Abstract

English reading comprehension is the most crucial language abilities in colleges where English is learned as a second language. A vigorous and powerful reading ability is certainly crucial in primary studies for students to accomplish in advanced education. However, the method in which they are instructed through lecture and paper pencil’s method were less relevant and effective in 21st Century. Students become passive, demotivated, bored, and feeling shy by the conventional teaching and learning. The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness of problem-based learning (PBL) on student’s English reading comprehension for mastering the contents and vocabulary acquisition. The study used a quantitative data where using an experimental pre-posttest design and the independent t-test and one-way ANOVA has been performed to test the hypothesis of the studies. The result indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the experimental and control groups for student’s reading comprehension for mastering the content and vocabulary acquisition using PBL. The results showed that the students who received PBL learning approached achieved higher performance outcome than student who is not received the PBL approach

Abstract

This study investigated the science lecturers’ perceived use of Google classroom for instruction as well as the influence of teaching experience and experience in the use of the google classroom for instruction. The study hires a survey method with the use of the online questionnaire. All lecturers in the faculty of science made up the population for the study. The findings established that science lecturers have good seeming on the use of google classroom for instruction. Also, lecturers’ years of experience influenced their use of Google classroom for instruction. The study concluded that lecturers perceived use of google classroom encouraged them to use it in their instructional activities. It was however recommended that Google Classroom also has to constantly upgrade to suit user needs so as not to be replaced with newer, better, faster, more efficient alternatives.

Abstract

The study was conducted to determine the views of farmers in the implementation of the rice tariffication policy. This qualitative study was conducted with 15 participants from the three barangays of the municipality of Norala South Cotabato, the Philippines using purposive sampling. On the awareness of farmers on rice tariffication law (RTL), it was found out that most of the farmers are aware of the implementation of RTL particularly through their access to social media such as radio and televisions, Facebook, and other online sources. On the views of farmers on RTL, it was found out that the majority of the farmers believe that their economic situations are being affected such as inflation, loss of profit, and failure of the harvest. On the issues encountered in the implementation of RTL, the following are found out: (1) continuous inflation rate in commodities and other basic needs, (2) high pricing fertilizer and pesticides, and (3) decrease in the yields of crop production.

Abstract

CNC technology has become a requirement in the industrial world without complying with educational, pedagogical and private ratings. Manufacturers of this type of machine are trying to conform with the marketing requirements in terms of quality, price and quantity, so the CNC machine can meet the requirements and has acquired a leading position. The study and design of the three-axis CNC machine are based on the Fusion 360 software for the design and PROTEUS software for simulation to perfect our device.

Abstract

Programming (including coding, data science, and artificial intelligence) is one of the important top skills for chemical engineering undergraduate students, especially in the current era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0). Despite its importance, there is almost no dedicated course for programming in the traditional chemical engineering curriculum in many universities. In this article, a future chemical engineering curriculum that includes a programming course is discussed and its integration into traditional courses is also proposed. This study proposes to use three software i.e., Microsoft Excel, GAMS, and Python to make students comfortable to programming so they can learn further by themselves. A representative case of classic logistics problem is presented as a case study. It is expected that this teaching strategy and the proposed example will improve students’ cognition in programming.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the potholes encountered by the students and their feedbacks in implementing printed modules in National High School in the Philippines. Mixed qualitative and quantitative were used, utilizing an adoptive modified five-point Likert’s Scale survey questionnaire to 100 students. The finding reveals significant relationships between the academic grades of the students and the potholes in the printed module in mathematics in terms of distribution and retrieval/submission and the assessment of feedbacks indicates no or negligible relationship. 31% commented that they are having problems with math in the modular setup from low motivation, caused by math anxiety resulting in poor understanding on how to apply and perform mathematical operations. 34% suggested that the graphics be made clear because they encountered cloudy graphics and the number was too small for being read. The potholes in the printed module cannot affect the academic performance of the respondents. Results of this study may serve as a basis for individuals who are involved in teaching mathematics during a pandemic for improving the quality of the printed module for a better learning experience from home.

Abstract

Scheduling can be seen in many areas such as chemical processing, logistic, supply chain, and class. In this study, two different cases of scheduling problems are addressed which are batch reactor process scheduling and University Class Scheduling (UCS) problems. The aim for the batch reactor process scheduling is to minimize the total discrepancies between the size of the assigned reactors and their corresponding assigned capacities or reactor sizes. The approach taken into consideration includes some constraints such as desired products, the production capacities, and the reactor capacities. Meanwhile, for the UCS problem, the concern is on the number of needed courses assign to certain classrooms while at the same time noting the constraints such as the size of the classroom and the number students. The UCS problem also seeks to optimize the distribution of courses remarkably to classrooms refers to the ratio of classroom capacity to course enrolment. These issues will be resolved using Integer Linear Programming (ILP) in the form of Excel-based software. The ILP model tool for both scheduling problems, therefore, is developed and resolved using the Excel solver utilizing Visual Basic Applications (VBA) and Macro.

Abstract

This research aims to design a game app design that can help increase children's interest in learning English. The research method used descriptive qualitative by looking at early childhood learning during this pandemic, especially learning English, with additional data from literature studies. The system development method uses the waterfall method consisting of five stages: Requirement Analysis, Design, Implementation, Testing, Maintenance, and object approach method with tools such as use case, activity diagram, and interface design to produce an orderly system. The design of the game application is named GUTHEWORDS. It is expected to help increase children's interest in learning English to guess vocabulary such as animal names and numbers in English to help improve teaching success by making the teaching method fun and interesting for children. Through the implementation of learning through this game, it is expected to make it easier for children to learn to read, remember and hear some vocabulary in English well, also expected to explore the potential, creativity, and interest of children in learning English.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to explain in detail the perspectives of teachers and the challenges that the stakeholders of the E-learning process may face in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. The respondents of this study were 5 teachers at the ACCESS campus of the Sultan Kudarat State University (SKSU), the Philippines. This study used a semi-structured interview method to obtain the necessary data which was analyzed using thematic analysis. The study revealed that teachers recognized this new mode of learning as a more comfortable and convenient way to use; however, assessing student learning and interacting with them was in general difficult. Thus, operational and psychological challenges are experienced by teachers in adapting to the new learning model. The results of the analysis revealed that SKSU administrators must provide broad assistance to all teachers, especially regarding the challenges they face at this time, besides that, teachers and students must be trained and ready to use sophisticated e-learning technology.
