Abstract

Fallow System Improvement (FSI) is one of Agroforestry Technology that use for reducing periode time of fallow. The Obyective of the research is to improve soil fertility in the land fallow after sand mining using FSI by application gamal leaf as a mulch.Research method that was used is Experimental research with unit area of 10 m x 10 m plots for application of mulch. Soil analysis was done before and after mulch application in order to know the contain of nutrient of the soil.The study indicates that the land restoration through application mulch of Gliricidiasepium leaf( FSI) can improve organic material, P,K, and C content of the soil in the period time of 4 months.Therefore, the land can be planted 10 months after sand mining. It is less than the usual fallow is more than 2 years especially in the land after sand mining. Key Words: Fallow, Agroforestry Technology, Mulch, Gliricidia sepium

Abstract

Prospect of investment in the forestry sector is still enough attractive for employers. The problem encountered when investors use the forests for development oil palm plantation without regard to the functions of forests. These conditions will damage wildlife habitat of important flora, and also adverse various aspects of human life. To reduce the rate of forest damage, the government has issued Presidential Instruction No. 10/2011 which contain of moratorium on forest use. This policy will reduce GDP, but economic values of wildlife and important flora as well as environmental, can be improved.Key Words : fungtion of forest, oil palm plantation, economic value

Abstract

Wood preservation is important to increase the service life of species woods which have low natural durability. The absorption of preservative in wood is effected by anatomy, physical and chemical properties of wood and kind of preservative. The purpose of this research is to know effect of wood species, i.e : Paraserianthes falcataria, Shorea spp., Cocos nucifera and Toona sureni, and kind of preservative namely borax (Na2B4O7.5H2O) and terusi (CuSO4) on the absorption, retention and penetration of preservative. Results of this research showed that wood species investigated gived significant effect on the absorption and retention. The highest absorption was resulted on Paraserianthes falcataria and the highest retention was resulted on Cocos nucifera wood. Borax gived higher absorption, retention and penetration than terusi. Paraserianthes falcataria wood tend to easier to absorb preservative than three wood others. Key Words : Preservative, Absorption, Retention, Penetration

Abstract

The research is aim to determine of influence diameter and percentage heartwood to physical and mechanical of teakwood properties. This research uses wood diameter factor, which comprises 3 levels of 15-21 cm, 22-28 cm and 29-35 cm and the percentage of heartwood that comprises 3 levels of 25-45%, 45-65% and 65-85%. These factors were then designed a randomized complete with factorial pattern. Observed parameters are the physical properties of wood (moisture content, specific gravity, and dimensional changes) and the mechanical properties of wood (static bending strength, compression strength parallel to grain, compression strength perpendicular to grain and shear strength). The result of the research shows that diameters factor affect significantly on air dry moisture content, longitudinal shrinkage from air dry to oven dry condition, Modulus of Elasticity (MOE) and compression strength parallel to grain. The percentage of heartwood factor affects very significantly on moisture content, tangential swelling from air dry to wet condition and Modulus of Elasticity. The interaction factor between diameters and percentage of heartwood also affects very significantly on specific gravity and shear strength. The rate of air dry moisture content is 13.88%; specific gravity is 0.65; MOE is 108.13 (1000kg/cm2); MOR is 1243.83 kg/cm2; compression strength parallel to grain is 569.41 kg/cm2; compression strength perpendicular to grain is 122.80 kg/cm2; and shear strength is 79,1602 kg/cm2. The result of the research show also that wood has the highest diameters is not always the best of quality (physical and mechanical properties) but, the highest percentage of heartwood to trend has the better teakwood quality specially physical properties. Abstract

Technology of cement board developed so chips industrial disposal of wood specially in the form of changeable lignoselulosa become material which is good for human prosperity. The waste upon which cement board will obtain double advantage this lessen the expense peculiarly and obtain substance with the higher economic value. The aim of the research is to know the influence of treatment of waste of particle and proportion of cement adhesive to nature of cement board which is made of by a industrial disposal wood. Factorial experiment arranged in a completely randomized design, with the test continue the Tukey. Factor used in this research is consisted of by the treatment of particle waste ( without treatment, cold soaking and hot soaking) and proportion of cement ( 150%, 200% and 250% from substance weight). Parameter measured were : water content, specific grafity, modulus of repture, modulus of elasticity and thick reduction effect of pressure 3 kg / cm 2 . Result of this research showed that waste of particle and proportion of cement gived very real influence to physical and mechanical properties of cement board. The physical and mechanical properties of cement board from industrial disposal, namely specific grafity, modulus of rapture and modulus of elasticity were suitable with DIN 1101 standard. Abstract

Aim of this research is to know activity of tree fractions (diethyl ether, ethyl acetate and residue) pelanjau wood extracts (Pentaspadon motleyi Hook.f) against Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren. Method of the research was anti termites test with parameter termites mortality and samples weight lost. Research result show highest mortality from ethyl acetate, diethyl ether and residue fractions with 100% mortality in concentration ≥5%, ≥7,5% and 10%, respectively. Sample weight lost from ethyl acetate, diethyl ether and residue fractions was 9,91-3,89%; 34,37-13,50% and 35,25-18,21%, respectively. Abstract

The problem which has to be solved when using nyamplung oil (Calophyllum inophyllum) as an alternative fuel is the excessive content of free fatty acid in the oil. One way of reducing the free fatty acid in the oil is by esterification and tranesterification process. Hence, the research is conducted to identify the effect of temperature and methanol addition on the esterification and transesterification processes on the nature of nyampung oil and to assess the composing component of nyamplung oil. The research was conducted in the laboratory of Forest Yield Technology and central laboratorium of INSTIPER. The steps included extraction, deguming, esterification I, esterification II and transesterification with the temperature var iation of 60° C, 80° C, and 100° C and the mol comparison of nyamplung oil of 4:1, 5:1 and 6:1, and the examined parameters were water content, viscosity, acid level, soap level, free fatty acid content and iod level. The result indicated that the temperature treatment and methanol addition significantly affected the nature of nyamplung oil after the tranesterification. The analysis of nyamplung oil nature after the esterification I and esterification II indicated that the water contents were 0.38 and 0.21 %, the densities were 0.9630 and 0.9325 g/ml, the viscosities were 110 and 74.5 cP, the acid levels were 58.6893 and 31, 4359 KOH/g. the contents of free fatty acid were 29.5016 and 15.8017, the soaping levels were 192, 4127 dan 180, 2165 mg KOH/g, the iod levels were 68.7259 and 65. 9123 mg/g with the appearance of esterification I of dark and aqueous and esterification 11 reddish and aqueous. the nature of nyamplung oil after the transesterification process was that the water content was 0.1501%, the density was 0.8832 Wml, the viscosity was 51.1296 eP, the acid level was 9.8935 KOH/g, the free fatty acid content was 5.0168 %, the soaping level was 172.9321 KOH/g, the iold level was iod 77.4985 mg/g, with the appearance of yellow and aqueous. Abstract

List profile is a mineral board product that more and more interested people use it. One of its advantage is the cheap cost, quick availability and more resistant against damaging organism attacks. From economy’s point list profile with adhesive plaster and filler rofing more expensive, so it required another type of adhesive which is stronger but cheaper cost. This research has the objection to find out the filler type and content of gips with low cost. The design of this research is complete random design continued by Tukey test. The factors were the filler type using “mendong” and rofing, and adhesive contents of 720 grams, 780 grams, and 840 grams to observed the water content, density, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rapture and its adhesive strength. The result indicated an interaction between the filler type and its content both influenced the water content and density. The average of water content, density, modulus of elasticity, modulus of rapture and adhesive strength were 17,6787-20,0729 %, 0,9575 – 1,1489 g/cm3 , 3172,7619 – 4831,6183 kg/cm2 , 25,8452 – 30,8413 kg/cm2 , and 1,9006 – 3,4287 kg/cm2 respectively. Abstract

Mangrove is known as type of ecosystem has such of multifunction. what more has strategic function service, it is able to support and stabilice strong coastal and land ecosystem. Therefore, in every single handling,especially in the effort on rehabilitation,it should focus on the needs of all stake holders involving in the use of mangrove.The application of silvofishery model in rehabilitation purpose is assumed to fullfil the multifunction criteria,so it has been applied and developed by most of the community.But on the other side it is worried that the less of peoples optimally support the achievement of rehabilitation purpose.Under this condition, modification of silvofishery should be planned without obeying the need of people and other institutions to the use of mangrove. Abstract

The purpose of the study to determine the dosage of phosphate rock fertilizer to enhance growth Combretocarpus rotundatus Miq with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi inoculated. Seedbed experiment using factorial completely randomized design with three replications. Observations were made on seedling age perepat 14 weeks after weaning, including: height, diameter, leaf number, and for shoot dry weight, P uptake of plants after harvest. Experimental tests on C.rotundatus Miq and phosphat fertilizer inoculated with arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to prove that the dose of phosphate rock 100 ppm was the best increase C.rotundatus Miq growth in the nursery.
