Abstract

Abstract

Grouper fish has a fairly high economic value, especially in Asiancountries, namely Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and China. High marketdemand. On aquaculture, is one important component of fish feed that plays animportant role in the cultivation. Application of probiotics in aquaculture fish feedhas not been done yet in the Fisheries sector. The research was conducted inOctober 2008, Grouper is used as the intestines and stomach samples were takenas a source of probiotics, whereas pathogenic bacteria obtained from thecollection of marine microbiology laboratory of Faculty of Fisheries and MarineRiau University. From the isolation of bacterial strains found 11 strains that havethe potential as probiotics, then proceed to the molecular test by using rDNA16 s.Which is obtained two strains of probiotic bacteria Bacillus cereus and the speciesof bacteria Strenotrophomonas maltophilia. The test results found that theantagonist Bacillus cereus isolates to inhibit the growth of pathogenic bacteriaAeromonas sp and two species of Vibrio sp. While the bacteriaStrenotrophomonas maltophilia showed no antagonism against pathogens.

Abstract

Coral reef ecosystem management in Regional Marine Conservation Area(RMCA) Bintan Timur is still a sectoral and not based on the consideration ofmulti-sectoral and multi-dimensional, so that it can cause environmental damageand social problems. The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze the index andsustainability status of coral reef management in RMCA Bintan Timur, and (2) toanalyze the key factors for sustainable management of coral reef ecosystems.Sustainability analysis conducted by the method of Multi Dimensional Scaling(MDS) approach with Rap-Insus COREMAG techniques (Rapid Appraisal-IndexSustainability of Coral Reef Management). Analysis of key factors ofsustainability management performed a prospective analysis of the sensitivityfactors (leverage factor) of the MDS and the factors from the analysis ofstakeholders' needs. The results showed that the status of sustainability of coralreef management in RMCA Bintan Timur was quite sustainable with amultidimensional index of 55.02. There were ten key factors that influence to thesustainability, namely the condition of coral reefs, protected area, the publicrevenue, tourism employment, human resource availability, government policies, coordination among stakeholders, community compliance, environmental legalcounseling, and surveillance infrastructure.

Abstract

A study on relative growth of Ompok sp obtained from the Kampar andSiak Rivers has been conducted on April to June 2011. This study aims tounderstand the similarity and differences of the fish that inhabit those rivers,Kampar River with good water quality and Siak River that with poor waterquality. There were 84 fishes from the Kampar River (in the Teratak Buluhvillage) and 31 fishes from the Siak River (in the Tapung village) were capturedin this study. The meristical characteristics were studied and the morphologicalcharacteristics were analyzed to understand the relative growth of the fish. Resultsshown that there were no difference in the meristical and morphologicalcharacteristics of the fishes obtained from both sampling areas and its indicate thatthe fishes sampled were belonged to a single species. Data also shown that almostall of fish’s body morphometrical characteristics grow isometrically to total lengthand it means that the fish was not showing any morphological changes as theygrow. However, in the wegth-length relationship, the b values of the fishes fromboth sampling area was less than 3 and its indicate that increasing in fish bodyweight was slower than the increment of fish total length. Based on data obtained,it can be concluded that there was no difference in relative growth pattern of fishliving in the Kampar and Siak Rivers.
