Abstract

This study focused on Indonesia Language influences shifting in Simalungun Language. The problem of the study is “How is Simalungun Language shift in Pematangsiantar.” The objective of the study is to determine the factor that influences the Simalumgun Language shift in Pematangsiantar. The significance of the research is 1) Theoretically, the study considered to enrich the theory of language planning especially about Simalungun language shift in Pematangsiantar and the reason of Simalungunese shift into Indonesian. 2) Practically, the result of the study is considered to contribute information about language shift in Simalungunese for the researcher. The findings of the research are Language shift (especially Simalungunism) in the second and the third generation is influence by bilingualism, migration, economic factor, value and attitude, The pattern of Language shift is done through the shift of Simalungun Language to the Indonesian Language in second and the third generation and The reason of the language shift (Simalungun language) into Indonesian are social success and the status of Indonesian Language

Abstract

This research agrees with the finding data which is improving students’ speaking ability through series picturesin speaking lesson in SMK Swasta Taman Pendidikan on Jalan Radjamin Purba, SH Pasar I-A Perdagangan, Kecamatan Bandar – Kabupaten Simalungun. An action research class is conducted to define the solution to improving students’ achievement in speaking. Through this research, the researcher shared the result of the students speaking capabilities after using series of pictures. The datum shows the comparison between students’ speaking ability using pictures and without using pictures. The design of this research was experimental quantitative research which aims to know the effect of the series of pictures in the students speaking learning activity. In collecting the data of the research, the researcher had to do three steps as a pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The result of the tests shows that students’ speaking ability is improved through using pictures series

Abstract

This study aims to find the effect of the SCROL strategy (survey, relationship, reading, outline, retrospect) on the reading narrative of grade VIII students at PTPN IV Bah Jambi Private Middle School. There are several reference sources used in writing this research journal as well as conducting direct research on class VIII students of PTPN IV Bah Jambi Private Middle School. T.P. 2020/2021. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the SCROL strategy (survey, relationship, read, outline, look back) had a beneficial effect in improving students' narrative reading skills on the SCROL strategy (survey, relationship, reading, outline, looking back).

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the effect of using the Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) strategy on students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. In this research, the researcher used quantitative research and the method of this research is experimental research by used a true-experimental research design. The population of this research was the students of the tenth grade PMIA SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar, there are seven classes and the total population in this research was 249 students. To determine the sample, the researcher make a lottery, the sample of this research was two classes. The first class is taken from X PMIA-6 with 36 students as control class and the second class is taken from X PMIA-7 with 36 students as an experimental class. So, the total sample in this research is 72 students. In analyzing the data, the researcher used SPSS version 2.1. The result of this research was the students’ score pre-test in the control class is 1876 with a mean score of 52.11 and the students’ score post-test in the control class is 2152 with a mean score of 59.78. Before the treatment of the Two Stay Two Stray strategy, the student's prior knowledge in reading comprehension was less with score pre-test are 1870 with the mean score of 51.94. After the treatment using the Two Stay Two Stray strategy, the students’ score post-test in reading comprehension had been improved are 2808 with a mean score of 78.00. It means that the scores of the experimental class are higher than in the control class because the researcher conducted the research in the experimental class by using a treatment (Two Stay Two Stray Strategy). Then the results of hypothesis testing using T-Test obtained count (9.86) >ttable (1.66), it can be concluded that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means that the use of Two Stay Two Stray strategy affects significantly students’ reading comprehension at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah penggunaan teknik P-Q-R-S-T (pratinjau, pertanyaan, membaca, menyatakan, dan menguji) meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa. Ada beberapa sumber referensi yang digunakan penulis untuk menulis jurnal penelitian ini serta melakukan penelitian langsung terhadap siswa kelas X SMA Negeri 1 Silimakuta T.P.2019/2020 dalam teks cerita. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data ditemukan bahwa teknik P-Q-R-S-T (pratinjau, pertanyaan, membaca, menyatakan, dan menguji) secara signifikan meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pemahaman siswa X SMA Negeri 1 Silimakuta T.P.2019/2020

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the implementation of the Wholesome Scattering Game in improving the students’ ability in writing descriptive text. The population of this research was all of the eighth-grade students of SMP N 3 Pematangsiantar, which consisted of 312 students as the population and 31 as the sample. This research was conducted by Classroom Action Research with two cycles. The finding of this research is the researcher got good results from activities of teaching descriptive text using the Wholesome Scattering Game technique. The quantitative data was taken from the tests, which were pre-test and post-test in the first cycle and post-test II in the second cycle. The improvement in the mean of the pre-test is 57,61 in the first cycle. But it increases to be 74,19 in the post-test. And researcher found that the mean score of students increased up to be 80.67 in post-test II in the second cycle. The difference calculation of the mean in cycle I am 16.58, and the standard deviation is 5.2. Besides that, the standard error for the mean difference is 0.95. And researcher found that the t-test of this research was 17.45, with the effect size of the test was 3.18. The explanation previously shows that applying the Wholesome Scattering Game technique can improve their writing ability. The difference calculation in the second cycle (post-test I and post-test II), the mean was 6.48, and the standard deviation was 2.33. Besides that, the standard error for the mean difference was 0.42, and the t-test was 15.42. To improve that the Wholesome Scattering Game was very significant to improve students’ writing skills especially in descriptive text, the researcher give the result of the effect size, namely was 2.78. Based on the explanation above, the researcher concludes that wholesome scattering game is effective to be used in teaching writing descriptive text which could interesting and useful to increase students' writing ability and students will not bored and passive in the class because they learn while interacting with wholesome scattering game

Abstract

This research is focused on learning writing by using the Estafet writing method at SMP Swasta Bukit Cahaya 2020/2021. The design of this research is quantitative research by using the theory of Aarikunto 2010 the researcher got the technique of collecting the data and analyzing the data and the researcher used Pre-test and Post-test as the way of collecting the data. the population of this research is 23 students the researcher will take all the population as the sample. The data were collected by using the Pre-test and Post-test, the Pre-test was given before the treatment and the Post-test was given after the treatment. The result of the research shows the differences between the students’ ability to write narrative text before and after the treatment. Starting by the mean which taking all the scores from the student's test in total and is divided by the student's total and the researcher got for the Pre-test is 52 and for the Post-test is 84. The standard deviation is 17,2. The effect size is 1,8. In the use of the estate writing method, it can be seen that it’s improving the students writing narrative text-ability at SMP Swasta Bukit Cahaya 2020/2021. The researcher also used the theory of Jacobs (1981) to gather the data by using the rubric scoring table which consists of Content, Organization, Vocabulary, Language Use, And Mechanics

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of Using Animation Movies in Improving the Students’ Writing Skills at the Tenth Grade of SMA N 4 Pematangsiantar. This research was conducted with a quantitative content analysis method. The sample of this research was 71 students that get from tenth grade especially in a social class with using two-class where 35 students from the control class and 36 students from the experimental class which the populations were 105 students. The data of this research is the writing test students’ writing skill of narrative text that collect with pre-test and post-test. Then the result of this research was the score of pre-test and post-test experimental class that gives an animation movies media is higher from control class where the pretest control score < 1970 (pretest of experimental) and posttest control 2118 <2380 (posttest of experimental) with the hypothesis, count (6.407) >ttable (1.994) at the significance level α=0,05 with the degrees of freedom (df) = 34. So, Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. It could be conducted that the use of Animation Movies Media effect Significantly in improving the students’ Writing Skills at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar

Abstract

This Research is entitled improving the students’ reading comprehension by using comic strips at SMA MUHAMMADIYAH-7 Serbelawan. It is concerned with the problem: Do comic strips effective to improve students’ reading comprehension through narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH-7 Serbelawan?. To answer the research problem, some theories are used: Kligner, Vaughn & Boardman (2007), Patel and Jain (2008), Snow (2002), Arikunto(2009,2010). Reading is a basic skill which should be studied are speaking, listening, reading and writing and a process of looking at series of written symbols and getting meaning from them. Comic strips are some series of drawings that tell a story and drawings interrelated panels to display brief humor or form a narrative often serialized with text in balloons and captions and with the comic strips can improve reading comprehension of students in English. This research is designed into quantitative research by following the experimental design of the control class and experimental class. The population is 216 students and the sample is taken by using cluster sampling technique so that the sample is 72 students. The research subject is XI IPA1 as experimental class and XI IPA2 as control class of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH-7 Serbelawan. The research instrument is multiple choices. The data analysis is started by scoring the students’ answer sheet, tabulating students’ pre-test and post-test scores, calculating the standard deviation pre-test and post-test scores. Based on the data analysis, it was found before the treatment of using comic strips, the value pre-test was 1904, and mean (average) was 52,88 in post-test get value was 2132 and mean (average) was 59,22 and the standard deviation pre-test was 10,20 and post-test was 10,01. get value pre-test was 1972 and mean (average) was 54,78 in post-test value was 3004 and mean (average) was 83,45 and the standard deviation pre-test was 6,91 and post-test was 6,93. Using comic strips is effective in improving student's reading comprehension through narrative text at the eleventh grade of SMA MUHAMMADIYAH-7 Serbelawan. The t-table value is on the amount sample (n) 72 subtracted 2 then the number of samples will be 70 which the value of t-table was 1,99. Then, the result was df(degree of freedom) =70. So, the t-test result was than 5,73> 4,22 >1,99. It can be concluded that the result of the experimental class more of a control class result than the researcher was accepted

Abstract

Writing is a difficult skill to master which is why exercise is regularly needed. The objective of this study is to know the usage of the running dictation method improves the students’ writing descriptive text. This experimental research was carried out in MTs Mesra Pematangsiantar in the academic year of 2020/2021. The research design of this study is classroom action research with a quantitative approach. The population of this study is all students in grade eight at junior high school, they are 212 students were divided into six classes. And as a sample of this study consist of 30% of the population were VIII-1 as the experimental group and VIII-2 as the control group. Each group consists of 35 students. The experimental group was treated by usage the Running Dictation Method, while the control group was treated by using Direct Instruction. The finding of this research is the score pre-test in the control group is 1740 where the mean is 49,71 and in the experimental group 1542 where the mean is 44,05. The mean score of difference in the control group is 15,77 and the t-test is 4,86 The standard deviation of the data in the control group is 11,01 and the effect size in teaching writing descriptive text in the control group is 1,43 It means that the student's ability is low. The students’ scores post-test in the control group is 2292 where the mean is 65,48 and in the experimental group are 3023 where the mean is 86,37 The mean score of difference in the experimental group is 42,32 and the t-test for the experimental group is 5,88. The standard deviation of the data in the experimental group is 14,41 and the effect size in the experimental group is 2,93. It means that the student's ability is high. The data analysis shows the following findings: (1) Usage Running Dictation Method is more effective than Direct Instruction in teaching writing, (2) students with high creativity have better writing ability than those having low creativity, (3) there is an interaction between usage running dictation method and teamwork between students in teaching writing
