surrounded by plantations, while guest rooms have also already been supplied with eco-friendly appliances. The hotel has carried out this type of management since 2018. Overall, considerable efforts have been put by Atanaya Hotel Bali into adapting environmentally-friendly concepts, although the hotel itself has not publicly announced its green hotel policy. Implication: Atanaya Hotel Bali successfully followed the protocol towards being accredited as a sustainable, ecological hotel while maintaining their rates at competitive level.
