Abstract

Phronesis or applied wisdom is a specifically Christian quality, yet is not exclusive to Christian tradition and engagement. Phronesis is articulated with specific stylistics, such as situational decisionmaking or customary interaction within human existence. In this article, philosophical perspectives are generated from an interface of phronesis and life—volition, responsibility, freedom and common sense. Exploration of these perspectives will be used to articulate the character of phronesis and its expression within human purpose, vocation and identity. Engagement with phronesis here articulates epistemological and hermeneutical challenges that can preface specifically Christian expression that contributes to human flourishing through generosity and veracity.

Abstract

Everything finite is finally contingent, yet contingency is durability within nature and more so, creativity within human existence. The thesis of this article, which is cast within Hegel’s relationship between necessity and contingency, is this: within aspirational fidelity and volitional integrity, loss and gain in human existence are not symmetrical; loss and gain are asymmetrical and so in principle, redemptive. Out of demise, by retrospective creativity, gain can surpass loss—a tacit christological perspective. Inspirited by human aspiration, creative possibilities are generated; movement, growth and change occur within a dialectical movement of moments exhibiting contradiction, mediation and novel development.

Abstract

Abstract When God pronounced the promise of salvation by the seed to the fallen man, little did Adam and Eve probably knew the impact of that the instigation of divine war would have been. This war surely determining the course of life of human race in the world and also it reveals the subsequent of God’s revelation of His salvation plan for humankind. The book of Genesis itself contains the extended family line of the seed throughout history. We argue that the Book of Revelation chapter 12 contains the summary of journey of seed’s family line and things yet to come where culmination of divine war will be consummated. Theology will not merely stand in creating hypothesis based on the literature analyses, theology must give a possible thesis toward certainty to which literature (apocalypse) foreshadows toward reality in history to come.

Abstract

The Holy Spirit is part of the discourse that develops in the communities of Christ’s disciples. The Holy Spirit becomes a discourse, because it is closely related to social praxis in social interactions and experiences, both in the community of believers and the general public. This study tries to understand how the function of the discourse about the “Holy Spirit, The Giver of Strength and Affirmation’ in the text of Ephesians 3:16-17. Functionally, there are at least two things, among others: first, the Holy Spirit as the Giver of Strength and Confirmation of Faith; and second, the Holy Spirit as the Giver of Strength and Affirmation in maintaining a substantial identity. Both functions can be performed, when the Holy Spirit is in the inner man. These conditions will help humans to have a complete self-awareness of the mystery of Christ. The mystery of Christ which is understood only using reason will lead to division, but if assisted by the Holy Spirit who is in the heart, the mystery of Christ will lead to salvation and peace.

Abstract

The term evangelism broadly has the meaning of proclaiming the good news to others, but it is specifically interpreted as an effort to convey the gospel to others and often causes fear to the news bearers because they already have their respective beliefs. It is very different from what should happen as in the Bible in that they preach the news of joy without fear because it is a fact and joy follows them. Jesus' disciples convey it lightly because it is a grace that they can proclaim their happiness and joy based on what they experience. Meanwhile, in the context of Indonesia, evangelism becomes a place for debate and rubs against the spirit of brotherhood and tolerance. So how exactly should this evangelism be carried out in the Indonesian context theologically with regard to apologetics, conversion and transformation.
