Abstract

The incidence of Metabolic Syndrome is 20-25% in the world and 13.13% in Indonesia. Metabolic syndrome is not a diagnosis but a collection of various symptoms that can develop into diseases or chronic conditions such as hypertension, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes mellitus (DM), which results in cardioserebrovascular disease. Metabolic Syndrome is more common in women than men. This community service is carried out at the request of the Taklim Assembly ladies Nurul Hikmah in the neighborhood of RW.15 Unsri lecturer’s residents, Bukit Lama, Ilir Barat 1 Palembang, mostly aged over 40 years. In this activity it was found that the majority of participants' awareness of the dangers of Metabolic Syndrome was still low. This is indicated by the number of participants who had excess body weight and waist circumference (44.29%), increased blood pressure (45.71%) and increased cholesterol levels (77.14%). The participants felt very helped and hoped that these community service activities or similar could be routinely carried out in the future.

Abstract

The shift in eating patterns generally in urban communities where the composition of food consumed tends to be higher in fat and low in fiber. Bad sleep quality due to heavy work, is also a risk factor for various health problems such as hypertension, obesity, insulin resistance and dyslipidemia; we call it metabolic syndrome. Many studies have shown that the number of morbidity and mortality due to metabolic syndrome increases significantly. Community service activities in the form of counseling about raising public awareness about metabolic syndrome, especially people in the village of Talang Petai. Aim of this activity is to increase awareness to carry out prevention and health care activities through dietary arrangements, sleep patterns, increasing physical activity, and immediately check into a health service if there are signs and symptoms of disease. The results of this activity, there is an increase in public knowledge about the dangers and how to promote and prevent metabolic syndrome. Henceforth, it needs to be done continuous community service activities so that health status can be increased.

Abstract

Efforts to increase preventive awareness of non-communicable diseases in millenials. Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease that causes metabolic disorders. The etiology of diabetes mellitus is including heredity, viruses that cause pancreatic beta cell damage, diet, obesity, activity patterns, environment and sleep habits. Community service activities aim to increase adolescent knowledge of the prevention of non- communicable diseases, especially diabetes mellitus. Activities carried out in the form of counseling about the signs and symptoms of general symptoms and risk factors for non-communicable diseases and its complications, independent analysis of sleep quality, body mass index), measurement of upper arm circumference and analysis of blood glucose levels. The results of this activity obtained an increase in adolescent insight about non-communicable diseases (especially diabetes mellitus) and increase knowledge about promotive and preventive from this diseases. Continuous service activities are needed to be carried out to the adolescents so that public health can improve.

Abstract

Prevention of metabolic syndrome and obesity through modification of eating habits, screen based activities and physical activities in children and adolescents. Obesity in childhood and adolescence is considered as one of the serious health problems in the 21st century. Obesity is a serious concern because the prevalence is increasing every year. Providing correct understanding to the community and training for Posyandu cadres is an appropriate way to prevent an increase in new cases of obesity. This community service activity was carried out in the city of Palembang, South Sumatra. Counseling about obesity is done to 87 teenagers and 45 adults. Training and assistance on how to measure BMI are also carried out for 10 Posyandu cadres. An evaluation of the success of the activity is carried out using random questions to the participants before and after the activity. After community service activities, most Posyandu participants and cadres understand about obesity in children and adolescents and how to prevent it. From this community service, it can be concluded that counseling and training can be used to improve the knowledge and skills of the community and cadres in recognizing and preventing obesity in children and adolescents.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition characterized by a reduction in the number of red blood cells and / or hemoglobin (Hb) concentration. The prevalence of anemia in Indonesia ranges between 12% in adolescent boys and 23% in adolescent girls with the proportion of anemia in the age group of 15-24 years and 25-34 years. Knowledge of the level and causes of anemia in adolescence is very is important, because it is a window of opportunity for school-based interventions to improve adolescent health. The purpose of this activity is to increase the awareness of adolescent about the importance of preventing anemia, as well as improving the skills of UKS member in carrying out activities that are preventive and promotive towards preventing anemia among adolescents. The method used is to provide counseling, blood checks, and provide training and assistance to health cadres in schools to carry out activities that are preventive and promotive to students in schools. The results obtained from this activity are an increase in students' knowledge about anemia, as well as preventive and promotive measures to prevent it.

Abstract

The tendency to increase the number of motorized vehicles can result in decreased air quality. The increasing number of motorized vehicles on the streets of major cities with various brands and types will increase the consumption of fuel oil and cause the effects of air pollution, which is one of the serious impacts of disrupting male reproductive health. Promotive efforts with discussion and question and answer lecture techniques were carried out to communities with serious exposure to vehicle exhaust emissions, namely online motorcycle taxi drivers. As many as 30 online motorcycle taxi riders have received benefits and solutions to improve the degree of male reproductive health.

Abstract

The incidence of diarrhea is still high in Indonesia. This disease mostly affects children, especially school-age children. One of the easy and simple preventive steps is apply proper handwashing. The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge of students of the Islamic Boarding School Thawalib Sriwijaya Palembang about the six-step method of washing hands. The participants are 55 students from 7th-grade junior high school to 12th-grade high school. The method consist of lectures, discussions and direct practice of how to wash hands properly. Evaluation is carried out using a pre-test and post-test questionnaire. The result of the paired T-test obtained p=0.000 with a mean difference of pre-test and post test is -4,000 and 95% confidence intervals is -4,429 to - 3,571. There was an increase in participants' knowledge about how to prevent diarrheal diseases by applying the six-step method of washing hands properly.

Abstract

Prayer is a worship performed by Muslims at least five times a day and night. Prayer is a set of physical movements while reciting verses of the Koran that are adapted to each position and movement in prayer. Prayer movements stretch a number of muscles and nerves, which provide constant physical therapy to all joints in the body so as to prevent arthritis and back pain. In this activity an assessment of lower back flexibility was carried out on the craftsman of the cloth in the village of Tuan Kentang in the District of Seberang Ulu 1 in the city of Palembang and education on the benefits of the prayer movement as an effort to care for lower back flexibility. Lower back flexibility in the group of men is very good (36.4%), good (36.4%), and sufficient (27.2%). While in the group of women, the value of flexibility is also very good (47.4%), good (15.8%), and sufficient (36.8%). None of the participants had impaired lower back flexibility.

Abstract

Education for Preventing Burnout Syndrome to Pertamina MOR II Palembang workers. Burnout is a syndrome that occurs due to prolonged interpersonal stress due to work. Burnout can also be described as psychological fatigue caused by work. This can occur due to the high demands of the company to provide optimal work results that the employees cannot tolerate. There are three things that can trigger this syndrome, namely excessive workload, neglect of work results and feelings of underappreciation at work. Based on a survey conducted in America, the main reason of stress was due to excessive workload, 1 in 5 employees experienced burnout syndrome which is around 46%, and in Indonesia, the survey results showed that around 64% of employees experienced increased fatigue due to work, and around 20% of employees believed that psychological fatigue is the cause of the absence of employees due to illness in the company. This community service is carried out at the request of the PERTAMINA Palembang Company. Burnout syndrome is a serious problem for employees and employers. If not addressed properly, it will lead to serious psychological problems for employees such as decreased productivity, withdrawal from work, depression and even anxiety, which in turn can have a negative impact on the company. For this reason, it is necessary to have monitoring and evaluation related to the psychological condition of employees on a regular basis.

Abstract

Improving the quality of life of the elderly through screening for risk of morbidity and promote the healthy eating practices. Aging results physiological decline in the organ function. Quality of life can be further decreased if there are other diseases that aggravate the health condition of the elderly. Chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease are the causes of disability in the elderly. Diet and physical activity are factors that can prevent this morbidity. Morbidity screening and education of healthy eating patterns are still needed for elderly, who are physically active, to support their health. Community service activities consist of nutrition counseling for elderly and health checking such as examine waist circumference, body fat mass, blood pressure, cholesterol and random blood sugar test. A total of fifty elderly, aged sixty years and over, that consist of forty-two women and eight men from the elderly community at Central General Hospital. Dr. Mohammad Hoesin Palembang, was included in this activity. The mean proportion of body fat mass was 35.01% + 9.03. As many as 6 (75%) men and 35 (83.3%) women had waist circumference exceeding normal. There were 2 people (4%) who had blood sugar levels> 200 g / dL, 18 people (36%) with cholesterol levels> 200 g / dL, and 12 people (24%) with blood pressure> 150/90 mmHg. Most of the elderly have central obesity and high cholesterol levels. There are participants who should receive therapy for having high blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure. Respondents who have risk of disease are advised to carry out further examinations. A dietary assistance program could be proposed to improve obesity conditions in future community service activities.
