Abstract

The widespread use of smartphones to play games and the lack of use as a medium for learning mathematics is the reason for the need for the development of smartphone-based edutainment learning media. The purpose of this research is to design and develop interactive edutainment learning applications of mobile mathematics games to help junior high school students to learn line and angles material. This mobile game-based application incorporates graphic design, background music, and animation, and a major structural element in game development to attract students. This research belongs to the type of Research and Development (R&D) and the model used is the ADDIE model that is carried out in a systematic stage. The results of the study show that the developed game meets the valid aspects, where the level of expert approval of the design functionality has an average value of 4,49 out of 5, meanwhile, the assessment of the material has an average score of 4,17 out of 5 and the user states that the game meets the practical aspect with an average score of  3,75 out of 5. It is hoped that this game-based learning application called "CORNER" for mobile devices can act as an additional tool for improving students' conceptual understanding and interest to learn through the scientific approach used.

Abstract

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, face-to-face instruction in the field of education has been replaced by online learning. As a result, to meet the learning goals, teachers must be innovative and creative while delivering online learning. Student Achievement with Edmodo is one alternate online learning choice. This analysis aims to explain the effects of the introduction of Edmodo-supported Student Achievement, as well as student reactions to this learning, and to provide a single learning method that is successful and can aid teaching and learning experiences for high school mathematics content during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study employs qualitative analysis approaches. The subjects of this research were five students from Tasikmalaya City's State Senior High School. Based on the outcomes of a few experiments, it was determined that the learning experience was enjoyable and aided students' comprehension of the Trigonometry content. Students are pleased with the learning experience provided, and they believe they have made improvements as a result of their participation in the learning. According to the effects of the impact size estimation, the implementation of the Student Achievement learning model is very accurate. Then, for general student assessment, Student Achievement learning with Edmodo is beneficial to introduce in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, so that it can be used as a substitute in online learning.

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the suitability of mathematics textbooks for eighth-grade with Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2019 Mathematics Framework. This research uses a qualitative research method with a descriptive approach and content analysis techniques. The data of this research are the eighth-grade mathematics textbook. In the textbook analysis, the researcher used three textbooks, namely Penerbit Erlangga, Yudhistira, and the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud). The analysis carried out was the analysis of the content domain and knowledge domain based on the TIMSS 2019 Mathematics Framework. The content domain contains numbers, algebra, geometry, and data, and probability. While the knowledge domain contains aspects of understanding, application, and reasoning. In the Penerbit Erlangga book, there are only 2 out of 4 pieces of content contained in TIMSS, while the cognitive domain is 2 out of 3 aspects. Yudhistira book 2 of 4 content contained in TIMSS, while the cognitive domain is 1 of 3 aspects. Kemendikbud’s book is 1 of 4 content domains in TIMSS, while the cognitive domain is 1 of 3 aspects. Therefore the three eighth-grade mathematics textbooks as a whole are still not suitable for the TIMSS 2019 Mathematics Framework. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan kecocokan buku ajar matematika kelas VIII dengan Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2019 Mathematics Framework. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif dan teknik analisis isi. Data yang dianalisis adalah buku ajar matematika kelas VIII. Dalam analisis buku ajar, peneliti menggunakan tiga buku ajar yaitu terbitan Erlangga, Yudhistira, dan Kementerian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan (Kemendikbud). Analisis dilakukan terhadap content domain dan knowledge domain berdasarkan TIMSS 2019 Mathematics Framework. Content domain terdiri dari bilangan, aljabar, geometri, dan data dan peluang. Sedangkan knowledge domain terdiri dari aspek pemahaman, penerapan dan penalaran. Dalam buku Erlangga, terdapat dua dari 4 content domain, sedangkan cognitive domain hanya 2 dari 3 aspek. Buku Yudhistira memuat 2 dari 4 content domain dan hnaya 1 dari 3 aspek cognitive domain. Pada buku Kemendikbud hanya terdapat 1 dari 4 content domain dan hanya 1 dari 3 aspek cognitive domain. Jadi, tiga buku ajar matematika kelas VIII tersebut secara keseluruhan belum sesuai dengan TIMSS 2019 Mathematics Framework.

Abstract

Abstract. In traditional teaching, many teachers often ignore the process of students' knowledge exploration, devote themselves to instilling knowledge to students in a short time, and then adopt the sea of questions tactics. Such teaching is only limited to the stage of telling students what "variance" is and how to use it, and ignores the birth process and meaning of "variance". The purpose of this research is to see the differences in classes that use dynamic mathematics software and traditional classes. The method in this research is descriptive qualitative. The sample in this study was seventh-grade students at one of the junior high schools in China. The content of this research design is the use of dynamic mathematics technology, focusing on the understanding of the concept of efficiency-improving variance, and the form innovation of the course design is design and record before and after optimization-evaluation and analysis before and after optimization. This article mainly takes the concept of teaching variance topic as an example to try to explore the teaching design of optimizing the important and difficult points of mathematics. This study shows that Hawgent dynamic mathematics software makes students get deep learning and makes teaching and learning activities more active. Then the teacher can continue to use Hawgent dynamic mathematics software to make students more active. Abstrak. Dalam pengajaran tradisional, banyak guru sering mengabaikan proses eksplorasi pengetahuan siswa, fokus menanamkan pengetahuan kepada siswa dalam waktu singkat, dan kemudian memberi banyak soal untuk diselesaikan. Pengajaran semacam itu hanya sebatas tahap memberi tahu siswa apa itu "varians" dan bagaimana menggunakannya, serta mengabaikan proses penemuan konsep dan makna "varians". Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat perbedaan kelas yang menggunakan dynamic mathematics software dan kelas tradisional. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas tujuh di salah satu sekolah menengah pertama di China. Desain penelitian ini adalah pemanfaatan teknologi dynamic mathematics software, menitikberatkan pada pemahaman konsep varians, dan inovasi bentuk rancangan penelitian rekam sebelum dan sesudah optimalisasi-evaluasi dan analisis sebelum dan sesudah optimasi. Artikel ini terutama mengambil konsep pengajaran pada bahasan varians sebagai contoh untuk mencoba mengeksplorasi desain pengajaran dalam mengoptimalkan poin-poin matematika yang penting dan sulit. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dynamic mathematics software Hawgent membuat siswa mendapatkan pembelajaran yang mendalam dan membuat kegiatan belajar mengajar menjadi lebih aktif. Oleh karena itu, guru dapat menggunakan dynamic mathematics software Hawgent untuk membuat siswa lebih aktif.

Abstract

Abstrak. This study aims to analyze students' mathematical connections in terms of their initial ability to material opportunities. This type of research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method with the design of this research is the Two Group Pretest-posttest. The population of this study was all students of semester VI Physics Tadris UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi, totaling 42 people. The sampling technique used was saturated sampling with research instruments in the form of test descriptions. Data were analyzed using a paired t-test test. From the calculation results, the value - ttable ≤ tcount ≤ + ttable is -2.02 ≤ 7.84 ≥ + 2.02, then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted at the significance level α = 0.05. So it can be stated that there are differences in student learning outcomes with high initial mathematical abilities compared to low initial mathematical abilities. The results of the research correlation test (test phi (Φ)), where the calculation results obtained rtabel value ≤ rcount, namely 0.305 ≤ 0.873 then H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted at the significance level α = 0.05. So that it can be revealed that the initial mathematical ability has a significant effect on student learning outcomes on probability. Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis koneksi matematis mahasiswa dilihat dari kemampuan awal terhadap terhadap materi peluang. Jenis penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experimental dengan desain penelitian ini adalah the Two Group Pretest-posttest. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh mahasiswa semester VI Tadris Fisika UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin Jambi yang berjumlah 42 Orang. Teknik sampling yang digunakan adalah sampling jenuh dengan Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji ttest. Dari hasil perhitungan diperoleh nilai -ttabel ≤ thitung ≤ + ttabel yaitu -2,02 ≤ 7,84 ≥ + 2,02, maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05. Sehingga dapat dinyatakan bahwa terdapat perbedaan hasil belajar mahasiswa kemampuan awal matematik tinggi dibanding dengan keamampuan awal matematik rendah. Hasil penelitian dilanjutkan uji koreslasi (Uji phi (Φ)), dimana dari hasil perhitungan diperoleh nilai rtabel ≤ rhitung yaitu 0,305 ≤ 0,873 maka H0 ditolak dan Ha diterima pada taraf signifikansi α = 0,05. Sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa kemampuan awal matematik memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap hasi belajar mahasiswa pada materi probabilitas.

Abstract

Textbooks used in schools affect the quality of mathematics learning in the country. Indonesian Ministry of Education (Kemendikbud) already lauched students’ and teachers’ textbook that are distributed nationally on 2013; however improvements are needed to revise the textbooks since there are concerns such as the difficulty level of problems contained in the textbooks. The main objective of this study is to compare non-routine problems contained in mathematics textbooks used in Indonesia and Singapore. This is a qualitative research with content analysis design. Researchers compare Singaporean and Indonesian mathematics textbook since Singapore got higher rank in mathematics based on PISA result in 2018. The topic in this study is limited to Pythagorean Theorem. The result of the research shows that Indonesia and Singapore has consecutively 22,1% and 11,3% non-routine problem. Another finding of this study was Singaporean mathematics textbook focused more on developing students’ fluency of solving problems, meanwhile Indonesian mathematics textbook focused more on students’ reasoning ability. The results and findings in this paper are expected to provide input in developing future mathematics textbooks.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the mathematical connections of junior high school students on the concepts of ratio and proportion. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data triangulation. The research participants were four junior high school students in Sukabumi. The instrument used in this study consisted of a description test of three questions that had been consulted with experts and based on considerations regarding indicators of mathematical connection ability. Based on the results of the study, it is known that the ability of students to recognize and use connections between mathematical ideas is 50%, the ability of students to connect and apply mathematical concepts with other disciplines is 50%, and the ability of students to connect and apply mathematical concepts to problems in everyday life with a percentage of 50%. The results showed that the mathematical connection ability of some junior high school students in Sukabumi on the concept of comparison was included in the poor category.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to find how the first online learning implementation in the Department of Mathematics Education in The Islamic State Institute of Bengkulu during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research was qualitative research which was conducted in July as an evaluation of the first online learning from March until July. 90 students were chosen by purposive sampling and then given an online questionnaire. The results showed that there were some mathematical courses students took in the Even Semester 2019/2020. The platforms used by lecturers while teaching Mathematics were 39.6% WhatsApp Group, 22% Google Classroom, 13.2% Cisco Webex, and 25.2 % others. Platforms that were felt effective as online learning applications were 52.7% Cisco Webex, 26.4 % WhatsApp Group, 9.9% Zoom meeting, 5.5% Google Classroom, and 5.5% others. This is felt to be effective because it does not consume a lot of data packages, has a strong signal, and can be accessed at any time (WhatsApp Group and Google Classroom). In addition, this platform can be used for live conferencing / video calls using whiteboards which are deemed effective for teaching math material (Cisco Webex). However, several obstacles were found during the implementation of online learning, namely difficulties in obtaining sufficient internet data packages; limited network; difficult assignments and assessments; less effective teaching methods; and use of multiple applications.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' mathematical communication skills in solving mathematical problems based on their self-confidence. This research was a qualitative research method with descriptive approach. This research was conducted at one of junior high school in Muaro Jambi, Jambi, Indonesia. The research subjects were six students consisting of two students with high self-confidence category, two students with medium category, and two students with low category who were selected using purposive sampling technique. This research used student self-confidence questionnaires, problem-solving tests, and interviews to confirm the level of students' mathematical communication skills. The data were analyzed by descriptive technique. The results showed that the subjects with high self-confidence had met all indicators of mathematical communication skills, while the subjects with medium self-confidence had met three of four indicators of mathematical communication skills, and the subjects with low self-confidence only fulfill one of four indicators of mathematical communication skills.

Abstract

Teaching methods are a complex topic in mathematics education. This study aims to analyze the teaching methods of previous relevant studies and design a new lesson study on how to teach the topic of functions at the high school level in China. Lesson study focuses on the basic concepts of function and problem-solving abilities. The researcher uses the research and development method to teach the material function at the high school level. This Lesson Study is used to teach in China. The researcher explains 4 important aspects in designing a lesson study, namely the introduction or opening section, the instructional section or core section, the assessment section, and the closing section.
