Abstract

The purpose of this research paper is to determine the dominant criteria of Information System (IS) success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta and to establish relationship among those criteria using interpretive structural modeling (ISM). A small portion of those SMEs have started using information system. However, they face several barriers to successfully implement the information system. Therefore, it is necessary to ensure the success of information system implementation. But, no study has been done regarding the measurement IS success specific to handcraft SMEs in Yogyakarta. This research involved interview-based surveys and ISM approach to determine the dominant criteria of IS success of SMEs in Yogyakarta context. In total, 16 SMEs were involved as research objects in this research. In this research, four cluster of SME have been identified and the modified IS Success model for each cluster was developed accordingly.  The modified model for each cluster has 14, 20, 16 and 30 criteria respectively. Through ISM, a relationship model among the criteria for each model was also obtained. It was concluded that “ease of use”, “ease of learning”, and “data accuracy” are significant criteria of IS Success model in SMEs in Yogyakarta. These criteria are considered as the dominant criteria to implement information system successfully. In addition, the desired results of successful implementation is represented by “improved outcomes”.

Abstract

The Corona Virus 2019 or Covid-19 outbreak has caused a global panic that is fatal. Various sectors have been affected. The coffee industry sector has also been affected by Covid-19. Losing customer loyalty is a threat to coffee industry entrepreneurs. This study has the purpose of measuring Customer Loyalty and a way to prevent the coffee shops from losing customers during the Covid-19 pandemic. This purpose is divided into two-stage. The first stage is to identify what factors affect customer loyalty and the relationship before the pandemic. The second stage is to test these factors during the Covid-19 pandemic in the context of the coffee shop business area. The second stage will be done for future study purposes. To support the first stage, the author divided it into two steps. First: summarize the factors that affect customer loyalty in the coffee shop business area. The second: is to build a relationship of the factors that affected customer loyalty based on the summarized factor in the first step. The results of this study show that customer satisfaction and trust have a direct effect on customer loyalty. Moreover, these factors can be a suitable mediation for others factors influencing loyalty. Besides that, service quality and price fairness can affected both mediation factors. Moreover, every existing factor also has an important role because these factors influence and support each other in creating Customer Loyalty.

Abstract

Consumer satisfaction is an important factor in the ongoing business process. Companies must be able to meet consumer demands and considers customers’ concerns on price. In a supplier and customer relationship, a given discount will affect the order size. Besides, in the current developing industry, environmental factors must be considered without disturbing the business. Recently, researchers and practitioners develop environmentally-friendly industries so that the environment will be well managed and not polluted. For example, carbon emissions can be managed by optimizing the production operation and product distribution. This paper presents a study on the relationship between discount on the economic order quantity model and the total carbon emissions. This research develops a procurement model by considering an all-unit discount system and carbon emission tax. The aim is to determine the optimal order that minimizes the total cost.

Abstract

All the theories about market and marketing research, customer relationship management, and business in general, believe that customer satisfaction is one of the main factors for company financial success. However, a survey on 64 studies shows a wide variation of the correlation between customer satisfaction and financial performance. The correlation coefficients are varied from -0.256 to 0.899. This study applies a meta-analysis on those 64 studies’ findings to find the true correlation between customer satisfaction and financial performance. The analysis clusters the 64 studies based on year of research, business category observed, and geographical area of research. The result shows that the correlation between customer satisfaction and financial performance is relatively high (0.525) before 1990, becomes confusing (not-significantly correlated) in 1991-2000, increases (0.626) in 2001-2010, and decreases (0.595) after 2011. Based on business category, the two variables are not significantly correlated both in manufacturing industries and in service industries. The two variables are significantly correlated according to the studies conducted in Europe region (0.566) and Asia-Africa (0.657), but could not to be proven significantly correlated in USA region. The insights from the meta-analysis findings are: (1) the customer satisfaction role is change by time as well as the changes of industry environment, so that research on customer satisfaction will always be beneficial; (2) in individualist society like USA, further researches on customer behavior and culture are required to find more clear explanation about the role of customer satisfaction as well as other financial success factors, on the company performance.

Abstract

In a previous article, the packaging optimization literature illustrated how to optimize the packaging parameters using the classical Taguchi approach. Notwithstanding, it is compelling to bridge the gap created in the article for further advancement. Thus, this paper contributes to expanding scholarship regarding the area. The paper targets the Taguchi methodical optimization literature in which several scores of research across engineering disciplines and beyond have been undertaken. At present, evaluation using the Taguchi method often stops at the determination of the optimal settings from the response table through a chain of steps from factor-level selection, orthogonal array choice, signal-to-noise determination, and response table evaluation to emerge the optimal parameters. There is no information on the economic aspects of the parameters, yet processes are expected to be sustainable while economic factors play a central role. A novel idea of the present work is introduced where the interest rate and inflationary factor with levels are used to determine the economic strength of each parameter through ranking. Data was collected from a brewery process, and literature data concerning cold arc welding parametric evaluation was used. The outcome demonstrates the workability of the method in the packaging plant and cold arc welding process. The work is useful for packaging managers and welding engineers for planning purposes.

Abstract

Packaging systems constitute substantially to product cost, its safety, and optimization. Unfortunately, no previous optimization studies have examined the packaging system in a bottling process plant for the unique, developing country environment. Consequently, the Taguchi method is applied to optimize a process plant's packaging system in a Nigerian plant's real-life situation. Optimal combinations of packaging system parameters that minimize product waste are created. An L4 (23) Taguchi orthogonal array was selected to analyze the data, and signal-to-noise ratios were computed for each experiment's run. Since the aim was to minimize beer waste, the ‘the-smaller-the-better’ signal-to-noise ratio was chosen in the analysis. S/N ratio plots revealed the optimum settings to obtain minimal product waste, namely, A2, B1, and C2 from the main effects plot for signal-to-noise ratios. A two-way ANOVA was performed on the significant factors to determine their percentage contributions to the response (product waste). Through Taguchi's innovative approach, the feasibility of optimizing the packaging process parameters was demonstrated and validated.

Abstract

The public is increasingly aware of the importance of exercise for the elderly because exercise is an option to reduce complaints due to setbacks and improve the health of the elderly. In fact the implementation in the field is often wrong as in Banjar Benaya which implements routine exercises only once a week with a duration less than 30 minutes, does not pay attention to nutritional needs, does not use sports clothing, and displays that are not clear. The measurement of elderly physical fitness is still relatively low. Based on these problems, improvements were made to the application of ergonomic elderly gymnastics due to improve elderly’s physical fitness and increase the bone mass.  This study used a treatment by subject design conducted in April 2017-August 2018. The target population was all elderly in Denpasar and the affordable population was determined by multistage random sampling then selected Banjaya Benaya Peguyangan Village with a sample of 20 people who met the inclusion criteria. The data collection were physical fitness and bone mass. The difference in treatment effects were analyzed using a Paired Sample t-Test with α = 0.05 for data with normal distribution and Wilcoxon test, α = 0.05 for data with abnormal distribution. Data showed that there were differences in physical fitness improvement in Period I and Period II after 8 weeks of gymnastics at 43.43% with very bad categories being bad, the difference in increase in whole body bone mass was 16.76% and leg bone mass 68.67%. Analysis of Paired Sample-t-Test physical fitness data and Wilcoxon test for bone mass data in Period I and Period II after gymnastics for 8 weeks, found that there was a significant difference (p <0.05). It can be concluded that ergonomic elderly gym can significantly improve physical fitness and increase bone mass of the elderly. It is recommended that the elderly continue to exercise with a duration of 30-45 minutes, the frequency of 3 times a week to maintain elderly’s physical fitness.

Abstract

This paper presents an economic production quantity (EPQ) model for deteriorating items with a certain percentage of defective products due to an imperfect process. The defective products are sold to a secondary market at a discount price. Due to environmental concern and carbon tax regulation, the manufacturer incorporates the control of carbon emission cost into its decision model. Carbon emission cost is a function of electricity consumption during production and inventory storage; it is also dependent on the carbon tax rate. Since the production process results in work-in-process inventory and carbon emission, the study tries to optimize the throughput time. We also examine the effect of carbon tax regulation on the potential emission reduction from the developed deteriorating item model. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis have been provided, and the result confirms the influence of carbon tax regulation in reducing carbon emission.

Abstract

In this paper, a hybrid control chart-Taguchi method (CCTM) is proposed to solve the control and optimization problem regarding safety conformity parameters for a bottling process plant (BPP). The CCTM fuses the conservative control charts, which monitor the safety conformity parameters to promote and maintain the uppermost grade of employees’ physical, social and mental well-being. The control chart result is placed in the Taguchi methodical phase of factor-level determination to cultivate an orthogonal array. Then, the inventive rational ability of the control chart is used to correct the process and hence, enhances the Taguchi method. Consequently, the CCTM can be intensely robust and statistically precise. The proposed CCTM was successfully used to solve the safety conformity problem involving the control and parametric optimization in a bottling process plant. The field data uncovers the ability of the proposed CCTM to control and optimize the bottling process plant parameters. Moreover, it showcases the results as better than an enormously stronger than the conventional Taguchi method.
