Abstract

Grammar is central to the teaching and learning of languages. It is also one of the most difficult aspects of language to teach. Teachers teach grammar by explaining the forms and rules and then drilling students on them. This results in bored and disaffected for students. Actually teacher can teach grammar through game. There is a game that can support teachers to teach grammar which called board game. This research aimed to improve students’ mastery in Basic English grammar though board games and to figure out students’ perceptions on the use of board game in teaching Basic English grammar. This research was classroom action research. The research was done in two cycles. The sample of this study were the second semester students of English Department at STKIP MuhammadiyahMuaraBungo. They were chosen through total sampling. The data were gathered by using grammar test and Interview. The data were analyzed with qualitative and quantitate analysis. The result shown that the use of board games could improve students’ mastery in Basic English Grammar. It could be seen from the students’ scores. Moreover, students gave positive responses toward the use of board games in teaching basic grammar.

Abstract

This research is a developmental research that aimed to produce CTL-based Students' Worksheets using SAKEM (Waste Packaging) in Class X High School Descriptive Text material. The instruments in this study were material and design / media assessment sheets, teacher assessment questionnaires and participant response questionnaires. The study was conducted at SMAN 11 Tebo. Product validation is carried out by material experts, design / media experts. Product testing is done by means of individual trials and small group trials. The results of the study indicated that Students' Worksheets are feasible for use by teachers and students. This can be proven by the validity and practicality of Students' Worksheets. The Students' validity Worksheets could be seen from the results of the validation of material and design / media experts with the category "very good". And also the practicality of English teachers assessment and the students response which a very positive category.

Abstract

Listening skill is considered as a major factor of language learning and teaching since it is plays an important role in communication process. However, some media to improve student’s listening skill such as audio, visual, and audio-visual had been developed since past view decades, many students and the teachers do not pay enough attention to its importance media in their classes. In this article, the researchers review some important issues concerning the use of audio-visual media namely movie to provide a starting point for developing listening skill. It starts through a brief discussion of definition listening, analyzing some problems in listening comprehension, pursued by reviewing recommended film category and the structure of movie, tips to learn English through a movies, and discussion the relationships between watching movie and listening skills. The research result from the review of literature indicated that movie is the suitable media to help teacher explain the material thoroughly and concretely. Watching movie as media in teaching and learning process allows the students to understand the language in a form of natural contexts, since they can analyze the use of the language and make connections between words and images.

Abstract

The article provides information about the implementation multimedia-based on Mind Mapping learning models among students IX students of SMP N 19 Batanghari and the improvement of their writing skill on report text through the use of this model. This research is a classroom action research which conducted in two cycles. The subject of this research is class IX students of SMP N 26 Batanghari with 33 students as participant . The object of the research is the improvement of writing skill in report text by using multimedia-based Mind Mapping. The data taken from observation, video recording and tests were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis. The results of the study show that there is an improvement of students' writing skill and learning outcomes through the multimedia-based Mind Mapping learning model. It can be seen from 2 cycles that are carried out. In the pre-cycle student success rate of 53, 60 with a low category, the first cycle of student success rates reached an average of 62.22 with a low category, in the second cycle the average student success increased significantly to 75.00.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui komunikasi instruksional dalam proses belajar mengajar guru dan anak ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) di kelas.Berdasarkan serangkaian kegiatan penelitian yang dilakukan pada Lembaga Pendidikan Prananda Bandung, komunikasi instruksional yang dilakukan oleh guru dalam proses belajar mengajar menggunakan pesan verbal berupa bahasa instruksi dan pesan nonverbal. Antara Bahasa instruksi dan pesan nonverbal keduanya saling melengkapi sehingga anak ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) dapat menerima materi pengajaran dengan baik. Pemberian pesan verbal dan nonverbal dalam proses belajar mengajar yang dilakukan guru didalam kelas memberikan perubahan dalam perilaku anak ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder), perubahan perilaku berbeda-beda pada setiap anak, hal ini disebabkan oleh kondiri anak ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) yang tidak sama, selain itu, pola asuh orang tua dirumah juga turun berperan terhadap perubahan perilaku anak. Media yang dipergunakan dalam proses belajar mengajarpun hanya media visual yang membantu anak ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) untuk mengenali materi yang disampaikan dengan mudah.

Abstract

This research aims at find out the improvement of students’ learning vocabulary by using self made song. The method of this research was classroom action research (CAR) which consisted of planing, actioning, observing and reflecting. The data of this research will be analyzed by using two methods of data analysis. Quantitative data analysis used to examine and interprete data from task and speaking test. The data taken from observation, field note and interview will be analyzed by using qualitative data analysis. Teaching vocabulary through song gave more positive effect for improving students’ motivation in learning English. The technique will gives different learning experience for the students, establishes students’ confidence, makes the students interest in English class, reduces their anxiety, and makes them more happily. It expected proved that students’ song is more effective than conventional method. By applying this song, theteacher suppose can be more creative in updating the learning in order to produce a better result in English learning achievement especially vocabulary. Besides that, song can make the teaching and learning process more fun and enjoyable.

Abstract

Permasalahan dalam penelitian ini adalah apakah penerapan metode diskusi dapat meningkatan hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Muara Bungo pada mata pelajaran PKn pokok bahasan keadaulatan rakyat. Adapun tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Muara Bungo dengan menerapkan metode diskusi pada mata pelajaran PKn. Untuk mengetahui peningkatan hasil belajar PKn siswa kelas VIII maka yang harus diakukan adalah observasi awal, untuk mengetahui kemampuan awal yang dimiliki siswa sebelum digunakan metode diskusi dalam proses pembelajaran. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang menghasilkan data-data deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis atau lisan dari orang-orang dan prilaku yang diamati. Sesuai dengan tujuan dalam penelitian ini maka metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif. Untuk lebih mengakuratkan hasil yang diperoleh, maka setelah akhir setiap tindakan, peneliti melakukan evaluasi terhadap hal-hal yang telah dilaksanakan. Data yang dikumpulkan dalam penelitian ini adalah berupa data yang diperoleh data hasil observasi kegiatan guru dan kegiatan siswa. Hasil tingkat kemampuan siswa bekerjasama dalam kelompok pada saat belajar Kewarganegaraan dengan menggunakan metode diskusi pada kelas VIII1 adalah terkatagori “Sangat Baik” dengan persentase sebesar 93,43%, dan Hasil tingkat kemampuan siswa bekerjasama dalam kelompok pada saat belajar Kewarganegaraan dengan menggunakan metode diskusi pada kelas VIII2 adalah terkatagori “Sangat Baik” dengan persentase sebesar 93,43%,. Dengan demikian dapat diketahui bahwa penerapan metode diskusi dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar PKn siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Muara Bungo.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship of class participation (X1) and motivation (X2) on English learning achievement (Y) of Senior High School number 12 Padang. The population of this research was students of Senior High School number 12 Padang with total population was 894 students. Sample was selected by stratified random sampling technique with total sample was 100 students. The data were collected by using observation and questionnaire. The data were analysis by using quantitative descriptive technique with SPSS computer program version 20. Based on result of data analysis it can be found that first there is positive correlation between X1 with Y with high category (0,793) and significance value less than 0,05 (0,000 <0,05 ), secondly there is a positive correlation between X1 and Y high category (0,783) and significance value less than 0,05 (0,000 <0,05), third there is positive correlation between X1 and X2 on Y with rcount is 0,849 and rtable is 0,163 at significance level 5% and n = 100. It means the higher participation and motivation make learning achievement better. Thus, participation and motivation should be a good consideration in leaning.

Abstract

The research was conducted to analyze first, students comprehension in listening to the short story. Second, Students Comprehension in writing the short story by the eleventh grade of MAN Lubuk Alung. Third, to relate the comprehension of listening and writing by the eleventh grade of MAN Lubuk Alung. The theory of this research were the competency in listening, writing and analyzing the short story. The type of this research was quantitative research with analitycal descriptive method and used a correlational research schema . The population and sample of this research was the eleventh grades of MAN Lubuk Alung. The sample of this research is 30 students. The data collected by objective test and writing test. The objective test used to collect the data about the comprehension of listening a short story. Writing test used to collect the data about comprehension of writing short story. From this research, it can be concluded that first, the comprehension of writing short story by eleventh grade of MAN Lubuk Alung was Significant (87,96), second the comprehension of listening short story by eleventh grade of MAN Lubuk Alung was very good. Third, the relation between listening and writing skill was significant by freedom degree n-1 (30-1+29) and p=0,95. It means, comprehension h0 ignored and h1 accepted, by the result of tcalculate bigger than ttable 7,18>7,10.

Abstract

The problem of this study is “Is there any significant difference on writing achievement between the eighth grade students of SMP N 26 Palembang who are taught by using scramble sentence method and those who are not?”. This research applied quantitative method namely quasi experimental design and used simple random sampling. The writer used writing rubric to collect data and analyzed the result of test by using paired sample t-test and independent simple t-test. Total number of population was 303 students which is VIII.3 as control group and VIII.I, as experimental group. Based on the result of this study, the mean score in post test score were 73.44 for control group and 76.09 for experimental group. The result of the independent sample t-test shows the value of sig. (2-tailed) was 0.01 < 0.05 at the level of significant 0.05. While, the value of t-obtained was 2.415 higher than the critical value of t-table was 1.665 with degree of freedom 62, can be concluded that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted.
