Abstract

This research was conducted in May - August 2018 in the waters of Sasak Beach Pasaman Barat, West Sumatra Province. The purpose of this research was to determine the relative sedimentation velocity, the type of benthic foraminifera, and the distribution pattern of benthic foraminifera in the waters of Sasak Beach Pasaman Barat, West Sumatra. The method used in this research is purposive sampling method which is divided into 3 stations. The highest relative sedimentation velocity is found at Station I with a value of 28.0%, the relative sedimentation velocity is highest at station II with a value of 35.0%, and at station III 20.0%. The most commonly found foraminifera species are Ammonia beccarii, Quinqueloculina disparilis and Quinqueloculina laviegata. Benthic foraminifera from 3 observation stations can be divided into 6 groups. Group I was characterized by Ammonia beccarii (Line Form B), Ammonia beccarii (Line Form C), Textularia aglutinans and Trochammina inflate. Group II is characterized by Ammonia beccarii (Line Form A, B and C), Nonionoides gratelouupi, Quinqueloculina laviegata, and Spiroloculina laviegata. Group III is characterized by Ammonia beccarii (Line Form A, B and C), Spiroloculina laviegata, and Triloculina oblonga. Group IV is characterized by Ammonia beccarii (Line Form A, B and C), Nonionoides gratelouupi, Quinqueloculina disparilis, and Miliolina subrotunda. Group V is characterized by Ammonia beccarii (Line Form A, B and C), Quinqueloculina laevigata and Spiroloculina laevigata. Abstract

This research was conducted in December 2013 located in the Topang Island Waters. Samples were analyzed in the Sea Chemical Laboratory of Marine Science Department of Fisheries and Marine Science Faculty of Riau University. The purpose of this study is to deter-mine the distribution patterns of suspended solids at the low tide to the high tide and the high tide to the low tide in the Topang Island Waters. This study used a survey method which con-sists of 22 stations, one station with 2 sampling was at low tide to the high tide and high tide to the low tide. The pattern of distribution of suspended solids in the Topang Island Waters is uneven, when low tide to the high tide the highest TSS content is in the southeast, south, southwest and northeast of Topang Island Waters and when the high tide to the low tide, the highest TSS content is in the southeast, south and northeast of Topang Island Waters. The highest content of TSS is 70-100 mg/l which is quite high and less precise as source of fishing activities, then the lowest TSS content is 30-60 mg/l were classified as normal and decent enough for fishing activities.

Abstract

Abstract

Ammonia that excreted from fish metabolic activity is a serious problem inintensive aquaculture production systems because it would build-up to toxic levelin fish tanks. Therefore, recirculating system with filtration process becomes animportant component to maintain water quality in order to be an appropriatecondition for fish production. The objective of this experiment was to measuregrowth and viability fishes with three kinds of filter media, i.e., zeolith, mussel(Anodonta woodiana) as detrivorus-converter, and lettuce (Lactuca sativa) asphototrophic-converter, and one unit of the experiment as a control (without filtermedium). The result of the experiments showed fish performance of that systemsuch as survival rate, food conversion ratio, and biomass growth rate, were higherthan the others, i.e., 88 %, 1.43, and 1.18 kgs, respectively. However, fish specificgrowth rate of the treatment (3.16 %) had no significant difference (P > 0.05)compared to other treatments

Abstract

Riau Province has many lakes and reservoirs, one of which is the Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Reservoir, Sustainability of the Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Reservoir Unstable water continuity, drought during the dry season and flooding during the rainy season have caused this power plant to be not optimal, one of the ways that can done to overcome complications in certain areas. Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Reservoir Water is that by using the analysis of the Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Reservoir we can arrange steps in managing the maintenance of the Koto Panjang Hydroelectric Reservoir. Sustainability analysis conducted using the RAP-catchment area application on three dimensions, namely ecology, economics and social, the results of the analysis that have been carried out on the ecological dimension address an index of 52.31 which is classified as quite sustainable in the social dimension category 41.98 which is classified as less sustainable. To improve the index of sustainability in the management of water areas, several management directives are needed, namely reforestation or greening of open land related to rivers and conducting training in environmentally friendly agriculture to provide and support the protection of farming communities and communities related to fire, develop the potential of natural resources such as tourist attractions as alternative livelihoods to increase community income and increase socialization and encourage people in need in hydropower reservoir catchment areas.

Abstract

The research was aimed to find the optimal level of tricainemethanesulfonate (MS-222) and density of clown loach (Botia macracanthus) intransportation. These triplicate factorial experiments consisted of the three levelsof MS-222 (0, 25, and 50 ppm) and three densities of fish (25, 50 and 75 fish L-1).The fingerlings of clown loach (3.0-3.5 cm) have been transported in 1 liter ofwater for 18 hours. The results showed that the levels of MS-222, density of fishesand interaction of the both factors were different significantly (P<0.05) to theinduction time, sedative duration, and survival live of clown loach. Theinteraction level of MS-222 50 ppm with density 25 fishes L-1 was not significant(P>0.05) with 50 fishes L-1. Level of MS-222 50 ppm and density 50 fishes L-1were the best for survival live in transportation of clown loach.
