Abstract

Peat soils have the poor water quality, due to its low pH, wich ranges between 3-5, reddish-brown color of the water and minerals and contains very few ground-state nutrient-poor ponds. Household waste can not be used. This study was conducted in Faculty of Fisheries and marine Sciences University of Riau. The results shows that the grade of NPK was very significant effectively on zooplankton abudnance and the species of zooplankton were found from all the treatments consisted of for classes, namely Protozoa, Rotatoria, Crustacea and Insecta. Types of zooplankton derived from protozoa class consists of 4 types namely Coccomonas sp, Euglena sp, Ochromonas sp and Pleodarina sp, whereas Rotatoria class consists of two types of Brachionus angularia and Keratella cochlearis, types of classes crustacea consists of 3 types namely Cyclops sp, Moina sp, and Daphnia sp. The first population peak abundance in all treatments at 12th day with the total abundance in each treatmen of P0 (1,947 ind/l), P1 to (4,623 ind/l), P2 to (9,490 ind/l), P3 (6,327 ind/l). While the second peaks abundance population in all treatments occurred 26 day total abudance in each treatments is P0 (3,772 ind/l), P1 (6,813 ind/l), P2 (13,505 ind/l), P3 (11,193 ind/l). Abstract

Increasing human activity in various sectors will contribute a pressure on mangrove ecosystems and cause of decreasing to mangrove species and it’s area. The inventory study and patterns of natural regeneration of mangrove seedling especially true man-grove in Northern Indonesia had been conducted in September 2015. It aimed to record the biodiversity in Indonesia and to know the shape of its distribution pattern. Collecting data of mangrove vegetation condition was done by transect line and plot. The line transect was drawn from the reference point (the outer mangrove stand) with the direction perpendicular to the coastline to the mainland and made plots according to the category. The results showed that mangrove vegetation in northern Indonesia found 4 species of natural seedlings, Lumnitzera littorea, Bruguiera cylindrica, Rhi-zophora stylosa and Xylocarpus moluccensis, those belonging to 3 families (Combretaceae, Rhizophoraceae and Meliaceae), in Station 1 dominated by seedlings B. cylindrica (62 individuals) and Station 2 dominated by X. moluccensis seedlings (8 individuals). Then the result of Morisita Index calculation showed that the distribution pattern of L. littorea, B. cylindrica and R. stylosa seedlings is classified regularly, while the distribution pattern of X. moluccensis seedling is clumped.

Abstract

The aim of a research were to investigate the effectiveness of garlic extractmixed with feed given 30 days in encharging common carps after challen with againstAeromonas hydrophila with density of 106 cell/ml. This research conducted by usingcomplete random design with dose addition of garlic extract to feed were controlpositive, control negative, P1 (2,5%), P2 (5%), and P3 (10%). In order to fine out theactive component of garlic extraction methode was adopted using 70% ethanol. Theextracted filtrates were separated using the spectrophotometrical chromatrographymethod (GC-MS) and thin-layered chromatography. Identification of the maincomponents found in the ethanol extract of garlic revealed 13 components but the onethat served as antimicrobial was C6H10S2 CAS disulphide di 2-propenyl(CAS)/(Diallyldisulfide) with and area of 16,95%. Beside the result of thin layeredchromatography showed that garlic extact contained sapononin which is harmful toaquatic animals. Percentage of survival rate P3 (10%) after infected after withAeromonas hydrophila was different compare witn control positive. The highsurvival shown on P3 (10%) concentration with 70%, P1 60%, control negative 60%and P2 30%. Fourteen days after injection the cut cause by Aeromonas hydrophilaclose and the fish recuperated as shown by their lively movement.

Abstract

In the Siak River, Riau, the water quality in the downstream area is relatively bad due to pollutant originated from several sources such as industrial and domestic wastes. The low quality water may negatively affects the growth of fish and it is reflected in the growth pattern in the otolith of fish living in that river. To understand the growth pattern in the otolith of Pristolepis grooti (Anabantidae)living in that river, a study has been conducted. Totally 25 fishes were captured from the downstream of the Siak River. The otolith were then removed and processed following Windarti (2007) and investigated under a binocular microscope to study the growth ring pattern in the otolith. The number of dark growth ring was counted. Results shown that 2 to 5 dark growth rings, around 0.086 mm thick were present in the otolith of the fish. The presence of the dark growth rings in the otolith indicated that the growth of P. grooti in the downstream of the Siak River was hampered and this fact also suggested that the water quality in the downstream of the Siak River is not sufficient to support the life P. grooti in that area.

Abstract

A laboratory scaled study aims to understand the ability of several fish speciesin reducing the amount of organic materials accumulated around floating cage fishculture has been conducted in the Fishery and Marine Science Faculty, RiauUniversity, Pekanbaru from August to December 2008. Fingerlings (15-20 cm SL) ofNile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) were caged (6 fishes/ cage) and each cage was keptin the 25 liter aquarium. Outside the cages, other fishes namely common carp(Cyprinus carpio), Nile tilapia (O. niloticus ) and Catfish (Clarias batracus) werereared, 3 fishes/ aquarium. As controls, Nile tilapia were kept in the cages and therewas no fish out side the floating cage. Fishes were feed on fish pellet, 40% of cagedfish body weight, once/ day. Feed remains that are flown to the outside of the cage.Sediment accumulated was removed once/week for a 3 weeks period, then they werefiltered and dried in the 40o oven and was weighed. The fishes, however, were weightin the 1st day and by the end of the experiment and the feed conversion rate wascalculated. Results indicated that the sediment in the nile-carp aquarium is 1,67 gram; thenile-nile is 1.79 gram, the nile-catfish is 1.54 gram and the control is 2.28 gram. While the FCR of the nile-carp is 1.47; nile-nile is 1.04; nile-catfish is 1.05 andcontrol is 3.16. So, it can be concluded that the presence of fishes outside the cagereduce the amount of sediment accumulated around the cage and increase theefficiency of feed given to the fish.
