Abstract

The purpose of this essay is to clarify Ibn Sina's views on the spirit and its connection to the body. A qualitative approach is used in this research to conduct a review of the literature. This study's methodology is an investigation into Islamic literacy using both main and secondary data sources. The body and the soul are different entities or made up of diverse materials, according to Ibn Sina. The soul is not gone when the body is destroyed. The soul lasts forever. Even though the body and the soul are made up of distinct substances, they are both interdependent. It is impossible to separate the soul from the body. The tendency of western philosophical thought toward dualism of soul and body is overcome by Ibn Sina's idea. The relationship between both the body and the spirit demands.

Abstract

This article deals with the ontological philosophy of Martin Heidegger in the context of discovering the meaning of liturgical symbols, specifically one of liturgical music and chant in the Catholic Church. The aim of this study is to explain the symbolic meaning of liturgical music and chant and to reflect on its relevance in enriching the liturgical capacity of the faithful. The paper is intended as a literature review. The author reviews Louis-Marie Chauvet's book, Symbol and Sacrament, as well as other works about Heidegger's philosophy, such as the writings of Armada Riyanto. This study finds that liturgical symbols, such as music and chants performed in the liturgy, are not merely entertainment to please the eyes and ears of the people. These are symbols that transmit the content and the message of faith. The performance of liturgical symbols can help people understand and experience the strength and beauty of liturgical celebrations.

Abstract

This writing aims to observe the inheritance of Hellenistic Ethics for Modern Ethics. Through literature research, Epicureanism and Stoicism, two major contradicted Hellenistic movements, are used to look for how modern people get happiness. Epicureanism and Stoicism are both in tension to answer the question about what people find in themselves. Aristotle answered this finding with the idea of eudaimonia. Therefore, ethics for pursuing happiness in modern life might be seen as the art of living, as Hellenistic wisdom lived out differently, either Epicureanism or Stoicism. Both are contradictory, yet offer the value of how life must be carried out such as making a craft, in the sense of tekne or "craft with knowledge."

Abstract

Justus Lipsius drew up an intellectual project to reconcile stoic thought with Christianity. In this project, Lipsius started with two assumptions. First, Stoicism's “divine fire” as the highest principle is to be explained by making reference to Scripture where God manifests himself through fire. Second, destiny is a manifestation and an expression of Divine Providence that plays an important part in concrete situations. Has Justus Lipsius been successful at reconciling the Stoics and Christianity? This paper is intended to address this question using a literature review approach. The author goes through the philosophical thoughts of neo-stoicism, Justus Lipsius. Basically, Stoicism showed differences to Christianity. Stoicians believe that the Divine is material. Destiny and divine providence become one. Both are a series of causes that bring matters to mechanical work. Consequently, the space for freedom is almost nonexistent because stoic humans wish to align themselves with Nature fully. Christianity tells the opposite. God is nonmaterial, and the nuances of human freedom are held in high regard. As a result, Lipsius could not reconcile the Stoics with Christianity.

Abstract

Narasi Tabut Perjanjian dalam Kitab Tawarikh cukup panjang. Bagaimana seharusnya kita membaca narasi ini? Apa pesan teologisnya?

Abstract

This article aims to reveal several points regarding the quality of listening in building a synodal Church by learning from listening experiences among the Catholics of Manado Diocese. By using a phenomenological approach, we want to describe the experiences of Catholics in listening interactions in their lives of faith, and how people interpret that experience. The data collection was obtained in conjunction with the focus group discussion process which was carried out in this diocese ahead of the 2023 Synod of Bishops. It was found that both positive qualities and challenges can be found in various communities, lay and clergy, leaders of the people and the people they lead. By carefully appreciating these aspects in the light of Church models, the article provides strategic suggestions for reflection and pastoral action not only in Manado Diocese but also for the wider Church to build a better listening Church.
