Abstract

The prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has continued to increase in Asian countries in recent decades. Many studies have revealed that obesity in general or abdominal obesity causes a significant increase in the risk of GERD symptoms. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference with the incidence of GERD in the adult population of Palembang city. This study was observational research with a cross-sectional design. The population was all adults (≥20 years) of Palembang. The number of samples was 400 people. Data were taken from a self-completed questionnaire, distributed through social media, then analyzed using logistic regression analysis. Among 400 subjects in the study, there were 81 subjects (20.3%) diagnosed with GERD, 43 subjects (10.8%) were overweight, 79 subjects (19.8%) were obese, and 160 subjects(40%) had abdominal obesity. There was a significant relationship between obesity and diagnosis of GERD (p=0,001; OR =2,799; CI 95% = 1,545-5,069). In contrast, there was no significant relationship between being overweight and diagnosis of GERD. There was also no significant relationship between abdominal obesity and diagnosis of GERD. Obesity has a significant association with the diagnosis of GERD, but the absence of an association between overweight and diagnosis of GERD implies that increased BMI is not an independent risk factor in diagnosis of GERD.

Abstract

The installation of tarpaulins on the body of pickup trucks is often used to protect goods from heat and rain, which affect airflow patterns, pressure distribution, and vehicle aerodynamics. This research was conducted to determine the airflow pattern and pressure distribution characteristics such as static pressure, dynamic pressure, and pressure coefficient that affect the performance of a tarpaulin-fitted pickup truck. Experimental tests were carried out on 6 specimens, namely pickup trucks without using a tarp or baseline, pickup trucks fitted with tonneau cover tarpaulins (type A), Aerocap tarpaulins with an angle of 0° (type B) and 12° (type C), and Cincing tarpaulins with foot angle of 30° (Type D) and 15° (Type E) in the wind tunnel at a speed of 5.47 m/s. The results showed that the more aerodynamic the use of tarpaulins resulted in a streamlined flow pattern, as shown by the use of 12° aerocap tarpaulins, which had more aerodynamic flow and the most stable fluctuations in the Cp value, blockage mass, and smaller obstacles compared to other pickup trucks.

Abstract

The use of an air conditioner (AC) increases the use of compressors and electricity supply quite significantly. This will increase global warming and the occurrence of an energy crisis. Referring to this, a cooling system that is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly is needed. One alternative is to use natural materials as adsorbents in adsorption air conditioning. In this system, changes in humidity levels occur due to the process of absorption of air moisture in each test material in the packed bed. The purpose of this research is to determine the regeneration characteristics of natural materials and activated carbon, as well as their performance against moisture. The characteristics tested also include contact angle test and proximate test. In addition to the type of material, mass variations of 200gr, 400gr, and 600gr are also carried out as well as variations in the combination between materials. The results obtained from the regeneration test 9 times, natural ingredients affect air conditioning. The larger the mass tested, the greater its ability to reduce humidity. In another sense, 600gr activated carbon provides the most optimal performance among other natural materials, both in mass variations and combined variations.
