Abstract

In case of recent global and social changes, academic fields under language and communication pay their interests in various forms of translation, for instance, official text. Translating official text very often meets a gap, that is, inappropriate meanings in the target text. Therefore, the aims of the study are to identify the stylistic approaches that contribute to the translation of the ST into the TT in terms of stylistic qualified translation and to identify the translation accepted by the native speakers of TT. Equivalence in meaning which is a central meaning-focused in the translation work has not been done well by the translator. The farther its equivalence is the farther the gap is. The gap, however, leads to a misunderstanding of the text. Misunderstanding of the text will either spoil the ideas or loosen the information of the source text. Word Formation Variation (WFV) 19 data (14.61 %), and Lexical Choice Variation (LCV) 28 data (21.53%).

The analysis revealed that the lecturer employed both display and refential questions to invite students’ speaking and engagement in the classroom. Further, referential questions is the the most frequent type of questions that occured in the classroom during the teaching and learning process. Abstract

This paper aims to discuss how the female body has been an object for male sexual pleasure in patriarchal culture. Female body is considered as the focus of the male gaze. This research uses a feminist theory by Laura Mulvey that focuses on sexual objectification of women. Data analysis was performed through qualitative descriptive techniques by interpreting the data found in Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë and Layar Terkembang by Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana. This paper aims to expose how smart, independent, and strong women still cannot break free from the male gaze. Women see themselves through the eyes of the men. Consciously and unconsciously, women do not only shape their physical appearance but also their ideology based on the male gaze Despite the fact that these novels were written at different times and places, Brontë and Alisjahbana raised the same theme about women empowerment through the main female characters. The result of this study shows that both authors have failed to fully create strong and independent female characters since both of the characters were still confined by the male gaze.

Abstract

Numerous pupils are still unable to convey their thoughts and ideas in order to think more critically about an issue. As a result, individuals require another method of learning for the purpose of enhancing their capabilities. Problem Based Learning is a learning style in which students are required to solve real-world situations. Using a problem-based learning method, this study aims to explain the increasing in students' understanding of fantasy story texts. The study population consisted of 29 students from class VII Bilingual B SMP Al-Azhar Medan. The examination was carried out randomly using a random sampling inspection procedure. This study adopted a quasi-experimental design with one-group pretest and one-group posttest. The pretest is carried out before the problem-based learning model is applied. The results of the pretest will be evaluated as a benchmark for building values and developing arrangements through problem-based learning. The post-test is given after the learning has been completed. The assignment-based written test serves as research instruments. The data was assessed by describing the pre and post test results. The results showed that students achieved an average score of 90.79% in the complete KKM 88 category after using a problem-based learning model with fantasy story text.
