Abstract

Nowadays, many people do not notice their sentences when they talk to others whether it is polite or not. Sometime, people use harsh word when they ask help to others. Even in conveying their purpose, they often use impolite sentence. They do not also regard their background, like status of their position, their social distance and the level of their needs. The polite words are usually conveyed by someone when the level of his or her need is high. But, the distance and position status are also the factor that determine someone to use polite or impolite sentence in the daily conversation, especially in conveying her or his need. Someone who does not have a close relationship, he or she will affect the sentences which are used. The sentences which are used will sound more polite than the sentences that used by them who have a close relationship. Because the closer someone’s relationship is, the harsher the sentences which are used. Even sometimes it sounds rude of and impolite. Someone’s position also affects the sentences which are used in speaking. The higher of the position is, the more polite of the sentences which are used. Otherwise, the lower of someone’s position or in the same position, the less polite the sentences which are used. According to this facts, the writer analyzes the difference of polite or impolite sentence in the daily conversation. The data which are used are primary data and secondary data. The methods which are used in getting the data are “metode simak, metode sadap, teknik simak bebas libat cakap, teknik rekam, and teknik catat”. In analyzing the data, the writer uses “metode agih”. Whilemethod of data presentation which is used by the writer is descriptive study with informal method. From the result of the research, it can be concluded that someone’s social distance and position really affects the sentences used and polite sentence in the daily conversation. A close social distance will make the sentences which are used sound less polite and rude. But, when the social distance is not close, it will make the  sentences used sound polite and good. So in the position status, the higher of the position is, the more polite sentences used. Keywords: Politeness, Daily Convdersation, Social Distance, Close Relationship,Descriptive Study

Abstract

The existence of comics cannot be underestimated because in addition to trying to show sociological and physiological conditions, comics also record psychological symptomsrevealed through the dynamics of the personality of the characters contained in the story. The personality dynamics seen through the behavior of these figures help to reveal the meaning of the story as a whole.Psychologists have categorized defense mechanisms based upon how primitive they are. The more primitive a defense mechanism, the less effective it works for a person over the longterm. However, more primitive defense mechanisms are usually very effective short-term, and hence are favored by many people and children especially (when such primitive defense mechanisms are first learned). Adults who don’t learn better ways of coping with stress or traumatic events in their lives will often resort to such primitive defense mechanisms as well. The writer uses two methods of data collection to do this research about “The Anxious Effect of Character’s Switching Body in Webtoons Comic  Lookism”. They are library research anddescryptive analysis. the anxiety that Daniel Park exhibits is the neurotic anxiety, which appears continuously for fear of danger that seems to be threatening. Daniel Park's anxiety serves as a sign that there will be danger. Keywords: Webtoons, Personality, Defense Mechanism, Switching Body and Anxiety.

Abstract

The comedy genre drama of Shakespeare The Merchant of Venice is interesting to discuss because it contains topics which will give lessons about how to lead life. Hatred for example is a theme which is fascinating to discuss because it occurs in human life. Because of this, the writer decides to analyze it under the title of “Rusty Hatred in Shakespeare’s Comedy The Merchant of Venice”.The writer uses library research to get the main data of the text drama The Merchant of Venice. Secondary data, such as opinions of the experts are taken from various sources like books, webs, internet and so forth. The approach that the writer uses is structural approach because it is an approach that concerns about the elements that build a literary work, like theme, character, setting, plot and so forth.Hatred that the Jewish Shylock possesses is increasing to extreme level. It starts from his being mocked and labelled as a dog until being spitted on cloak and beard that happen many times. Besides that, his business of interest is being constrained because Antonio, a rich Christian merchant, takes no interest of lending his money. This condition makes Shylock hateful, plans to revenge, and kills Antonio carefully. The type of hatred that Shylock has is racial and religious. Shylock hates Antonio because he is a Christian, not a Jew, and vice versa. On the other hand, Antonio also hates Shylock because Shylock is not a local citizen, just a new comer and moreover he is greedy for money by interest. His rusty hatred has made him bepunished by court, acquisition on all his wealth and the obligation to be Christian because he has planned to kill a local Christian Venetian, Antonio.Key words: The Merchant of Venice, hatred, William Shakespeare, racism

Abstract

The writer is interested in discussing the 47 Ronin movie script with the title “A Psychological Study of the Samurai Dedication in 47 Ronin Movie Script” because it contains not only unique culture of suicidal action but also the action is highly respected in Japan. Besides, it also contains dedication and loyalty of followers to their master. The thesis research is conducted through the research in library room, here he gets primary data in the form of script from the movie. The writer also uses opinions from some experts (secondary data) to support his analysis. In the discussion, the writer also talks about intrinsic and extrinsic elements. Mentioning intrinsic elements because a literary works contains elements that build it, like characters, theme, plot, setting and point of view. And extrinsic elements are elements that exist outside a literary work but it has correlation with intrinsic elements. In the analysis, the writer finds out that the Samurai members of Ako area cannot accept their master to be blamed when the master (Lord Asano) has conflict with Lord Kira of high rank official. The two must be judged guilty. Lord Asano must commit seppuku and be beheaded as ordered by Shogun; not Lord Kira. The unfair judgment has triggered Lord Asano followers to take revenge. There are 47 samurai or ronin who take the action, and successful. Consequently, they (as regulated) must commit seppuku too but with honor, not hanged like criminals; because the ronin demand justice. People of Japan also honor them as great dedication.Oishi saves his Samurai members from launching a stupid attack on Lord Kira and Shogun elite troops. He must restrain himself and his members to do it at other time. This means that he still keeps his logic. Therefore, he is an ego character in the story. Kai who is not genuinely Samurai is a superego character. Because of his sacrifice the 47 Ronin under the coordinator of Oishi are able to defeat Lord Kira followers. Kai helps to kill the monster who is hovering and killing samurai members in the forest. Kai also supports the ronin to get lethal weapon that is difficult to get. Kai also kills a powerful witch or beautiful magician who always supports Lord Kira. On the other hand, Lord Kira is fully driven by id because he wants to kill and trap Lord Asano to take over his land, his area. He also drives away Ako people from the village. He keeps a concubine to trick the opponent to be defeated. Keywords: id, ego, superego, psychological analysis
