Aims Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan purposes to publish original research and reviews articles on tropical veterinary medicine and domesticated animals such as dog, cat, cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, poultry, as well as Indonesian wild life. Scope Jurnal Nukleus Peternakan cover a broad range of research topics in animal production and fundamental aspects of genetics, reproduction, socioeconomic of livestock, nutrition, physiology, and preparation and utilization of animal products. Articles typically report research with beef cattle, goats, horses, pigs, and sheep; however, studies involving other farm animals, aquatic and wildlife species, endangered animals, and laboratory animal species that address fundamental questions related to livestock and companion animal biology will be considered for publication.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using flour taro as a substitution of tapioca on organoleptic quality of cooked pork sausage. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and three replications was used in this experiment. The treatment consisted of TK0 = without addition of taro flour (Control), TK50 = Use of tapioca flour 50% + flour 50%, TK75 = Use of tapioca flour 25% + flour 75%, and TK100 = Flour 100% (tapioca 0 %). The results showed that using of flour taro was highly significant (P<0.01) influenced the color, aroma and taste of pork sausage. As the taro flour increased, the color of sausage changed to brown, reduced the aroma and taste of sausage. To sum up, using taro flour 50%-100% as a substitution of tapioca flour causes the sausage become browner; reduce aroma and taste.

Abstract

This study aimed was to determine the effect of roselle flour extract on pork jerky. Completely randomized design 4 x 3 was used in this experiment The treatment consisted of ER0 = without addition of roselle flour extract, ER4 = 4% (v/w) roselle flour extract, ER8 = roselle flour extract 8% (v/w) and ER12 = roselle flour extract 12%(v/w). The parameters observed were water content, fat oxidation, total bacteria, ph and organoleptic: color, aroma, and taste of park jerky. The result of statistical analysis showed that rosela flour exract on pork jerky had highly significantly effect (P<0.01) on water, fat oxidation, pH and organoleptics: colors, the aroma of pork jerky. The lowest water content was in ER12 (35.86±0.33), the lowest fat oxidation was in the ER12 (9.57±0.70), the lowest pH was in ER4 (4.79±0.05). The best color was found in ER4 (4.86±0.38), the best aroma was found in ER0 (5.00±0.00). In conclusion, increasing of roselle flour extract level causes the decreasing the oxidation fat, reducing the color score ( jerky become brown) and rosela/ sour in aroma.

Abstract

This research aimed to study the effect of feeding silage of kume grass and Pasiflora foetida leaves differing in their ratio on fiber intake and digestibility, rumen VFA and blood glucose concentration of male kacang goats. This study used four male kacang goats with the average body wight of 10,5 kg. This experiment followed a 4x4 Latin Square design with four treatments in four 21-day periods as replications. The treatments were M0 : silage made of 100 % kume grass, M20 : silage made of 80% kume grass + 20% Passiflora foetida, M40 : 60% kume grass + passiflora foetida 40%, M60 : 40% kume grass + 60% Passiflora foetida. Result showed that feeding silage made of different ratio of kume grass and Passiflora foetida leaves did not significantly (P>0,05) affect the length and frequency of eating, the length of rumination period as well as the length and frequency of resting period. Therefore, it can be concluded that inclusion of P. foetida in the silage mix with kume grass up to 60% is considered save as it did not affect the feeding behaviour of Kacang goats.

Abstract

This study aims to were: 1) to know the amount of income farmers in the business of beef cattle in the District Raimanuk. 2) to know the feasibility of beef cattle business in Raimanuk District. Sampling is done through two stages. The first stage is the determination of sample villages conducted by purposive sampling and the second stage is the determination of the respondents who made a simple random. The data were collected using interview technique. The data collected includes primary and secondary data. Primary data obtained from observation and interview, while secondary data obtained from related institutions and literature related to research. The analysis is done by using income analysis and financial analysis. The results showed that the income earned by each cattle rancher amounted to Rp10.318.759/year and the financial investment criteria such as NPV Rp7. 561.847, Net B/C 1.96, IRR 23%, and PBP 2.96 years.

Abstract

This aim of the research was to know production performances at birth age of piglets of landrace sow crossbreds. The research was carried out in two breeding farms namely the Instalation of Pig Breeding, village of Tarus, Kupang Regency and the Manise Pig Farm, Village of Oetete, Kupang City. There were 15 heads of landrace crossbreed sows. The method used wasa survey and samples were collected purposively that there were all of the landrace sow crossbreds. The variables were litter size, body weights, girth size, and body length. Data were differentiated between males and females. The data obtained was analysed using the t test (t-test). The results showed that males had the average of litter size, body weight, girth size and body length were 5.03±1.81 head; 1.48±0.58 kg/head; 24.82±3.29 cm and 22.21±4.18 cm, respectively while females had the average of liter size, body weight, girth size and body length were 4.80±1.49 head; 1.45±0.49 kg/head; 24.51±3.17cm and 21.78±4.75 cm, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there was no difference (P>0.05) between males and females from all observation variables. Performances of piglets from ;andrace sow crossbreds for male and female characters such as litter size, birth weight, girth size and body length were relatively similar.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of adding various concentrations of dragon fruit peel extract (DFPE) in Tris-egg yolk diluent (TEY) on the quality of bligon goat spermatozoa. Semen was collected twice a week using the artificial vaginal method from three year old bligon male goats with normal body conditions and reproductive organs. After the macroscopic and microscopic evaluation, good quality semen with a sperm motility of > 70%, a concentration of > 800 x 106 mL-1, and abnormality of < 15 %, was diluted with TEY + DFPE at a concentration of 0% (P0), 2% (P1), 4% (P2), 6% (P3), 8% (P4), dan 10% (P5). The semen which still had a motility ≥ 70% was then stored at a temperature of 3-5oC. Evaluation of the quality of spermatozoa was carried out every 24 hours until the motility decrease to 40%. The results showed that from day 1 to day 5 of preservation, spermatozoa preserved in TEY + 6% DFPE diluent (P3) had higher motility and viability (P<0,05) than other treatments. The abnormalities of spermatozoa until the 5 day of preservation were below 6%, but showed a significant difference (P<0,05) between treatments that received DFPE suplemention with control (P0). It was concluded that the addition of DFPE in TEY up to 6% could reduce the decrease in sperm quality of bligon goats during in vitro preservation.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the optimal addition of various levels of concentrate containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu isoleusinat against the use of protein that consumes sorghum-kembang telang silage in goats kacang. This study used 12 goats Kacang with an average body weight of 14.40 kg (KV = 14.93%). This study used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with 4 treatments and 3 replications. The four treatments were T1 = Silage sorghum-kembang telang ad libitium, and T2, T3, T4 = T1 + concentrate with levels of 10%, 20% and 30% respectively containing 150 mg ZnSO4 and 2% Zn-Cu Isoleucine. The parameters observed were PK consumption, PK digestibility, and blood urea concentration. The results showed that the addition of various levels of concentrate containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu isoleusinat which was optimal for the use of protein that consumed sorghum-kembang telang silage in goats Kacang had a significant effect (P <0.05) on crude protein consumption, but had no significant effect (P <0.05) on crude protein digestibility and blood urea concentration. The conclusion is that the addition of various levels of concentrate containing ZnSO4 and Zn-Cu isoleusinat which is optimal for the use of protein that consumes sorghum-kembang telang silage in goats Kacang is found in T4 treatment as much as 30%.

Abstract

The experiment was conducted to improve the nutrients quality ofrice bran fermented with Saccharomyces cereviseae.A laboratorium experimental method was used andarranging factorially in Completely Randomized Design3 x 4 x 3 namely three inoculant levels of S.cerevisiae 1, 2, and 3 % (w/w) as the first factor and inkubation time: 24, 48 and 72 hours as the second factor. Parameters observed were crude protein, soluble protein,crude fat, and phytic acid.The best result of this study was combination 2% S.cerevisiae inoculant level and 72 hours incubation time was supporting to increasing crude protein (10,88 to 14, 36%), soluble protein content (6.14 to 9.82%), and decreased phytic acid content (5.48 to 2.98%) and crude fat (8,23 to 6,91%).

Abstract

The study aimed at evaluating the effect supplementation of moringa (Moringa oleifera. L) leaves solution into liquid feeding on feed efficiency and carcass quality in landrace crossbred growing-finishing pig. There were 12 barrows with 18 – 45 (average 29.17) kg, CV 24,17% initial body weight used in the study. Trial method using block design 4 treaments with 3 replicates pocedures were applied in the study. The 4 treatment diets offered in the trial were: T0 = basal diet (control) T1 = basal diet + Moringa leaves colution 5%; T2 = basal diet + Moringa solution 10%; and T3 = basal diet + Moringa solution 15%. Variables evaluiated in the study were: Feed efficiency, carcass quality (carcass weight, carcass percentage, loin eye area and bact fat). Results this study shows the treatment of moringa leaf solution supplementation markedly into liquid feeding is not significant (P>0.05) increased on feed efficiency, carcass weight and loin eye area but significant increased (P>0.05) on carcass percentage and reduced back fat thickness. The conclusion: the treatment of moringa leaf solution has the tendency to increase feed efficiency and can improve the quality of the carcass by increasing the loin eye area and decreasing the thickness of back fat. It was concluded that moringa leaf supplementation in liquid feeding > 10% of the feed can improve carcass quality.

Abstract

This study was conducted to examine the effect of adding boiled betel leaf and guava leaf in drinking water to the broiler chicken carcass production. As much 96 broilers strain CP 707 produced by PT Charoen Pokphan Indonesia. The experimental design used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 6 replications. The treatments consisted of T0: Dringking water without boiled betel leaf and guava leaf, T1: Dringking water + boiled betel leaf as much as 50 mL per liter of dringking water, T2: Dringking water + boiled guava leaf as much as 50 mL per liter of dringking water, T3: Dringking water + boiled mixture of 25 mL boiled betel leaf + 25 mL boiled guava leaf per liter of dringking water. Result of the study showed that the treatment had no significant effect (P>0,05) on slaughtering weight, carcass percentage, non-carcass percentage and abdominal fat percentage of broiler chicken. Based on the result of this study, it can be concluded that the addition of boiled betel leaf 50 mL per liter of dringking water, guava leaf 50 mL per liter of dringking water and the addition of a mixture of 25 mL boiled betel leaf + 25 mL boiled guava leaf per liter of dringking water, gives the same effect on the parameters measured.
