This research uses a qualitative method of scriptive, with a case study approach that focuses on boarding school Dar El Hikmah Pekanbaru Riau, Indonesia. The source of this research data is the main informant, namely the manager and teacher of pesantren. Data collection is done with structured interviews. The results of this study showed that the pattern of education carried out in boarding school Dar El Hikmah Pekanbaru implemented a limited learning pattern, namely limiting some students to study at home and others doing learning in dormitories. The manager carries out three stages of activities, namely the stage of preparation, implementation and supervision. In the application of formal learning activities are conducted online for students who live at home, using the Google Classroom app, and e-learning. While living in a dormitory, can study offline or face-to-face with teachers, while obeying health protocols. Compliance with the rules of adhere to health protocols is done well by pesantren managers, by putting up appeals through banners, loud speakers, and 24-hour picket officers. In addition, the manager also requires all teachers and students to wear masks, provide hand washing facilities along with handshops, and prepare isolation rooms in anticipation of emergencies. The implication of this research is that pesantren always gets challenged to carry out its role and function as an Islamic educational institution, therefore openness and preparedness in reforming in various aspects of managerial needs to be put forward.

Abstract

This article aims to explain the epistemology of Thomas S. Kuhn's concept of Shifting Paradigm (1922-1996), a postmodernist with its philosophical, physical, and historical expertise, and the relevance of his thinking in Islamic science. The research is a qualitative study using the epistemological point of view to analyze. Kuhn’s view on the Shifting Paradigm is analyzed based on the important points in the epistemology: the source and substance of knowledge; the instrument of knowledge; how to acquire knowledge; the theory of truth; and  the validation of the truth of knowledge. The study finds that, first, the source and substance of science is the history of science. Second, the instrument of knowledge is the paradigm of science. Third, knowledge is acquired from the shifting process from the pre paradigm, normal science, anomalies, crises, to a new paradigm. Fourth, normal science is the theory of the truth. Fifth, the anomaly becomes the validation of the truth. Kuhn’s thinking of the Shifting Paradigm is relevant to Islamic science because it can be used as a method to explain the transformation of Islamic science. This paper is vital in discussing the relevance of Kuhn’s thinking to Islamic science. Despite many significant numbers of text on Kuhn's thinking, researchers have not found a text that especially discusses on the epistemology of the Kuhn’s conception of Shifting Paradigme and point out its relevance to the transformation of Islamic science.

Abstract

This research is aimed to know phases of competency, attitude and Islamic teachers’ issue in using computer for learning process. This research uses qualitative and quantitative mixed method (explanatory mixed methods design). Quantitative data were obtained from sixty-four Islamic teachers by using questionnaire and were analyzed with descriptive statistics through SPSS Windows Version 15.0. Meanwhile, Qualitative data were taken from eight teachers through intensive interview and were analyzed thematically by using software NVivo 7. Results of the research show that the teachers’ competency in using computer is still at poor phase (Mean = 2.32, SD = 0.22), while their attitude toward that issue in learning process is very positive (Mean = 3.94, SD = 0.36). Furthermore, Qualitative results find that there are four important themes related with the issue enforced by the teachers in applying computer to the learning process. Such are; i) lower self-competency to use computer, ii) lack of computer facilities provided in shool, iii) lack of computer training for the teachers, and iv) lack of time in designing computer-based learning due to over-task issue in the school.
