Abstract

The purpose of this study are to find out whether increasing students 'mathematical connection ability with learning using the SAVI approach is better with conventional learning, to find out how students' mathematical connection skills with learning the SAVI approach, and to find out a positive relationship between students 'attitudes towards learning using the SAVI approach with increasing students' mathematical connection abilities. This research method is a quasi experiment that tests the use of SAVI approach to the experimental class and conventional learning in the control class. Sampling using purposive sampling. The selected sample is X MIA 1 as the experimental class and X MIA 4 as the control class. The instrument used was a test instrument for mathematical connection ability and a non-attitude scale questionnaire test. The material in this study was Trigonometry. The results of this study are: (1) improvement of students' mathematical connection ability with the SAVI approach is better than with conventional learning, (2) students' mathematical connection skills with learning with the SAVI approach are good, (3) there is no positive relationship between students 'attitudes towards learning with the SAVI approach with increasing students' mathematical connection abilities.

Abstract

Students also have not been able to formulate interactions between given elements, questions to be solved, and appropriate mathematical concepts to solve the problem. As a result, the achievement of students' geometry competencies is in the gap towards the goals. Therefore, this study aims to determine the differences in the achievement of geometry competence of students on plane geometry subject between cooperative learning type Teams Games Tournament (TGT) and pair checks. This research was conducted on a sample of 72 people, that is 36 students with TGT type cooperative learning and 36 students with pair checks type learning. Samples were selected by cluster random sampling. This research is a quasi-experimental with posttest only nonequivalent control group design. Quantitative data were obtained using test instruments. Research data were analyzed by parametric statistics. Based on data analysis, it was concluded that there were differences in achievement of students' geometry competencies between TGT type cooperative learning and pair checks on plane geometry subject. Model pair checks is an alternative to learning geometry.

Abstract

Not infrequently when students are dealing with mathematics problems where they do not know what they are supposed to do. Learning in class can make a habituation to students. This study aims to determine whether or not there are differences in achievement of students' Low Order Thinking (LOT) abilities between learning Probing Prompting (PP) and Realistic Mathematics (MR) on quadrilateral. This research was conducted with a total sample of 60 students, namely 30 students in class VIIA with PPL learning and 30 students in class VIIB with MR learning. The sample selection is done by cluster random sampling. The instruments used to collect data are based on three dimensions in the cognitive domain, namely remembering, understanding, and applying. The results of the descriptive statistical analysis of the data show that the average achievement of students in the PP learning group is equal to 75.36, while the average achievement of students in the MR group is equal to 68.53. Based on the results of data analysis, it was concluded that there were significant differences in the LOT achievement of students between PP and MR learning on Quadrilateral material.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine differences in students' mathematical understanding abilities between those using Cabri 3D by using ordinary learning models. This research is a quasi-experimental research. The sample of the research was grade VIII students of one junior high school in Cibinong. The research instrument used was pretest and posttest. Research data were analyzed using t-test. The results of this study indicate that the mathematical understanding ability of students who learn with 3D cabri media is better than students who study with ordinary learning.

Abstract

The purpose of the research for to know the difference mathematical generalization ability of student are taught by use guided discovery learning and expository. The research was held at SMPN 21 Bekasi in second semester academic year 2016-2017. The sample is class VII.2 and VII.5 (76 students). This research used quasi-experimental with statistic group comparison or post-test-only with nonequivalent groups design. Instrument be used is an essay test to measure mathematical reflective thinking ability. Before tested instrument analyzed by correlation product moment to test the validity, reliability by formula alpha cronbach and an index of the lurch. The data is analyzed firstly be done test regulation is test normality with Lilliefors and also test homogeneity by using Fisher. The result of normality test of class experiment and control can be conclude that both of the sample are from normal distribution. While the result of homogeneity test can be conclude the population of both have a homogeneity variance. The result of research were obtained t result is 5,29 with significance ? is 0,05. The result of research showed a difference mathematical generalization ability of student through guided discovery learning and expository.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine whether the Think Pair Share learning model assisted by comics was more effective than without using comics for the ability to solve mathematical problems. This research is included in quasi-experimental research because it has a control group, but it cannot function fully in controlling external variables that affect the implementation of the experiment. The population of this study was all students of class VII of SMP Negeri 5 Yogyakarta in the second semester of 2018/2019 academic year. The sampling technique used is the Random Cluster technique. The results showed that the TPS-assisted comic-learning model was no more effective than the TPS-without comic-learning model in terms of mathematical problem-solving abilities

Abstract

This research aims to describe the mathematical representation abilities of vocational school students in terms of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, as well as learning styles that have the best representational abilities in mathematics learning. The research was conducted at SMK Negeri 2 Cilaku Cianjur. The research method used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. The subjects in this study were all 29 students of class X TKJ 2 with purposive sampling technique. The data used are written tests to reveal mathematical representation abilities, observation and questionnaires to classify students based on learning styles, interviews with students. Data processing used descriptive analysis of the percentage of posttest scores, learning styles by looking at the percentage of observation statements and answers to student questionnaire statements. The results of the data analysis showed that the percentage of achievement of the mathematical representation ability of students with a visual learning style was 71.43% in the sufficient category, students with the auditory learning style 71.25% in the sufficient category, and students with the kinesthetic learning style 73.89% with the sufficient category. The kinesthetic learning style has the best representation ability in mathematics learning with a percentage of 73.89% with a sufficient category.

Abstract

Spatial ability is an important one of the abilities for completing many tasks in everyday life successfully. Spatial ability is considered a type of different ability to others. Therefore, there needs a study on how are the characteristics of spatial abilities and to develop in schools. This paper is to reveal the ways are developing spatial abilities in learning mathematics. Based on literature review from some research, at least that there are six ways to develop spatial abilities in learning mathematics, namely: (1) using spatial language in daily interactions; (2) teaching for sketching and drawing; (3) using a suitable game; (4) using a tangram; (5) using video games; and (6) origami and folding paper. Playing video games like Tetris are exercises for spatial relations, mental rotation, spatial orientation, and spatial visualization.

Abstract

This study aims to discuss the analysis of the application of character education in mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 1 Simpangkatis class VIII and MA Muhammadiyah Gantung class X MIA. Mathematics learning is used as a medium and a vehicle for character building. By advancing character education in mathematics, Mathematics Learning is no longer to support the development of the cognitive domain but also to develop the affective domain. The research method used a qualitative approach with qualitative descriptive methods. Data collection used observation and interview sheets. The research findings show that character education has been applied in mathematics learning at SMP Negeri 1 Simpangkatis and MA Muhammadiyah Gantung. As for learning activities that can foster character values, including praying together, the teacher giving worksheets and students working in groups, students presenting the results of their work in front of the class. The character referred to is having a strong attitude, discipline, tolerance, solidarity, hard work, responsibility, competitiveness and sportsmanship.

Abstract

This research aims are to know: (1) are there differences in learning outcomes between learning models Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFE) and Probing-Prompting (PP)?; (2) whether there are differences in student learning outcomes with high, medium and low reasoning abilities?; and (3) whether there is an interaction effect between learning models and mathematical reasoning on student learning outcomes. This quantitative research is a quasi experiment. The research sample was 80 students in grade 8 at SMP Islam Dewan Da’wah. The sampling technique by cluster random. The research results is: (1) there is no difference in student mathematics learning outcomes between SFE and PP learning models; (2) Student learning outcomes of high mathematical reasoning abilities are better than moderate and low, and student learning outcomes of moderate mathematical reasoning abilities are better than low; (3) not for all student learning outcomes from high, medium and low level of reasoning abilities in SFE learning are better than PP model. In each model, learning outcomes from students’ high level of mathematical reasoning abilities are better than moderate and low, and student learning outcomes from moderate level of mathematical reasoning abilities are better than low.
