Jurnal Komunikasi Islam
Jurnal Komunikasi Islam is the flagship journal, published biannually in June and December, of Islamic Communication and Broadcast Department, Dakwah and Communication Faculty, Islamic State University of Sunan Ampel (UINSA) Surabaya in collaboration with Indonesian Professional Dakwah Association (APDI). Jurnal Komunikasi Islam provides academic articles to the professional needs of both Islamic communication scholars and practitioners. The journal helps encourage in disseminating empirical and theoretical research findings, developing theory, and introducing new concepts related to Islamic oration and sermon, Islamic Journalism, mediated-dakwah and religious film, Islamic communication-related studies to its readership.

<![CDATA[Papua is the largest province in Indonesia. Indigenous people embrace animism and dynamism. Located in the central part of the island of Papua, the easternmost part of western Papua (formerly Irian Jaya). In the eastern part is the State of Papua New Guinea. Previously, the province is still join the western part of Papua, but since 2003 is divided into two provinces, the eastern part, kept the name Papua, while the western part of the name of West Papua. Jayapura as a capital city of Papua and West Papua provincial capital called Manokwari. Merauke as one of the 29 districts / cities in the governance system within the Papua Province has an own story about Islamic propagation. The existence of the Islamic community in Merauke originated from the collection of the nomads. Hailing from various parts of the archipelago of the descendants of the Muslim family. They come to Merauke in Papua to perform duties of the state, seeking employment, change or improve the lot of families on government facilities, and some are coming specifically as a preacher and religionist for the propagation of Islam]]>

<![CDATA[Currently some da'wah activists are creating da'wah content channels on Youtube and other social media. This study aims to explore the strategy of viralization of the preaching content of Ustadz Abdul Somad, Gus Miftah and Gus Nur on the Youtube channel. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and through observation and documentation techniques, the results of this study reveal that the da'wah video content created by those three Islamic preachers that are considered viral have characteristics, first, the da'wah messages contain a conflict dimension that are likely to attract the curiosity of the audience. Second, technically the da'wah video content has an interesting title, offers a novelty theme, containing humor, answers religious issues clearly, and has quality da'wah material. Third, the da'i must be credible and have a da'wah strategy that is in accordance with the mad'u's needs.]]>

<![CDATA[Religion is frequently presented as a source of conflict in a plural society on the political stage. In truth, the essence of goodness may be found in every religious teaching, including Islam. To alleviate tensions between two cultural communities, one's ability to express religiously inclusive messages to other parties is critical. This paper examines how Sjafruddin Prawiranegara interprets inclusive Islamic values both philosophically and practically. Using a qualitative approach and intercultural communication perspective, this studi has revealed that Sjafruddin intends to portray Islam as accepting and beneficial, with pleasant and appreciating contacts with individuals of the same religion or different religions.]]>

<![CDATA[Islamic proselytising (da'wah) is one of the affected-activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. The da'wah activities which are usually carried out in mosques through majlis taklim had to be stopped due to coronavirus disease, well-known as Covid-19 pandemic. This paper examines the creative da'wah efforts carried out by da'wah actors (da'i) during the pandemic period. This article argues that many da'i had undrgone Islamic preaching creatively during pandemics by utilising various digital media, through spoken (bil-lisan) and written (bil-qolam) methods, including using virtual meeting applications. The use of online applications, da'wah is able to reach wider mad'u (audience) campared to offline da'wah.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to examine the moral teachings contained in the collection of short stories (cerpen) of Idrus. By using hermeneutic analysis, this study shows that Idrus' short stories convey moral teachings regarding patriotism, nationalism, lifestyle, social criticism, and faith in Allah Swt. Specifically, these teachings encompases sincerity, fortitude fortitude where calamity is a warning and a trial from Allah swt., teachings about justice and believing in Allah as well as Muhammad is the messenger of Allah swt. Although the da'wah material conveyed through these writings was produced in accordance with the demands of the social conditions of the people at that time, namely the Japanese occupation period, it is still relevant today.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper discusses how Hanan Attaki's da'wah innovation in Bandung in the perspective of dramaturgy theory. Research questions are answered using a literature study, with a historical and sociological analysis approach to Hanan Attaki's da'wah innovations through the work of other researchers and related sources. The results of the study show that Hanan Attaki has succeeded in embracing the motorcycle gang community in Bandung which has been synonymous with brawls and fights by taking several approaches, including through conveying messages in a contemporary style that is easily accepted by young people and through the involvement of young people in making da'wah activities on social media., such as Instagram, Twitter and Youtube.]]>

<![CDATA[Taking sides in news coverage is considered as consequences of construction process of media reality. According to constructivist approach it is unlikely to avoid subjectivity within news production because of demand of traditional journalistic values such as newsworthy. This study seeks to examine the objectivity of Kompas television news coverage of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI). Using a qualitative method and constructivist approach in analysing news stories that was linked to reconstruction interviews with journalist, this study found that news stories of FPI activism broadcast by Kompas TV during the 2016-2017 periods were inseparable from subjectivity of journalists while news-making, including resulted from agenda-setting in newsroom.]]>

<![CDATA[This article attempts to discuss how the Islamic philanthropy of Darul Muhajirin orphanage in Semarang conducts da’wah bi al-hal (preaching by actual actions) towards the Muslim community living surrounding the orphanage and orphan children. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the findings point out that da’wah bi al-hal conducted by Darul Muhajirin orphanage for community development and empowerment is an attempt to take part in community development efforts through social service activity programs. Hence, the existence of Darul Muhajirin orphanage is considered a benefit to the surrounding community. In regard to the method of da’wah bi al-hal, Darul Muhajirin orphanage has proposed several ways: first, exemplary in social movements like charity. Second, exemplary in worship; third, exemplary in the manner of speaking.]]>

<![CDATA[This paper reports on textual analysis research of three news media stories published by CNN Indonesia (cnninodenesia.com) in 2019 pertaining to Islam Nusantara and politics, using a critical discourse analysis approach proposed by Teun A. Van Dijk. Findings reveal that in the political context of Islam Nusantara (Islam of the Archipelago) discourse offers solutions to prevent conflict, tragedy, and violence in the name of religion. Further, it is also found that the political situation in Indonesia, which was rife with religious issues and increased intolerance, made Islam Nusantara dragged into the political sphere. This is because Partai Kebangkitan Bangsa (The National Awakening Party/PKB) which was historically born from the womb of the Nahdlatul Ulama was one of the ruling coalition parties.]]>
