Abstract

Internationalisation of higher education definition has evolved and so are the approaches in its implementation. The internationalisation of higher education is executed either one of the two approaches, the activity or the process approach, including in the higher education institutions in Malaysia. By giving the attention on one approach alone could contribute to issues in the less focused approach and hinder institutions from receiving maximum benefit from internationalisation. Thus, this study explores the nature of internationalisation approaches in the experiences of meso-level professionals and individuals in the micro level of the institution, specifically at the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). The qualitative case study is adopted to gain adequate information from the internationalisation actors of the institution. The information is collected through face-to-face interviews, participatory observations, and documents analysis. Literature found that most of the higher education institutions practiced the activity approach in the implementation of internationalisation at the majority of higher education institutions. This should also happen to the internationalisation practices at UTHM where the execution is driven by the meso-level professionals of the institution. However, internationalisation experts have long promoted internationalisation practices to be in a dynamic activity – process fashion. Result of this study offers the policymakers, internationalisation key actors and stakeholders, valuable information on the internationalisation approaches to serve as a guideline in measuring the internationalisation practices, strategies development and quality improvement in the higher education system in Malaysia.

Abstract

The Reynolds Number Test Bench is a self-contained device that uses water to allow students to study laminar, turbulent flow regimes, and transition conditions. The vertical test bench does not allow a large number of students to see the experiment clearly, it only takes two people in front of the device to block the view of the rest of the students and this causes a problem. The idea of this work is to build a horizontal test bed that allows students to see the experience clearly and easily. The results obtained from our horizontal device are the same as that of the vertical bench.

Abstract

This study explored the lived experiences of athletes of South Cotabato in the new normal. This study was done: (1) to determine the challenges of the athletes, (2) to highlight the positive responses in the situation, (3) to introduce a new framework to cope with the new normal. This study is viewed in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic which is best applied as athletes transition to the new normal. It employed a qualitative research design relatively with the phenomenological approach which includes multiple online in-depth interviews from five participants. The result showed that there is a decrease in the level of physical activities engaged of which is rooted in the number of challenges that athletes are experiencing. Furthermore, significant findings explained the ways of how athletes can cope up, with mobile games as a stress reliever, increased attention in home-based training, increased value in academics, strengthened family relationships, and rest. We also developed a sustainability program that assists coaches, trainers, and parents in monitoring the athletes' well-being during the quarantine period. The study concluded that it has resulted in some negative effects on the athletes’ bodies and in the development of their skills. However, there have been emergent opportunities for positive takeaways, as well. This study provides a framework for athletes and coaches to maintain optimal performance in the new normal.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of virtual reality as a substitute for the pre-school students' field trip activity during the learning from the home period. This research used a literature study as the research methodology. We conducted this study by observing and analyzing several journals on the use of Virtual Reality as a medium of learning. The various results of the journal analysis were used to determine whether virtual reality could be a substitute for the pre-school students’ field trip learning activity in this learning from the home period. By using Virtual Reality, the students would still be able to participate in field trips while still pays attention to the steps of conducting a field trip, such as (1) planning and preparation period; (2) the execution of the event, and; (3) the return time. Besides being considered as an effective tool to increase students’ learning interest and improve their learning outcomes, virtual reality can also be a substitute for the real field trips during this Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the students do not need to leave the house to participate in field trips. Hopefully, the result of this research would be able to provide the readers with new insights and knowledge on the utilization of virtual reality as a substitute for the pre-school students’ real field trip activity especially in this learning from the home period.
