Abstract

[Title: The Affixation Process in Verb Incorporation in Balinese Language] The incorporation of verbs in Balinese language requires the morphological process of the word that will replace the verb position. The incorporation process in Balinese is usually followed by affixation process. This article aims to explain the affixation process of incorporating verbs in Balinese language. The source of data of this research is a modern Balinese story book titled Tutur Bali by I Wayan Westa (2013). The data of this research is obtained through library method with technique of note. The data obtained were classified according to the type of affixation that occurs. The classified data were analyzed using the distributional method. The result of analysis is presented by informal method. Based on the analysis that has been conducted, the affixation process found in the case of incorporation of verbs involves the process of prefixation, the process of suffixation, and the process of adding the affix combination. The prefixing process involves the addition of ma- and N-. Furthermore, the process of suffixation includes the addition of the suffix -in. The last morphological process is the addition of a combination of affixes such as N-in, N-ang, ma-an, ma-in, ka-in, -ang-a, and -in-a.

Abstract

[Title: A Generative Morphology Study in ‘Satua Bali Tales from Bali'] The diversity and uniqueness of language in the world is an interesting linguistic phenomenon to be studied. Word formation is one of interesting research object, because every language of course has diversity in word formation which is called as morphology process. The theory used in this paper is a theory that is written by experts in the field of morphology. The theory used is the theory of morphology, namely: the theory of generative morphology by Halle (1973), Aronaff (1976), and Scalise (1984). Some examples of words were found in "Satua Bali Tales From Bali". The words were classified into words with prefixes, infix, suffixes and confix. In the data found that there were affixes found in the beginning of the word basic (prefix), inserts on the word (infix), suffix on the word base (suffix) or prefix and suffix that appeared together in the word base (confix). In the data also found the word that experienced nasalization process. In the prefix analysis found the fair form, potential and unnatural forms. In the infix analysis only found the fair form. In the suffix analysis found an unusual inverse form in the data. Unusual (strange) inverse forms can cause problems, because in society, those forms are not commonly used. In the confix analysis there was a reasonable invention. There was also a word that experienced a process of nasalization. For example the form of nepukin "see".

Abstract

[Title: Nominalization in Balinese Language] The study deal with the process of nominal formation (nominalization) and Nominal structure of Balinese language. The data being analyzed is obtained from the researcher’s intuition that is the gained from language potency of the researcher as a native Balinese speaker. In addition, the data was also gained from Balinese texts such as novels, short stories, and folk tales. As a reference in analyzing the data it is applied X-bar theory developed by N, Chomsky and his adherers from the beginning of 1970-s. The most important essence of this theory is that every phrase structure has head. In other words, that every phrase structure is endocentric in nature. At the initial phrase, this theory was developed to describe phrasal category, then it was applied for clausal level. Recently, this theory is applied to analyze word level (Xo). Nouns in Balinese can be base and derived nouns. Derived nouns can be formed through some process: affixation, compounding, reduplication, and derivation of clauses. Nouns in Balinese can place syntactical functions such as subject, predicate, object, complement, and adverb.

Abstract

A metaphor can be identified in two ways, they are; in a wider sense and a specific sense. This article is only focused on figurative speech in specific sense. In its specific sense it always has three elements, namely: topic, image and the point of similarity. Metaphor then can be classified into two, they are: dead and live metaphors. The aims of this research are: (1) to identify the English metaphors in the English novel, (2) to know the classification of the metaphors, and (3) to identify the structures of metaphors. The data of this research are all collected from an English novel entitled Master of the Game written by Sidney Sheldon (1982) so then the method applied here is of course library research. The theory applied here is proposed by George Lakoff (1979). The result of this research shows that (1) there is always an anomaly meaning in the metaphor, (2) there are two types of metaphors, they are: dead and live, and (3) not all elements of the metaphor are always explicitly stated.
