Abstract

In principle, the purpose of this paper is to determine the background of the application of character education and the concept of character education. By using a descriptive method of conceptual analysis of the notion of character education and the implementation of the character education model in Madrsah Ibtidaiyah. So far, the world of education in Indonesia is considered to have been less successful in bringing the nation's generation to be individuals with character and dignity. This is among the main reasons for the implementation of character education for all levels of education, from primary to tertiary education. Character education is a learning process by familiarizing children to think and behave and helping individuals to live and work together as families, communities and nations, as well as helping others to make responsible decisions. Conceptually, the character education models include: monolithic models, integrated models in all fields of study, models outside of teaching and combined models. Meanwhile, the implementation of character education can be done through self-development programs, integrated in subjects and extracurricular activities or school culture.

Abstract

Online learning was carried out by teachers during the pandemic, one of which was at Madrasah Ibtidayah. This study aims to determine the learning activities and material taught at MI As-Salam in Madiun district during the learning period at home. The data were collected by observing, interviewing and documenting in the fourth grade group, totaling 30 students. Based on the analysis of the data from the case study results, it can be concluded that thematic learning is in a poor category because the activities carried out by students are more work on assignments, while other subjects such as PJOK have quite good activities because they are done in practice and use learning media in providing material. Learning with assignments is influenced by the unpreparedness of the teacher in providing learning tools and the teacher's target of completing learning in the theme according to time, so that learning activities are not optimal.

The purpose of this study was to determine the use of smartphones for elementary students in online learning. This study used a quantitative approach to survey methods and selected a random sample of 124 respondents who lived in urban areas, elementary school students in grades 3-6 and had given answers to a questionnaire given in the form of google form. The research instrument was adapted from several literatures. The instrument is made in 10 question items. The study was analyzed with quantitative statistical descriptions using SPSS version 24. The results found that 31 students had smartphones and 94 students used smartphones belonging to their parents, siblings and other people in online learning. The time spent studying is between 5-6 hours. Elementary students use smartphones in the "good" category to study, do and collect assignments, a tool to explore electronic and digital learning resources, are able to discuss with peers and all feel satisfied using smartphones in online learning process activities.
