This essay discusses the identity of Jesus as the Son of God according to Luke 3:21-22. By using the historical-critical method, the author intends to underline the main message of Luke 3:21-22 that witnesses Jesus Christ as the Son of God. His identity comes from God Himself. At the baptism in the Jordan river, God declared before many people that Jesus was His beloved Son. The identity of Jesus as the Son of God reveals a special relationship between Jesus and His Father. The relationship is not a biological relationship between father and son, but a divine one. Jesus is the Son of God who was anointed to bring salvation to mankind.

Selapanan is one of the important rituals in Javanese society. This ritual serves as an expression of gratitude to God for the infant and its mother, as well as asking for safety for the newborn. This paper aims to discuss the theology of inculturation in Selapanan rituals. The author uses the IPA (Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis) method to describe and find the meaning of the Selapanan ritual for Catholic families. The author finds selapanan to be an opportunity to “numumi” (just like the others) and “nguri-uri Kakulturn Jawi” (preserving Javanese culture). This study also intends to offer the possibility that Selapanan ritual would become a locus theologicus for inculturation efforts in the Catholic Church. True inculturation is directed at finding the theological meaning contained behind rituals. In the context of the Selapanan ritual, there are two things to note. First, the salvation of infants does not lie solely in performing rituals, but primarily in faith in Jesus Christ. Second, the prayer for ancestors in Selapanan can be compared to the communio sanctorum in the Catholic tradition.

The essay presents a philosophical discussion on the question of God’s existence during the time of covid-19. Methodologically it is a qualitative study. The author develops his argument by studying some relevant literature on the topics. The literature study focuses on some concepts of western and easter philosophy regarding the root of human suffering. The result shows that the fact of suffering does not derive from God, but from the free will of human beings. In Buddhism suffering is thought of as dukkha that exists from the very beginning of human life. To be free from this dukkha, man must live the so-called liberating paths of truth. In the western concept, suffering has nothing to do with God, because God himself did not create or will the suffering. God only wants to be consistent with His creation, namely to give full freedom to the creatures.

The starting point of this essay is the fact of human suffering which resulted from the Covid-19 pandemic, where the faithful attempt to persevere in managing life both in the Church and the society. The paper attempts to find inspiration from The Epistle to the Hebrews that consoles the believers in the time of persecution. Its author uses the word Hypomonē (perseverance) to address the readers in Emperor Nero's time who were suffering for their belief in Christ. The Epistle uses an educational tradition to highlight perseverance known in both Hebrew and Greek societies. The text invites readers to persevere in this suffering like an athlete who must train in face of competition, and like a child who is educated in discipline and love by his father.

This essay discusses the philosophy of education according to Paulo Freire, specifically methodology in the education process. The main question deals with the contribution of Freire's thought to the education system in Indonesia. Through literature review, the author underlines the concept of education as a process of liberation. Education is no longer regarded as a transfer of knowledge, but a process of change to create social structures that are more just and humane. Freire criticizes the bank-style education model which makes the teacher the subject, while the student as an object like an empty box to be filled. According to Freire, education should be developed as problem-posing education, namely education that aims at posing and discussing actual problems. It can be the main inspiration for the education system in Indonesia. This approach allows students to freely and creatively recognize their abilities and the reality of the problem objectively-contextually and respond appropriately to problems by creating productive and changing-oriented works.

Traditionally, the story about the manager in Luke 16:1b-8a is considered a difficult text. Apart from the controversial ending of the text, the details of the story are not easy to understand. Saint Cyril of Alexandria, in his commentary, said that trying to explain the details of the story is useless. The details of the story are taken only to form an allusion to the problem to be conveyed. The effect of neglecting this detail, for centuries, the act of reducing debts carried out by the manager was considered a dishonest act. By using narrative analysis, this article wants to show that reducing debt is not a dishonest act but a prudent act. It is precisely in the act of reducing the debt that the manager's prudence lies in the story.

The essay deals with the so-called Marari Sabtu in the Parmalim tradition as a bridge for the Christian mission to Parmalim followers. The starting point is the fact of similarity in terms of worship day between the Parmalim tradition and the biblical testimony, namely the observance of Sabbat. Parmalim observes the tradition of “Marari Sabtu”, which is a weekly worship ceremony to worship Debata Mulajadi Nabolon, and worship takes place every Saturday. The research question is: Can the similarity in terms of worship day be a bridge for evangelism for Permalim followers? This paper shows that Paul's method to the Athenians can be a model for evangelization efforts for Parmalins. It means that an effort to contextualize faith can be carried out for Parmalim followers by starting from the Marari Sabtu tradition.

This article aims to explain on Arne Naess’ notion of relation between religion and nature. For Naess, relation between religion and nature has double face. On the one hand, religion is a good source for human being in understanding nature and himself. Religion teaches man how to creates a mutual relation with nature. On the other hand, religion is also the source of ecological crisis since through biblical interpretation which is anthropological oriented gives man knowledge and power to control even exploits nature wantonly. Therefore, to stop ecological crisis we need to shift our anthropological interpretation to an ecological interpretation. Using descriptive and analysis method, this study hopes to contribute on understanding of Naess’ concept on relation between religion and nature.
