Abstract

This study explained that the post-Covid world of work would demand a new set of employability skills. Higher education institutions need to respond by preparing graduates with manifest post-COVID-19 employability skills through innovatively delivered curricula. Through literature review, the study identified post-Covid-19 in-demands employability skills and ways of innovatively fostering them. The study adopted the descriptive survey method and canvassed (104) faculty members’ (from 9 public universities) opinions through an online poll on the skills they considered relevant for post-pandemic graduate employability and integrating them into universities curricula. Data collected were descriptively analyzed using frequency count and percentage. Findings showed that when universities commit to innovative curriculum delivery, students can easily acquire skills and competencies required to effective security and create jobs in the post-Covid job market effectively recommended that universities should innovate their curricula by integrating post-Covid in-demands skills needed for students’ post-Covid job market.

Abstract

This study combined computer simulation and predict-observe-explain as a new strategy known as Computer Simulation Supported Predict-Observe-Explain (CSSPOE) to explore other ways to facilitate the teaching and learning in physics. This strategy was tested in determining the conceptual understanding and scientific reasoning among grade school Filipino students. A quasi-experimental method was used to gather quantitative data from 38 participants then a case study was used to acquire information from the students. After the CSSPOE intervention, post-test results showed that students had positive conceptual changes, and this increase was significant. The interview data showed that participants pointed out the affordances of CSSPOE, such as visualization, autonomy, recognition of alternative conceptions, and consequently accommodating the scientific notions, and noticing the departure of the strategy from the usual lecture method. The recommendation is to adapt CSSPOE in the K to 12 science curriculum or even in college Physics classes. Physics teachers should strive to utilize constructivist and active learning approaches like CSSPOE.

Abstract

This study presented a secondary analysis of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) dataset. The paper examined if a gap exists between the mathematics scores of 12th-grade public school students who have different levels of interest in higher education. - This study used a quantitative descriptive research design to analyze data from the 2013, 2015, and 2019 NAEP data sets. The findings include (1) the average mathematics scale score of students who complete college entrance exams, ACT/SAT, is higher than those who do not complete these exams. (2) The average mathematics scale score of students who complete the FAFSA is higher than those who do not complete the FAFSA. (3) Students who applied to four-year colleges performed significantly higher on the 12th-grade mathematics NAEP than those who did not. (4) Students who applied to two-year colleges performed significantly lower on the 12th-grade mathematics NAEP than those who did not. (5) Students who perceived a future benefit to mathematics scored higher on the mathematics NAEP. These findings indicate that students who are interested in higher education, particularly four-year education, do have higher 12th NAEP mathematics scores. These findings may provide insight into college preparation and guidance at the high school level.

Abstract

Effective student assessment measures the rigor, effectiveness and quality of learning and teaching. There is a persistent concern among higher education practitioners about the accuracy and quality of academic supervision and assessment, particularly in areas of experiential learning. The purpose of this study was to critically evaluate practitioner conceptions on the effectiveness of supervision and assessment practices of industry-based learning in enhancing quality academic practices carried out at five universities in Zimbabwe. This paper analyses stakeholder views, reflections and understandings on student supervision and assessment processes in industry-based learning programs in Zimbabwe universities. Through interviews, focus group discussions, and open and closed questions in structured questionnaires, the participants in the mixed methods study, drawn from universities and their workplace partner organizations, give insights into their activities that characterize the dominant student supervision and assessment practices. The research results show that the participants were moderately satisfied with the overall assessment processes, raising concerns on quality issues, supervisor qualities and competencies, assessment visits by lecturers, and student guidance in the workplace. It is evident that the assessment systems in the work-integrated learning program in the affected universities not only compromised the desired confidence and trust of the students in their assessors but unsettled the assessors themselves, a situation that would naturally invite appropriate corrective action. Participative assessment, an approach where the facilitator seeks to directly involve and share the responsibility for assessment with learners is compatible with industry-based learning approaches because students can engage in self-regulation and intrinsically sanctioned learning.

Abstract

This study sought to determine potent policy tools which can be utilized as levers in reconstructing higher education landscapes that have been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Three key participants were purposivelselected for the in-depth interviews of the study. The sample consisted of a former minister of Higher and Tertiary Education in Zimbabwe and two current Regional Directors of Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) from Harare and Bulawayo regions. The study utilized the qualitative case study research design and a literature review to collect data to address the research question. The concept of hard and soft policy instruments and the Intervention Taxonomy were utilized as conceptual guides in data collection and the interpretation of results. The study results reveal that serious resistance to curriculum change and innovation in higher education can be overcome through the effective use of policy instruments. Policy tools can be utilized effectively and efficaciously to scale implementation barriers such as entrenched elitist cultures and practices, which are characteristic of higher education landscapes. More precisely, the study discovered that prudent and innovative application of a mix of hard and soft policy tools or instruments could effect sustainable and durable change. In view of this, the study recommends the use of policy tools as key levers in transforming and reconstructing higher education curricula and systems worldwide.

Abstract

The Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) is committed to ensuring that teachers serve until the end of their service. However, there is an increase in the intention for early retirement among teachers. Hence, this study aimed to identify the factors influencing early retirement intention among the teacher leaders of secondary schools. Seven teacher leaders were purposely selected: senior assistants, senior teachers, heads of departments, and heads of six core subjects for Malaysian Certificate Examination from secondary schools in Kelantan, Malaysia. The qualitative data obtained through interviews were analyzed thematically. The findings analysis found eight contributing factors: lack of information technology skills, health problems, role conflict, financially stable, career satisfaction, wanting family time, filling time meaningfully, and venturing into other fields. Abstract

This research analysed the studies of policy on issues related to COVID-19. The results show the most productive countries, the most frequently cited sources, the most co-occurred topics of studies concerning policy issues since the epidemic was a breakout at the beginning. The data in this research were collected from the Scopus database with two search terms, "COVID-19" and "policy" of the social science domain, and published from the first day of 2020 to the search time (September 10, 2020). The final dataset consists of 384 valid documents analysed by descriptive statistics, and co-occurrence analysis was applied in R. Among 46 countries, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, India, and Italy are the leading countries that published these studies. Almost all the funded scholars focused on Europe, the Americas, and Asia. The main topics of the articles are "working in COVID-19 period", "community health and social support," "using ICT in teaching and learning," "human rights." Within funded studies, four interesting topics are "social well-being," "ICT infrastructure," "agricultural policy," and "born-digital." This study presents the current situation of how studies concerning policy issues have been issued to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Management is a procedure of designing and sustaining an environment where everyone works together to attain the organization's goal. The study is a comparative analysis of the management practices of selected secondary public schools' dance troupe. This study is primarily anchored to the Skills Acquisition Theory (SAT). Specifically, the aims to identify the management practices and holistic development of the dance troupe members. The research study wants to determine the procedures in terms of rehearsals and training, community involvement, qualification of dancers, facilities, financial support, and the level of dancers' attributes in terms of attitude, discipline, and skills. The researcher also wants to determine if there is a significant relationship between the management practices and holistic development on the personal attributes of dance troupe members of the selected secondary public schools. Using a descriptive-quantitative methodology, a self-administered questionnaire was utilized in the survey of 172 dancers. The results revealed that dancers are well-disciplined and highly skilled. The management of the dance troupe struggles in terms of qualifications of the members, facilities, and financial support, which ultimately affect their preparation and training programs. Hence, there is a significant relationship between the management practices and holistic development of dance troupe members. The dance troupe's practices, skills, attitudes, and discipline have to maintain.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic urged a dramatic shift in the educational landscape, whereby digital platforms are utilized in teaching and learning. This new setup has posed challenges in teaching mathematics; hence, this study was conceptualized to explore the different teaching strategies and challenges math teachers encountered in their synchronous online classes (SOC). It aimed to draw analysis and increased understanding of the experiences related to teaching strategies and challenges, focusing on two essential aspects of teaching and learning: content and student engagement. Online in-depth interviews involving nine (9) Junior High School mathematics teachers of a private academic institution in Southern Luzon were conducted for data gathering. Results depict two significant themes as the participants' strategies in their SOC: teacher-directed instruction and motivational strategies.Meanwhile, three major themes emerged as challenges encountered by the participants: the role of the teacher, time constraints, and students' responsiveness. Findings suggest that some of the difficulties in synchronous online teaching may have resulted from the tendency to replicate face-to-face teaching in a virtual classroom and lack of technological proficiency. Hence, opportunities to enhance teachers’ knowledge and skills in digital pedagogies and more student-centered online teaching approaches can be a gateway to address the challenges posed.

Abstract

The covid-19 pandemic has significantly brought a lot of challenges and innovations to the educational sector. This study, therefore, examined the level of adoption of e-learning as an implication of the Covid-19 pandemic for teaching and learning of Arabic (ARA) and Islamic Studies (ISS) in Ogun State's tertiary institutions that offer either one or the two twin courses using descriptive survey research design. The population comprised all thirty-four (34) lecturers of the twin disciplines in the five (5) Ogun State’s tertiary institutions where the courses are offered. All the lecturers constituted the study sample using total enumeration sampling techniques. Findings from the study revealed relatively high knowledge of e-learning tools among the lecturers of ISS and ARA (A.W.M. = 2.91 > Criterion Mean of 2.50). However, this study also indicated that their levels of utilization were abysmally low (A.W.M. = 2.20 < Criterion Mean of 2.50). It was also found out that several challenges such as poor ICT knowledge of lecturers and students, lack of gadgets and poor network among others are barriers (A.W.M. = 3.06 > Criterion Mean of 2.50). This study concluded that to be more effective and efficient, Arabic and Islamic Study lecturers should further develop and improve their competency in using ICT resources for e-learning during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. It is recommended that Arabic and Islamic studies lecturers be proactive in acquiring sound functional digital knowledge to remain relevant in the profession.
